Sindh govt launches drive against excessive fares ahead of Eid
KARACHI: The Transport and Mass Transit Department, Government of Sindh, has launched a campaign against the overcharging of fares ahead of Eid-ul-Adha.
In this regard, Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon has issued instructions to the IG Sindh Police, all Commissioners, Deputy Commissioners, and senior officers of the Transport and Traffic Police. Senior Minister of Sindh, Sharjeel Inam Memon, has directed all Commissioners and Deputy Commissioners to take immediate action against transporters charging excessive fares in their respective areas.
Senior Minister and Provincial Minister for Information, Transport, and Mass Transit, Sharjeel Inam Memon, has stated that Eid is a time to be spent with family, and no one has the right to take advantage of people's needs.
He emphasized that nobody would be permitted to take advantage of the public on this day.

PM Shehbaz vows to resolve all issues concerning KP
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday assured to address all issues concerning Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Addressing a Jirga in Peshawar, he announced to form a committee to look into all the demands and issues raised by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister, according to a statement from Prime Minister's office. The Honourable Prime Minister of Pakistan, Mr. Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, along with Federal Ministers of Defence, Interior, Information and Federal Minister for Kashmir & GB Affairs, visited Peshawar today. Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, NI(M), Chief of Army Staff (COAS) was also with PM on the visit to Peshawar. On arrival, CM & Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhawa welcomed the Prime Minister. During the visit, Prime Minister addressed a Grand Jirga attended by eminent tribal elders from across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The Governor and Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa were also present at the occasion. In his address, the Prime Minister paid tributes to the indomitable spirit and historic sacrifices of the valiant Pakhtun people in their enduring quest for peace and stability. He remarked, 'The sacrifices rendered by the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are indelibly inscribed in the annals of our national history. The entire nation salutes your courage, resolve, and unwavering commitment.' The Prime Minister called upon tribal elders to remain resolute in countering the Indian-sponsored Fitna-ul-Khawarij, and to expose its malignant ideology and deceitful narrative. Commending the Pakistan Army, Frontier Corps, Police, and other Law Enforcement Agencies for their exemplary service and sacrifices, the Prime Minister affirmed, 'Peace in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa shall be preserved at all costs. The Pakistan Army, in unison with all security institutions and the valiant people of the province, stands firmly united against the Fitna-ul-Khawarij and its foreign abettors.' Reiterating Pakistan's commitment to regional harmony, the Prime Minister stressed the imperative of enhanced bilateral cooperation with Afghanistan, and urged that Afghan soil must not be allowed to be used by Indian proxies to perpetrate terrorism against Pakistan. He further lauded the youth of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa as a vital national asset, encouraging them to play a constructive role in advancing peace, opportunity, and national cohesion for future generations. ESD rescues 211,354 victims in May
LAHORE: Emergency Services Department rescued 211,354 victims while responding to 210,360 emergencies across Punjab in May 2025. These emergencies includes 140,645 medical emergencies, 39,978 road traffic crashes, 5,526 falls/ slip, 4,746 crime incidents, 4,131 fire incidents, 4,003 delivery cases, 2,389 Occupational Injuries, 1,336 Animal Rescue, 1,038 electric shock, 331 burn cases, 140 drowning incidents, 96 structural collapses and 6,001 miscellaneous operations in Punjab. Expressing serious concern over 39,978 road traffic crashes, 4,131 fire emergencies and 140 drowning emergencies during the May 2025, the Secretary, Emergency Services Department (ESD) Punjab Dr Rizwan Naseer urged all citizens to ensure safety precaution while visiting water recreational sites during Eid vacations. He emphasized the importance of strictly following all safety measures, especially when engaging in swimming or other water activities. He specifically advised people not to enter the water or boat without wearing life jackets and overloading boats to avoid capsizing. As per data, 436 people died in 39,978 Road Traffic Crashes in Punjab during the last month. Out of these traffic crashes, the majority of traffic accidents 7,384 occurred in Lahore in which 38 people died. Similarly, 2,671 RTCs in Faisalabad, 2,527 RTCs in Multan, 2,139 in Gujranwala, 1,491 in Sheikhupura and 1,290 in Bahawalpur while the remaining 22,466 road traffic crashes took place in other districts of Punjab. Similarly, the majority of fire incidents took place in major districts i.e., 602 incidents in Lahore, 300 in Faisalabad, 206 in Gujranwala, 187 in Sialkot, 184 in Sheikhupura and 174 in Rawalpindi. Crackdown on illegal cattle markets

PHOTO: Jala Qureshi Express Administrative officials have launched a vigorous crackdown on unauthorised cattle markets across the metropolis, particularly in District East. The campaign, initiated on the directives of Commissioner Syed Hassan Naqvi, aims to curb the unauthorised establishment of animal markets that pose public health and safety risks. According to Commissioner Naqvi, operations against illegal cattle markets are being carried out with full force. In District East alone, action has been taken against 41 unauthorised markets, resulting in the registration of 51 FIRs and the arrest of 137 people. Over the past two days, authorities have acted against 22 new illegal cattle markets in the district. During these operations, 21 FIRs were registered and 63 people were taken into custody. Moreover, 17 animals were seized. Commissioner Naqvi said that illegal cattle markets contribute to serious issues, including traffic congestion, sanitation challenges, and public health risks. He reaffirmed the administration's resolve to ensure that only officially designated cattle markets operate within the metropolis. "The campaign against illegal markets will continue in the coming days without any leniency," he said.
