Chloe Kelly issues apology for Lionesses victory parade incident - 'Emotions got better of me'
Chloe Kelly has apologised after swearing while being interviewed on live TV in front of thousands of Lionesses fans.
Kelly was joined by her England team-mates for a victory parade down The Mall in London on Tuesday. The team had the Euro 2025 trophy with them on an open-top as they were greeted by an estimated 65,000 supporters in central London.
Manager Sarina Wiegman and captain Leah Williamson then led the squad up onto a stage outside Buckingham Palace, where they were interviewed by Alex Scott. There were some heartwarming moments, including Wiegman doing a duet with Burna Boy and Williamson holding back tears as she spoke.
But there was also a moment where Kelly – the scorer of England's winning penalty against Spain on Sunday – turned the air blue. She said: 'It feels so good to stand side by side with each and every one of these girls.
'It's so f****** special. It's incredible to stand here today with a winners' medal around our necks and I'm so proud to be English.'
It wasn't the first time that the Arsenal forward had been caught on camera swearing, having dropped the same word after picking up her winners' medal from Prince William in Basel. This time she quickly took to social media, writing: 'Ooops. Emotions got the better of me. Sorry for the F bomb. Love, CK x.'
Kelly's apology is sure to be accepted by the vast majority of football fans, who watched her play a crucial role in England's second straight European Championship triumph. Kelly helped turn two games around after coming off the bench in the knockout stages and kept her cool to blast in the winning spot-kick on Sunday.
Another hero from Switzerland was goalkeeper Hannah Hampton, who excelled in the high-pressure situations of penalties. 'They [her teammates] got me through the whole tournament, when it didn't start off the way I wanted [it] to and they just kept me going,' she said on stage.
'To be standing here with this group of girls is amazing. Don't let people tell you what you can and can't do. If you've got a dream and you really believe it, just go out and do it. I got told many times that I'm not good enough, that I shouldn't be playing football from the start, so just keep doing it and, if it makes you happy, go follow that smile.'
Williamson struggled to hold it together while addressing the huge crowd. 'I'm in the trenches, I'm holding back tears,' she said. 'I've been crying all the way down the Mall. This is unbelievable. Thank you for coming out.
'My message is, everything we do, obviously we do it for us and our team, but we do it for the country, and we do it for young girls. This job never existed 30, 40 years ago and we're making history every single step. Thank you so much for being with us. Stay with us, this story is not done yet.'

Kick It Out say reports of abuse and discrimination in football is at record high
Football 's anti- discrimination charity Kick It Out received almost 1,400 reports of discrimination during the 2024-25 season, a record high. There were 1,398 reports of abuse, Kick It Out revealed, up from 1,332 in the 2023-24 campaign. The data shows a rise in sexism, transphobia, and faith-based abuse, with racism remaining the most reported form of discrimination. There was a big spike in sexism and misogyny, with the number of complaints rising by 67 per cent, with a rise also in youth football. Kick It Out chief executive Samuel Okafor said: 'These figures show that discrimination remains deeply embedded across the game, but the rise in abuse in youth football should be a wake-up call. 'No one should be facing hostility simply for taking part. 'What we're seeing now is that fans aren't just reporting abuse, they're demanding action. There's been a clear shift this season in how people are calling out sexist behaviour, both online and in stadiums, and asking football to treat it as seriously as any other form of hate.' 'At the same time, it's clear that online platforms are still falling short. The volume of abuse remains high, and too often, those responsible face no consequences. 'Fans are doing their part by speaking up. It's now up to football authorities, tech companies and government to show they're listening, and to act.' During Euro 2025, Lionesses defender Jess Carter was sent 'vile' and 'abhorrent' racist abuse online following their quarter-final win over Sweden. The Football Association (FA) confirmed they were working with UK police and the relevant social media platforms, while Carter said she would 'a step back' from social media as a result of the abuse she has received throughout the tournament. In May, Kick It Out has called on the football authorities to show 'solidarity and support' to the trans community after the English and Scottish governing bodies banned transgender women from the competitive female game. The football associations updated their policies in light of last month's ruling from the UK Supreme Court, which clarified that the word 'sex' in the 2010 Equality Act meant biological sex. Previously, transgender women had been able to compete provided they reduced testosterone to accepted levels. The FA's new policy came into effect on June 1.

RB Leipzig and Liverpool begin transfer talks over 'fearless' £50m English star
RB Leipzig have entered transfer talks with Liverpool over a deal to sign their 'fearless' £50m English star Harvey Elliott, according to reports. The German club are interested in recruiting Elliott as a replacement for Xavi Simons, who is expected to join Chelsea in the summer window. Liverpool want £50m to sell the 22-year-old, although they'd be open to offers of £40m if a buy-back clause was inserted into the deal. The Athletic report that RB Leipzig have made contact with Liverpool and discussions – which are currently ongoing – are at an early stage. Harvey Elliott offered Liverpool escape option with Chelsea playing role in transfer

The German club have contacted Liverpool and are speaking to the player in a bid to sell their project to the Liverpool attacking midfielder. Elliott, 22, is a boyhood Liverpool fan and is reluctant to give up on playing for his dream club - but will move on if it will further his career by playing more regularly. He faces serious competition at Anfield following the arrival of Florian Wirtz while Jeremie Frimpong can fill in for Mo Salah on the right side. Leipzig will try to convince Elliott that they are the best place for his next move before continuing more detailed discussions with Liverpool. The Bundesliga club are set to sell Simons to Chelsea for more than £60m. They're also set to bring in more than £70m for Benjamin Sesko with Manchester United and Newcastle tussling out for the striker's signature. Back in June, Elliott was urged to 'get out and play' by Jermain Defoe after helping England U21s retain their European Championship crown. Joe Cole, also analysing the game for Channel 4, was in full agreement with his former England colleague. He said: 'I love the lad. 'He's done a great job for Liverpool, and if he decides to move on, I still feel there's levels. For a player to come to a tournament and do what he's done, there's levels for him to go up again, and I'd love to see him playing with that kind of passion and happiness on his face every week.'
