Rita Ora reveals how she felt losing out on Kylie Minogue's hit Padam Padam
Rita Ora has no regrets about losing Padam Padam to Kylie Minogue.
Lostboy - who wrote the 2023 track - originally thought about giving the song to Rita before it became Kylie's comeback hit, but the 34-year-old pop star has no hard feelings about missing out on the song.
She's quoted by the Daily Star newspaper's Wired column as saying: "I've always grown up with this saying, 'What's for you won't pass you'. And that's always how I've lived my life.
"And it's Kylie Minogue - she's the queen of the world, in my opinion. So, of course, Kylie's going to get it and kill it and do a great job.
"And in the pop industry, that happens every day to a lot of big artists - you just don't know about it."
Rita also pointed out that she and Lostboy are "very close friends", adding that he "lives in [her] studio" in Los Angeles, California.
And Kylie made up for the loss by inviting the Let You Love Me hitmaker to support her on her recent US tour.
She said: "Kylie has been such an incredible inspiration to me for my whole life. And also having her as a supporter - I couldn't ask for anything more.
"I haven't toured like that for about three years and opening up for her was the best way to get back into live shows.
"Her audience are just so accepting and they really showed up for me. I just never wanted it to end. I'm just so grateful for that tour."
Meanwhile, Rita recently released her new single Heat, which will be part of her next album - the currently unannounced follow-up to 2023's You and I.
Reflecting on the song, she said: "The last album was about finding love and feeling super inspired by my relationship [with husband Taika Waititi].
"Whereas this one is just really inspired by having fun and being a sexy b****.
"I wanted to go back to how I started in my early career of feeling really comfortable in my skin and celebrating being a woman."

The main doctor charged in connection with the drug overdose of "Friends" star Matthew Perry is expected to enter a guilty plea in the coming weeks, the US Justice Department said Monday. Salvador Plasencia "has agreed to plead guilty to four counts of distribution of ketamine, which carries a statutory maximum sentence of 40 years in federal prison," the department said in a statement. The second doctor in the case, Mark Chavez, pleaded guilty last October to conspiring to distribute ketamine in the weeks before the actor was found dead in the hot tub of his Los Angeles home in 2023. In total, Plasencia distributed 20 vials of ketamine over a roughly two-week period in autumn 2023, the document said. Perry had been taking ketamine as part of supervised therapy for depression. But prosecutors say that before his death he became addicted to the substance, which also has psychedelic properties and is a popular party drug. - Dark struggle - Five people have been charged over Perry's death. Jasveen Sangha, the alleged "Ketamine Queen" who supplied drugs to high-end clients and celebrities, is charged with selling Perry the dose that killed him. She has pleaded not guilty. Shaggy's songs came from 'higher power'
Shaggy believes his songs have been "bestowed" on him by God. The It Wasn't Me hitmaker insisted he isn't responsible for writing any of his hit tracks and he "honestly believes" the catchy tunes came to him as a way to help other people. He told the Daily Star Sunday newspaper: "People say I wrote It Wasn't Me and my other hits but I didn't write any of them. They were bestowed on me from a higher power. "If it had come from me I would write one every week. I honestly believe these songs were given to me to help change peoples' lives. I'm just here to act as a service until I'm no longer needed." Shaggy - whose real name is Orville Burrell - is proud to be celebrating over 30 years in the music industry, particulary after he was written off as a one-hit wonder following the success of Oh Carolina in 1993. He said: "It has been quite a ride. "There's not many artists who get to have success over three decades of music. "I remember after Oh Carolina they called me the one hit wonder. "Then I did Boombastic and I was the two hit wonder and then Summertime and I was the three hit wonder. "At that point no one had seen a dancehall artist have follow-up hits. "I was the first to have multiple follow ups quickly after." The 56-year-old star previously credited taking breaks from music to do other things, such as The Little Mermaid Live! back in 2019, for his longevity because they have stopped him from "overstaying [his] welcome" in his chart career. He told E! News: "I've been lucky to have gone through this multiple times. I was lucky to go through that roller coaster ride of the fanning-out, the craziness. Everything for me is strategic. You go to your aunt's house and she's happy to see you. She's making your bed, she's cooking for you. You stay there for two weeks, [then] she's like, 'Alright, you're cooking for yourself, you need to take out the garbage.' You don't want to overstay your welcome. That's part of what's known as longevity, and this is why I'm here. "I'll take myself away from the scene, do some theatre. And then we'll come back in when the time is right. You just kind of know where you are, you look at the market—the market is always changing. The game is always changing. You always look at where your audience is."
