NYC lawyer wants hefty payout after United Airlines canceled his flight, then allegedly lied about the reason

New York Post24-05-2025

An NYC lawyer wants United Airlines to pay him $65,000 for leaving him 'stranded' at Newark Airport.
The airline at first blamed mechanical issues, then weather, for canceling the June 28, 2023 flight from Newark to San Francisco, Jonathan Davidoff claimed in a lawsuit.
But the weather was clear when Davidoff, 52 — who said he has flown more than two million miles with United — arrived to catch Flight 2032 for the journey to California to attend to Wineosaurus, a small wine business he owns, he said.

United 'understaffs the airline so that it does not have enough employees to operate all of the flights [it] schedules,' he said in the Manhattan Supreme Court lawsuit in which he's acting as his own lawyer.
The company then 'cherry picks flights to cancel when it does not have sufficient staffing to operate all of the flights it schedules and sells tickets for,' he continued, slamming United for its allegedly 'unfair business practices.'

Davidoff, who also intended to travel to Las Vegas and ultimately canceled the trip, alleged he was refunded the cost of the ticket but not given any compensation and decided to sue 'after exhausting my efforts with United and my claim with Department of Transportation received no response.
3 United declined comment on the allegations.

'I think United can do a lot more. It is the false information and the lack of acceptance of responsibility that is problematic,' he told The Post.
'United penalizes its customers when they need to change flights or have extra luggage, but does not want to be penalized when it does something wrong.'
United declined comment.

Chris Wilder's future as Sheffield United manager in doubt before board meeting

Chris Wilder's future as Sheffield United manager is in doubt, with the club's American owners set to discuss his position at a board meeting. It is thought the recruitment strategy has been a significant factor in pushing Wilder's future towards a crossroads. The US-based consortium COH Sports, led by Steven Rosen and Helmy Eltoukhy, completed a takeover last December. Advertisement The 57-year-old, in his second spell in charge of his boyhood club, led United to the Championship playoff final last month, which they lost to Sunderland, after missing out on automatic promotion. United are keen to press ahead with more 'data-driven' recruitment, which includes the use of artificial intelligence. This week United signed the Nigerian winger Ehije Ukaki from the Bulgarian club Botev Plovdiv, a move made by the winger Christian Nwachukwu, 19, in January. In the same window United signed Jefferson Cáceres, 22, from the Peruvian club FBC Melgar but neither Nwachukwu nor Caceres has made a first-team appearance. The Blades are one of several Championship clubs searching for a manager, with Middlesbrough, Queens Park Rangers and Bristol City also seeking to fill vacancies. On Wednesday Hull City appointed Sergej Jakirovic as their head coach on a two-year contract, and this month West Brom appointed the former Tottenham coach Ryan Mason on a three-year contract.

Matheus Cunha seals ‘dream' £62.5m Manchester United move on deal to 2030

Manchester United have completed the £62.5m signing of Matheus Cunha from Wolves, with the forward intent on helping the club 'back to the top'. The 26-year-old has a five-year contract with the option of a further year and will be paid about £150,000 a week. Cunha said: 'It is hard to put into words my feelings about becoming a Manchester United player. Ever since I was a child in Brazil watching Premier League games on TV at my grandmother's house, United was my favourite English team and I dreamed of wearing the red shirt. Advertisement 'I want to thank my family and everyone who has helped me make that dream a reality. I can't wait for the start of pre-season to get to know my teammates and prepare for the season ahead. All my focus is now on working hard to become a valuable part of the team, and helping get this club back to the top.' United's press release described Jason Wilcox as the director of football, confirming that he has been promoted from his technical director role. Wilcox said: 'Bringing in Matheus was one of our main priorities for this summer, so we are delighted to have completed his signing so early in the window. He has proved his ability to succeed in the Premier League as one of the most exciting and productive forwards in England during his time at Wolves, and before that in Spain and Germany. He has all the qualities we are looking for as we seek to build a strong, dynamic and entertaining team capable of challenging for the biggest honours.' Cunha is Ruben Amorim's first summer addition. The head coach also wishes to buy Bryan Mbeumo, though Brentford are thought to have raised the forward's price to £70m. Viktor Gyökeres is another target, with Sporting demanding about €70m (£60m) for the No 9.
