NYS Fair responds: Why Chubby Checker will not return this year
SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — The New York State Fair has explained their reasoning as to why Chubby Checker was not invited back to 'Twist' and 'Shimmy' this year.
Chubby's manager confirmed to NewsChannel 9 just days ago — following his induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame — that he was not invited back for the 2025 Fair.
'Unfortunately, Chubby Checker a fan favorite and staple at The New York State Fair over the years will NOT 'twist again, like he did last summer' at this year's New York State Fair. Though fans, friends and local media were hoping to see him at his annual show this summer, Fair representatives told his manager that Chubby was not invited back,' said Shelly Field, Checker's locally based manager.
The Fair responded with, 'The New York State Fair congratulates Chubby Checker on his historic induction to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, which is a true testament to the impact he has had on American music history. The Fair considers Chubby to be an integral part of the Fair family and has been honored to host him several times, bringing his timeless classics to fairgoers of all ages.'
But, after hearing from many fairgoers, the Fair used the interest 'in seeing an expanded content lineup with new musical acts' to diversify the performances for this year.
'We wish we could bring in all of our favorites every year, but are excited to introduce some new musical acts to the Fairgrounds this summer,' continued the Fair.
2024 marked Chubby's third consecutive appearance at the Fair, but he had been invited to 'Twist' in Central New York for six performances.

Rock band Heart offering reward for instruments stolen from New Jersey venue
ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. — Two irreplaceable instruments owned by members of the rock band Heart were stolen from a venue in New Jersey last weekend as the group prepared to launch a nationwide tour, and the musicians are now offering a reward for information leading to their return. The band was set to kick off the An Evening With Heart tour at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Atlantic City on Saturday, and its gear had been set up there the day prior to the show. Among the items stolen were a custom-built, purple sparkle baritone Telecaster guitar with a hand-painted headstock made for band member Nancy Wilson, and a vintage 1966 Gibson EM-50 mandolin that band member Paul Moak has played for over 25 years. 'These instruments are more than just tools of our trade — they're extensions of our musical souls,' Nancy Wilson said in a statement issued by the group. 'We're heartbroken, and we're asking for their safe return— no questions asked. Their value to us is immeasurable.' Heart is led by Wilson and her sister, Ann, who have made music together since the '70s and have had hits like 'Magic Man,' 'Crazy on You' and 'Alone.' The band had set up at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Atlantic City on May 30, the day before the first show on their latest US jaunt but were 'devastated' to discover that two instruments had been taken from under their noses. A one-of-a-kind baritone Telecaster, featuring an intricately painted headstock custom-made for Nancy Wilson, and a vintage 1966 Gibson EM-50 mandolin that has been with the band for 25 years were both stolen. 'These instruments are more than just tools of our trade — they're extensions of our musical souls,' says Nancy Wilson. 'The baritone Tele was made uniquely for me, and Paul [Moak]'s mandolin has been with him for decades. We're heartbroken, and we're asking for their safe return—no questions asked.
