Cambodia-Thailand ceasefire talks, Madani govt debt set for Dewan Rakyat spotlight today
Based on the Order Paper on the Parliament portal, the matter was raised by Rodiyah Sapiee (GPS-Batang Sadong) to the Prime Minister during Minister's Question Time.
In the same session, Datuk Iskandar Dzulkarnain Abdul Khalid (PN-Kuala Kangsar) also sought clarification from the Prime Minister on whether the Madani Government was managing the national debt responsibly.
Meanwhile, in the question and answer session, Isnaraissah Munirah Majilis (Warisan-Kota Belud) asked the Foreign Minister about the proposed Joint Development with Indonesia in the ND 6 and ND 7 Ambalat blocks.
She also wanted to know whether the same method would be used through the Malaysia-Thailand Joint Development Authority (MTJDA) or another method given that the rights of Sabah as well as Sarawak are protected under the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63).
Datuk Che Mohamad Zulkifly Jusoh (PN-Besut) asked the Prime Minister to state the government's decision after a holistic engagement session with stakeholders regarding the status of the establishment of the Malaysian Ombudsman, as well as the next steps to expedite its establishment.
In addition, Jimmy Puah Wee Tse (PH-Tebrau) asked the Minister of Defence if the ministry had plans to integrate the use of unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) technology in the country's air defence system.
The Dewan Rakyat sitting will then resume with the debate session on the 13th Malaysia Plan (RMK13) motion tabled by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim last Thursday.
This Dewan Rakyat session will last for 24 days until August 28. — Bernama

Tengku Zafrul: No formal US tariff yet on Malaysia-made chips
KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 7 — Malaysia has sought clarification from the United States on a proposed 100% tariff on semiconductor chips manufactured in countries without US-based production facilities. Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Seri Tengku Zafrul Abdul Aziz told Parliament today that the ministry had reached out to the US Trade Representative and Department of Commerce to understand the policy's implementation, The Edge reported. Tengku Zafrul expressed hope that any changes in US trade policy, including exclusion criteria, would be communicated and negotiated early to preserve Malaysia's position as a strategic trading partner. The move follows remarks yesterday by US President Donald Trump, who reportedly said that a 100 per cent tariff would be imposed on all imported semiconductor chips entering the US. However, Trump clarified that the tariff would not apply to companies that had already committed to or were in the process of setting up manufacturing operations in the US. Tengku Zafrul noted that there had been no formal announcement yet and said semiconductor products from Malaysia remain exempt from the 19 per cent 'reciprocal' tariff set to take effect on August 8. He warned that the exemption remains under review as part of a Section 232 investigation by the US Department of Commerce, which could still result in new tariffs being imposed. In 2024, Malaysia exported nearly RM120 billion worth of electrical and electronic (E&E) goods to the US, accounting for about 20 per cent of the nation's total E&E exports. Of this, semiconductor products alone contributed RM60.6 billion, underscoring the sector's importance to Malaysia's trade with the US. Tengku Zafrul warned that if US tariffs are applied, the impact on Malaysia could be severe, and said his ministry would hold outreach sessions with industry players and push for greater export market diversification.

Kua questions DAP's stance after Guan Eng's minimum wage remark
Former Petaling Jaya MP Kua Kia Song criticised DAP's Lim Guan Eng for ignoring the fact that Malaysia is an ILO member and has worked for years to align with its standards. PETALING JAYA : Former MP and Suaram director Kua Kia Soong has questioned whether DAP's stance on social justice and equality has changed after the party's national adviser Lim Guan Eng made remarks opposing the minimum wage and EPF contributions for migrant workers. Kua said the party, which has long styled itself as 'the conscience of Malaysian politics', risks appearing like a 'hollow vessel' when it comes to defending labour rights. He also took aim at DAP's youth wing for remaining silent on the matter. 'What is the point of maintaining a wing called 'DAP Socialist Youth' (DAPSY) if its members remain silent while the party publicly defends wage discrimination and violates international labour norms?' he asked in a statement today. 'If DAPSY cannot even take a principled stand when one of its senior leaders calls for lower wages for migrants and effectively codifies inequality into law, then it must answer a simple question: What exactly do you exist for?' While debating the 13th Malaysia Plan in Parliament this week, Lim said there was 'no need to mandate the RM1,700 minimum wage and 2% EPF contributions for migrant workers' already in the workforce. Lim pointed to Singapore's policy of not requiring Central Provident Fund contributions for migrant workers since 2003 without repercussions from the International Labour Organisation (ILO). The former finance minister also said that Malaysia was not bound by any United Nations or ILO conventions. But Kua said this ignores the fact that Malaysia is an ILO member and has worked for years to align with its standards. 'Never mind that ILO Convention 100 mandates equal pay for equal work, or that Convention 111 prohibits discrimination based on national origin, or that Convention 143 insists on equal treatment of migrants in wages and working conditions,' he added.

Budget 2026 to focus on competitiveness, MSMEs and governance as first step in 13th Malaysia Plan, says Amir Hamzah
PUTRAJAYA, August 7 — The 2026 Budget, which will be tabled this October in the Dewan Rakyat, marks the first budget to support the goals of the 13th Malaysia Plan and will focus on three main pillars, namely raising the ceiling, raising the floor, and strengthening good governance in the public administration. According to the Parliamentary Calendar, the 2026 Budget is scheduled to be presented on October 10. Minister of Finance II, Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan, said that in raising the ceiling, the government aims to enhance the country's competitiveness and support high-growth, high-value sectors, particularly the semiconductor industry, energy transition, and Islamic economy. He added that the government will also continue to empower micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) as well as startups, to become producers of 'Made by Malaysia' products and services. 'The digital and artificial intelligence agenda continues to be prioritised, alongside efforts to nurture creativity and promote value-based economic growth,' he said in his speech at the inaugural Budget 2026 Engagement Council today.
