SWCorp Introduces Santuni MADANI Community Recycling Initiative In Kg Bukit Pulau

MELAKA, July 19 (Bernama) -- The Solid Waste Management and Public Cleansing Corporation (SWCorp) has introduced an innovative recycling initiative in Kampung Bukit Pulau, Bukit Baru to foster sustainable communities through the One Leader One Village (Santuni MADANI) programme.
SWCorp chief executive officer Khalid Mohamed said the programme includes the construction of a composting facility which uses the Takakura method to convert food waste into organic fertiliser, providing residents with an opportunity to generate income.
'In addition, a community-based recycling platform focusing on the collection of used cooking oil, recyclable household items, electronic and fabric waste has been launched,' he told reporters after officiating the programme, which was also attended by SWCorp Melaka director Zaki Md Nor.

Kuala Betis Wild Elephant Translocation operation chief Mohamad Zainuddin Busrah said the elephants, named Mek Mas, Mek Leha, Mek Ja, Mek Ti and Anak Ouk, range from one to 25 years old. 'One female elephant was captured on July 27, followed by four others on July 31,' he told reporters at Kampung Lalang today. The operation involved 26 personnel from Perhilitan Kelantan and Terengganu, alongside the Kuala Gandah National Elephant Conservation Centre in Pahang. Four of the elephants have already been relocated, with the fifth scheduled for transfer tomorrow. 'The relocation began at 3 pm yesterday, starting with a mother and her calf. Two more were moved today and the last one will be relocated tomorrow,' he said. The translocation was assisted by two trained elephants, Rambai and Cheri, from the Kuala Gandah centre. - Bernama

Firefighters save 1,300 homes in Tawau village blaze

TAWAU: A rapid response by firefighters prevented a major disaster in Kampung Kurnia Jaya today, saving 1,300 houses from destruction despite 26 homes being lost in the fire. The blaze broke out in the morning, prompting an immediate emergency deployment. Tawau Fire and Rescue Station operations officer Madzlan Sharman confirmed that the alarm was raised at 9.37 am, with 39 personnel and five operation vehicles, including two Fire Rescue Tender engines, rushing to the scene. 'Firefighters used seawater and water from our tanks to control the flames,' he stated. Authorities reported no casualties, as all residents managed to evacuate safely. The firefighting operation concluded by 11.45 am. Investigations into the cause and extent of the damage are ongoing. - Bernama
