KR Rao takes charge as CS
Hyderabad: With a mounting challenge of streamlining the administration from village to state Secretariat, Senior IAS officer K Ramakrishna Rao took charge as the new state Chief Secretary at his chambers on Wednesday.
The new head of the state administration was already assigned the task of achieving the goals set by the government in the implementation of the welfare and development programs.
Retaining the post of Finance Secretary (Full Additional Charge), the new Chief Secretary would also focus on addressing the financial challenges in the new financial year of 2025-2026 particularly mobilizing funds to meet the requirement of Rythu Bharosa, Rajiv Yuva Vikasam and Indiramma housing schemes.
Rao already has vast experience in mopping up funds from different financial institutions. Now, as the Chief Secretary, he is expected to pay more attention to borrowing funds from international funding agencies like JICA and World Bank, for executing projects like Musi Rejuvenation, Metro Rail Phase -2, Future City and other major infrastructure development projects in the state.
The Chief Secretary will also review the performance of the officers regularly and replace the underperforming officers with new ones in some important wings.
On the first day of taking charge, Rao got the opportunity to attend a video conference held by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The Chief Secretary explained the status of welfare schemes and the challenges being faced by the state in their implementation.

Formula E race: KTR gets fresh ACB summons
Hyderabad: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB), which is probing the irregularities in the Formula E race, has once again summoned former minister K T Rama Rao. The BRS working president has been asked to appear for an inquiry by 10 am on Monday. Meanwhile, Rao dared Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy to take a lie detector test along with him since names of both figure in ACB cases. Earlier, the investigating agency had served notices on KTR on May 26 asking him to attend the inquiry on May 28. However, the BRS leader sought time as he was on his way to the USA and UK, which the agency obliged. Rao, who had earlier attended the Enforcement Directorate (ED) inquiry, went to depose on January 6 along with his lawyers. However, the inquiry officials did not allow the presence of others following which KTR left. Subsequently, on January 8, he appeared before the investigators, who grilled him for seven hours. The ACB is probing irregularities to the tune of a whopping Rs 55 crore. The agency has named three accused, including KTR (A1), senior IAS officer Arvind Kumar (A2) and former HMDA engineer BLN Reddy as A3. Each has been questioned separately.

TV anchor not liable for panellist's statement: Supreme Court
Supreme Court (Photo: ANI) NEW DELHI: Putting a premium on the right to free speech and expression, Supreme Court on Friday ordered the release of Sakshi TV anchor K Srinivasa Rao, who was held by Andhra police for abetting alleged derogatory and defamatory statements by a panelist on his live show on Amaravati. Justices Mishra and Manmohan said, "Rao has not made the statement. His journalistic participation in a live TV show deserves to be protected, so as that of his fundamental right to free speech. Rao shall be released on bail on conditions to be imposed by the trial court." Guest called Amaravati 'capital of sex workers' On June 6, political analyst V V R Krishnamraju had appeared as a panelist on a show anchored by Rao on Sakshi TV, considered a mouthpiece of opposition YSR Congress Party which while in govt had abrogated previous TDP dispensation's Amaravati capital project, and referred to the capital as 'capital of sex workers". Appearing for the 70-year-old Rao, senior advocate Siddharth Dave told a bench of Justices Prashant Kumar Mishra and Manmohan that he was only hosting the TV show and that the statement is not attributed to him but to a panellist over whom he had no control.
