Rahul Gandhi to sponsor schooling of 22 kids orphaned by India-Pak conflict

Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi is reportedly set to adopt 22 children who lost their parents during the cross-border shelling between India and Pakistan in the aftermath of the April 22 terror attack on tourists in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam.
According to a report in The Indian Express citing Jammu and Kashmir Congress chief Tariq Ahmed Karra, Gandhi will bear the full educational expenses of these children, all of whom were orphaned during the Pakistani shelling in April and May this year.
Karra reportedly said that the first instalment of financial assistance is expected to be released on July 30 to help the children continue their education without interruption. The aid, he added, will be provided until the children complete their graduation.
Identification of beneficiaries
During a visit to Poonch in May, Rahul had reportedly instructed local Congress leaders to compile a list of children affected by the shelling. A detailed survey followed, and names were finalised after cross-verification with official records to ensure the aid reaches eligible beneficiaries.

The former Congress president had also visited the school of 12-year-old twins, Urba Fatima and Zan Ali, who were among the casualties of the shelling.
In April and May 2025, cross-border shelling between India and Pakistan intensified following the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam where 26 Hindu tourists were killed by terrorists. This led to cross-border escalation, causing several civilian casualties, including children.

Pakistan's begging network spread to foreign countries, annual income of Pakistani beggars is $42000000000

New Delhi: Begging has become one of the most important professions in Pakistan. The total population of Pakistan is 23 crores, and out of this, about 4 crore of people are begging. That means every sixth person in Pakistan begs. Pakistanis are not only begging in their country but are also adopting this 'profession' abroad. The Pakistan government is finding it difficult to handle its global image due to beggars. What does the Dawn report say? According to Dawn's report, the population of Pakistan is 23 crores, out of which 3.8 crore are professional beggars. The national average income of a beggar is 850 Pakistani rupees per day. These beggars reportedly get 32 billion rupees in alms every day, which is 117 trillion rupees annually. The annual income of Pakistani beggars in US dollars is 42 billion dollars. How much do Pakistani beggars earn? The Dawn report says that 38 million people are earning $42 billion annually without doing anything. This is directly affecting the rest of the country's population and is the reason for the rise in inflation. A report by the Business and Society Center in Pakistan says that the trend of begging is increasing in the country because it is earning more than other unskilled labour. According to the Asian Human Rights Commission (AHRC), 2.5 to 11 percent of Pakistan's population is begging to earn a living. Express Tribune figures that about 12 lakh children roam the streets of the country's major urban centres. What are the complaints received from abroad? The Pakistan government has collected data of people traveling abroad to beg on the streets. These figures are being collected because 90 percent of the beggars caught abroad are of Pakistani origin. Iraqi and Saudi ambassadors have even complained about this to the Pakistan government. The Pakistan government has suspended passports of thousands of beggars who go to countries like Saudi Arabia, Iraq and Iran under the guise of religious pilgrimage and beg. In the last two and a half years, 44,000 beggars have been sent back to Pakistan from Saudi Arabia and other Gulf countries.

Do not politicise my meeting with Stalin, says O. Panneerselvam

Former Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam on Monday rejected speculations about his likely association with the ruling DMK and further maintained his objective was to form Amma's government in the 2026 Assembly poll. He clarified that his recent comments on the Centre not releasing funds for Tamil Nadu under the Samagra Shiksha programme were not new, and he had flagged this as early as in August 2024. In a statement, Mr. Panneerselvam termed as 'indecent' the attempts by some to politicise his visit to Mr. Stalin's residence. 'The meeting was not related to politics,' he contended.'It is in the culture of the Tamils to visit and enquire about the well-being of someone, who has been under treatment in a hospital and has returned home, and to extend condolences if there is a loss in the family,' he said in a statement. Recalling his visit to the Chief Minister's residence, Mr. Panneerselvam explained that he visited only to enquire about the health of Mr. Stalin and express condolences over the passing of the latter's brother M.K. Muthu. He also rejected contentions and speculations which termed him as 'DMK's Team B', and he was about to forge an alliance with the DMK and maintained there was 'not even an iota of truth in it'. He recalled in June that he had condemned the Hindu Munnani over remarks made against late leaders Periyar E.V. Ramasamy and C.N. Annadurai. 'I have also condemned former BJP leaders who criticised Amma [former CM Jayalalithaa]. I have also recorded my support for the two-language policy,' he asserted. Mr. Panneerselvam added: 'I also directed to vote against the Waqf (Amendment) Bill in the Rajya Sabha. Irrespective of wherever I am, I will walk on the path laid down by Amma for the rights and welfare of the people of Tamil Nadu.'

"The Congress drama of 'saffron terrorism' has been exposed. The court has proved that a Hindu can never be a terrorist," he said. He said that leader of opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi must act responsibly according to the mandate of the constitution for the LOP in Lok Sabha. He was talking to mediapersons on the state assembly premises here on Monday. On excessive rains in some parts of the state and loss of life, property and crops, Yadav said that he was going for a survey of worst affected areas.
