French transport company Alstom has secured a contract worth €135 million (approximately ₹1,321 crore) from Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) for Phase II of the city's metro project. PTI has reported that the deal includes the design, manufacture, supply, testing, and commissioning of 96 Metropolis metro cars Under the contract, Alstom will supply 32 three-car trainsets. The company will also provide 15 years of maintenance services after the warranty period. This will include cleaning, obsolescence management, and upkeep of plant and machinery at the depot.The metro trains will be manufactured at Alstom's facility in Sri City, Andhra Pradesh, aligning with the Make in India and Atmanirbhar Bharat initiatives. Each trainset can carry around 900 passengers and is designed for multiple unit operations. They will include evacuation features for train-to-train and train-to-track scenarios.The 119-km Phase II network will have three corridors, covering more than 76 km of elevated track and 43 km underground.Olivier Loison, Managing Director, Alstom India, said, 'This new contract strengthens our association with CMRL in helping modernise Chennai's urban rail mobility landscape.'Alstom is currently producing 108 driverless Metropolis cars for another section of Phase II, connecting Poonamallee Bypass to Light House through 30 stations — 18 elevated and 12 underground.Since its first contract with CMRL in 2010, Alstom has delivered 208 metro cars for Phase I of the project.

BHUBANESWAR: Amid the push for Atmanirbhar Bharat and Make-in-India in view of the changing geopolitical scenario, the state government has amended Odisha General Financial Rules (OGFR), 2023 enabling restrictions on procurement from certain countries. The amendments, notified by the Finance department on Thursday, authorised the state to bar procurement from bidders, who are either based in or have commercial arrangements with entities from countries or classes of countries that may pose a risk to the defence of the country or matters related to national security. The newly substituted rule-203 stated that no procurement shall be made in violation of such restrictions. Although the amendment does not name any country, officials said, it is a preemptive measure in response to the current global environment and security-related concerns raised at the national level. This change of rules came as part of a broader overhaul of the OGFR, aimed at increasing transparency, efficiency, and compliance in government procurement. The revised rules also sought to streamline procurement methods by formally categorising them into goods, services (consultancy and non-consultancy) and works. The amended rules differentiated between the categories of products, including guidance for IT projects, which will now be procured as consultancy services. 'Procurement of IT projects should normally be carried out as procurement of consultancy services, as the outcomes or deliverables vary from one service provider to another,' it read.

EPACK Prefab inaugurates sandwich panel making facility at Mambattu
Tirupati: EPACK Prefab Technologies Limited has inaugurated a state-of-the-art sandwich panel manufacturing facility at Mambattu, expanding its production footprint in southern India. The new plant is built on a 2,83,660 sq ft land parcel with a built-up area of 1,49,151 sq ft, designed to meet the surging demand for energy-efficient sandwich panels. The facility enhances EPACK's production capacity by adding 8 lakh sqm/annum taking the company's total sandwich panel capacity to 13.10 lakh sqm/annum. The fully automated facility manufactures high-performance PUR/PIR and Rockwool panels, catering to sectors like cold storage, food processing, and industrial infrastructure. Designed for minimal manual intervention, the plant supports sustainable, energy-efficient production and is compliant with environmental regulations. 'This plant marks a key milestone in our journey toward building greener, smarter infrastructure for India. It strengthens our presence in the southern market and supports national missions like Make in India and Aatmanirbhar Bharat,' said Sanjay Singhania, MD & CEO, EPACK Prefab.
