‘Sankaran Nair put the whole British Empire on trial': Kesari 2 director reveals how Mahatama Gandhi, who had his differences with the lawyer, changed his opinion
Nair, who was a believer in the British Empire, quickly changed his stance after the Jallianwala Bagh massacre and decided to call out the colonisers in a book called Gandhi and Anarchy. Tyagi talked about this very incident and how much of the film was directly inspired by the book penned by Sankaran, The Case That Shook The Nation. 'Sankaran Nair wrote a book called Gandhi and Anarchy, and he got sued for defamation for writing that book. The fact that I am a lawyer helps me because to counter the defamation suit, you need to prove what happened at Jallianwala Bagh. So we have kept the soul and the essence from the book (The Case That Shook The Nation)'.
He then proceeded to talk about another story which he got from the book that highlighted the relationship between Sankaran and Mahatma Gandhi. 'Mahatma Gandhi and Sankaran Nair had their differences, but after the trial, Gandhi stated that 'Sankaran Nair has not only put Michael O'Dwyer on trial but the whole British Empire on trial, and that they have been found wanting,' he told Bollywood Hungama.
Even though many questions have been raised regarding the film's historical accuracy, Tyagi maintained throughout the interview that everything in the film comes from the original literature and that he read several books and testimonies of the survivors. 'We were honouring the sacrifice of people who came to the Bagh to celebrate Baisakhi and left as martyrs, and we were honouring the sacrifice of one of India's forgotten heroes, Sankaran Nair. So we had to be authentic, and we had to be sensitive to the material,' added the director. An alumnus of Government Law College, Mumbai, Karan did his LLM from Harvard Law School. He went on to work at international law firms in Paris and New York, but 'bitten by the Bollywood bug', he returned to India and assisted Vishal Bhardwaj on Rangoon.
The historical courtroom drama was released on April 18, and the cast of the film includes Akshay Kumar, R. Madhavan and Ananya Panday.

"Famous Cricketer Asked Me To Meet In Person": Kashish Kapoor, Bigg Boss 18 Contestant, Reveals Creepy Experience
Kashish Kapoor, Bigg Boss 18 contestant and actor, has made an interesting claim when asked in an interview about a creepy experience. "Have you found any one creepy?" she was asked by the anchor. "Actually this very famous cricketer. That was a little creepy also. He asked to meet in person. I denied. You are a cricketer at home. To me you are a guy, impress me. I wouldn't be impressed just because of your occupation right. He thought I should be impressed because he is a cricketer and it can be easy. But I don't like that. You're a cricketer, its a profession, I respect, but to me you are not going to bat and bowl with me that I am going to be impressed," she said on Filmygyan Viral. Back in July, Kashish Kapoo alleged she was robbed of Rs 4.5 lakh in cash from her house in Mumbai's Andheri. Ms Kapoor has registered a First Information Report (FIR) against her domestic help, Sachin Kumar Chaudhary, who has been missing ever since the robbery, for allegedly stealing money from her cupboard. Actor Kashish Kapoor had kept Rs 7 lakh in cash in her cupboard. She was to send it to her mother in her hometown. However, one day, when she opened the cupboard to take out the cash, over half of it was missing. Only Rs 2.5 lakh was present there. The suspicion fell on Sachin, Ms Kapoor's domestic help, who went missing after the incident. The actor has registered a complaint at the Amboli Police Station. The police are investigating the case and searching for Sachin. The initial investigation suggests that Sachin had planned to flee the house immediately after taking some cash. "I am very hurt by this incident. I trusted that person, but he has hurt both my feelings and trust," Ms Kapoor said. "I hope the police will catch him as soon as possible and justice will be served," she added.

Director Shazia Iqbal calls out industry's lack of support for Dhadak 2: ‘Do they feel the need to make socially relevant films?'
Dhadak 2 director Shazia Iqbal recently spoke about the film industry's lack of support for socially relevant cinema. Her debut feature, which addresses casteism in India, released in theatres on August 1. In a recent interview, Shazia criticised the industry's silence despite Dhadak 2, starring Triptii Dimri and Siddhant Chaturvedi, receiving widespread critical acclaim. During a chat with Zoom, Shazia expressed her disappointment over the Bollywood industry's unwillingness to support films that showcase caste politics. 'When a film makes Rs 500 crore, there's an instant noise; people want to explore that genre, like horror-comedy after Stree. But how much does critical acclaim matter to producers and studios when a film talks about caste in such a strong way?' she questioned. Do they feel the need to make socially relevant films and talk about caste loudly in our films? It hasn't even been there subtly. We have taken more time, but I hope it happens for the sake of storytellers and filmmakers,' the director added. Shazia Iqbal also expressed happiness at receiving praise from filmmaker Payal Kapadia, whose film All We Imagine As Light won big at Cannes. She said, 'The filmmaking community is really happy. Cheating case: HC relief for actor Nivin Pauly & director Abrid Shine
Kochi: High court has stayed further proceedings in a criminal case against Malayalam film actor Nivin Pauly and director Abrid Shine , accused of swindling Rs 1.90 crore from a film producer in connection with the making of the upcoming movie 'Action Hero Biju 2'. Justice V G Arun on Tuesday issued the interim stay on petitions filed by Pauly and Shine seeking to quash the cheating case registered at Thalayolaparambu police station in Vaikom on the basis of a private complaint by P S Shamnas, a co-producer of the movie. Police had booked the petitioners under Sections 406 (criminal breach of trust) and 420 (cheating) of the IPC, following a directive from the judicial first-class magistrate court, Vaikom. The petitioners contended that the magistrate ordered the registration of the case without considering an earlier police report, which concluded that the dispute was civil in nature. HC found merit in the petitioners' contention. Referring to the investigating officer's report — submitted pursuant to the magistrate's direction — which stated that the matter was civil in nature and that the complainant should pursue civil remedies, HC held that the magistrate could not have forwarded the complaint for investigation under Section 175(3) of the BNSS without addressing the report and conducting a further inquiry. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like The 5 Books Warren Buffett Recommends You To Read in 2025 Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo The court, therefore, stayed the proceedings and adjourned the matter to Sept 11. According to the complaint, Shamnas invested Rs 1.90 crore in April for the production of the movies, but a budget dispute arose. The accused allegedly conspired to defraud him by selling the film's overseas rights for Rs 5 crore to another company, receiving Rs 2 crore in advance. The complaint adds that the parties had earlier collaborated on Pauly's previous film, 'Mahaveeryar', which was a financial failure, and Pauly had promised to pay Rs 95 lakh to Shamnas and agreed that he could be a co-producer in the new film. Shamnas further alleged that although the film's title was initially registered with Abrid Shine Productions, it was later transferred to his company, Indian Movie Makers. However, he claimed the accused concealed the title transfer and sold the overseas rights to another company. Meanwhile, Palarivattom police registered a case against Shamnas based on a petition filed by Pauly, alleging that Shamnas had obtained the title registration of the film using a forged letter purportedly issued on Pauly's behalf.
