Stowers ends 31-game homer drought, Alcántara solid over 6 innings to help Marlins beat Braves 5-3
MIAMI (AP) — Kyle Stowers ended a 31-game home run drought, Sandy Alcántara pitched six strong innings and the Miami Marlins beat the Atlanta Braves 5-3 on Sunday in the rubber game of their three-game series.
Otto López had two hits and drove in two runs, and Xavier Edwards singled twice, doubled and had an RBI for the Marlins.
Alcántara (4-8) allowed three runs and six hits, walked two and struck out four. The 2022 NL Cy Young Award winner has completed six innings in three of his last four starts.
Anthony Bender tossed 1 2/3 scoreless innings in relief of Alcántara, Calvin Faucher got the last two outs in the eighth and Ronny Henriquez pitched the ninth for his second save.
López and Dane Myers hit run-scoring singles off Braves starter Bryce Elder in the fifth to put the Marlins ahead 4-2.
Elder (2-4) allowed five runs and 10 hits in 5 1/3 innings.
The Braves struck quickly against Alcántara on Austin Riley's RBI single in the first.
But Stowers tied it at 1 with a solo homer in the second. It was Stowers' 11th homer of the season and first since he went deep twice against the Chicago Cubs on May 14.
Atlanta retook the lead on Drake Baldwin's run-scoring single in the third before Miami tied it again when López hit an RBI single in the bottom half.

Associated Press ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — Patrick Agyemang scored a tiebreaking goal in the 75th minute, and the United States overcame Matt Freese's goalkeeping gaffe to beat Haiti 2-1 on Sunday night and win its CONCACAF Gold Cup group with a 3-0 record. Malik Tillman put the U.S. ahead in the 10th minute with his third goal of the tournament but Freese, who has displaced Matt Turner, highlighted the Americans' goalkeeping issues a year ahead of the World Cup with a botched clearing attempt that led to Louicius Don Deedson's 19th-minute goal. After Tillman came close three times in the second half, Agyemang scored after taking a long pass from John Tolkin. Agyemang touched the ball past goalkeeper Johny Placide and slotted into an open net for his fifth international goal and second of the tournament. The U.S., which opened with victories over Trinidad and Tobago and invited guest Saudi Arabia, won its group for the 17th time in 18 Gold Cups. Pacers star Tyrese Haliburton suffers lower right leg injury and ruled out of Game 7 of NBA Finals
OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — Indiana star Tyrese Haliburton was starting a move toward the basket, and his right leg didn't seem to move with him. And the ensuing scene was heartbreaking for the Pacers. Haliburton — who was playing with a strained right calf — tumbled to the court in a heap, immediately began punching the floor in frustration and needed to be helped to the locker room in Game 7 of the NBA Finals against the Oklahoma City Thunder on Sunday night. The Pacers quickly determined that Haliburton would be ruled out for the rest of Game 7 with a lower right leg injury, and replays appeared to show something popping in the back of his leg. The injury happened with 4:55 left in the first quarter. Haliburton put no weight on the leg and had his face wrapped in towels as he was taken to the Pacers' locker room for evaluation. Virtually the entire Indiana playing, coaching and medical staff surrounded him on the court once he got hurt. 'It's a heartbreak, man,' Pacers center Myles Turner told ABC during an in-game interview after the opening period. 'It's unfortunate ... but we've got his back.' Haliburton, who had been dealing with leg issues in the series and had the calf issue flare up in Game 5, had been getting all sorts of treatment to get the calf in good enough shape for him to play in the last two games of the NBA Finals. He will surely miss at least some of next season as well. Milwaukee's Damian Lillard also tore an Achilles tendon in the Bucks' first-round series against Indiana. Golden State's Stephen Curry ran out of time before his injured hamstring could allow him to return to the Warriors' second-round series against Minnesota. If the Los Angeles Lakers' season had gone past the first round, LeBron James would have been sidelined with a knee sprain. James was watching Game 7 and immediately posted his reaction to Haliburton's injury on social media. It was a one-word expletive, which didn't need much explanation.
