No rainfall deficit in Delhi as light showers to continue
New Delhi: Regular rain activity has placed Delhi in the 'excess' category, with no district in the capital receiving deficit rainfall this monsoon. From June 1 to Aug 15, the city logged 506.9 mm of rainfall, with an excess of 43%. India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted very light to light rain over the next few days. Central Delhi received the highest rainfall with an excess of 47%, recording 644.5 mm from June 1 to Aug 15, compared to the normal of 438.2 mm. It is followed by north-east Delhi, which received an excess rainfall of 42%. Other districts which witnessed excess rainfall are east Delhi, south-east Delhi, south-west Delhi and west Delhi. Between 8.30am and 5.30pm, Delhi's base station Safdarjung logged 0.4 mm of rainfall. During the same period, Ayanagar in south-west Delhi recorded 4.6 mm, Pusa and Najafgarh 2 mm each, and Ridge in north Delhi 1.8 mm of rainfall. "There could be moderate rain at isolated places over Delhi on Sunday and very light to light rain or thundershowers for the subsequent five days thereafter," said an IMD official. The maximum temperature on Saturday rose to 34.5 degrees Celsius, with the heat index or 'feel like' temperature recorded at 38.9 degrees Celsius around 5.30pm. The relative humidity oscillated between 71% and 98%. The minimum temperature, however, was reported at 25 degrees Celsius. Meanwhile, Delhi's air quality deteriorated from 'satisfactory' category on Friday to 'moderate' range on Saturday. The AQI was at 118. At 224mm+, Mumbai suburbs record third highest single-day rainfall in 13 years on Aug 16
1 2 Mumbai: Mumbai witnessed intense rainfall in the intervening night of Aug 15 and 16, far exceeding the Indian Meteorological Department's (IMD) forecast, with the suburbs recording 244.7mm of rain in the 24 hours ended 8.30am on Aug 16. The Santacruz observatory's tally was the third-highest single-day rainfall in the month of Aug in at least 13 years after 331mm on Aug 30, 2017, and 268.6mm on Aug 4, 2020. The highest-ever 24-hour rainfall recorded in the month was 346.2mm on Aug 23, 1997. Further, this triple-digit rainfall was also the highest recorded in a 24-hour span in the current monsoon season. Heavy rains see rise in water levels of Terna, Manjara dams in Latur
Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Latur, Aug 16 (PTI) An alert was sounded on Saturday for residents on the banks of Terna and Manjara rivers in Latur district, following the release of water amid heavy rains, officials said. Ten gates of the Lower Terna dam were lifted by 10 cm each at 7am, releasing water at the rate of 3,806.56 cusecs into the river. Later in the afternoon, six gates were closed, reducing the discharge to 1,522.56 cusecs through four gates at 1pm, officials added. Thanks to heavy rainfall in catchment areas, the Manjara dam in Dhanegaon is now 87 per cent full, they said. Manjara river originates near the Gavalwadi village in Beed district and flows south, eventually joining Godavari river in Telangana. Terna river flows through the Ausa and Nilanga Talukas in Latur district. 'The water storage in Nimna Terna reached 95.41 per cent of capacity today. Currently, 1801 cusecs of water is coming into the dam. The storage in Manjara dam reached 91.43 per cent. Since 2pm, 3493.28 cusecs of water has been released into Manjara river," an official said. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) had issued a red alert for 'heavy to very heavy' rainfall in Latur district between 1 pm and 4 pm on Saturday. Officials said eight revenue circles of Marathwada received more than 65 millimetres of rainfall. Dhoki and Ter circles in Dharashiv received the highest rainfall, at 168.50 mm, on Friday, they added.
