Two companies announced as sponsors for Dudley family day event
TWO companies have been announced as gold sponsors for a family day event in Dudley.
X2 Workspaces and Neutrino Global Ltd are supporting the Black Country Innovative Manufacturing Organisation (BCIMO) family day on Saturday, May 17.
The event is part of the Railway 200 celebrations, marking 200 years since the Stockton and Darlington Railway opened in 1825.
It will be held at the Very Light Rail National Innovation Centre (VLRNIC) in Dudley.
The day will include stalls from businesses and organisations, fairground rides, live entertainment and a variety of food and drink options.
Attendees will also have the opportunity to ride the Coventry Very Light Rail (CVLR) vehicle along the full test track. This will take passengers through the Dudley railway tunnel and around a 15m radius loop.
The event will support five charities and will be opened by Pete Waterman OBE, president of the Railway Benefit Fund.
Clive Poole, director at X2 Workspaces, said: "X2 Workspaces are proud to sponsor the BCIMO family day, reflecting our own values of supporting the community and innovation.
"We were delighted to be involved in the innovation centre fit out two years ago, helping to create a standout functional collaboration space and innovative interior environment.
"We are equally pleased to offer continued support as a partner to the organisation following this major project, through the provision of printed signage to help promote the event."
Adam Taylor, director at Neutrino, said: "We're always delighted to support the live projects at BCIMO, they're a wonderful team and are a pleasure to work alongside.
"The auditorium and exhibition hall are both excellent live event spaces; they're well provisioned with core AV equipment that we can augment on occasion and they couldn't be easier to integrate with."

First passenger steam train to go on show in city
The first steam locomotive to haul a passenger-carrying train on a public railway is set to go on display in Derby. Locomotion No.1 was built 200 years ago by Robert Stephenson and Company, a Newcastle-based firm named after the son of "father of the railways" George Stephenson. It became the first locomotive to carry passengers on a public train when it was used on the Stockton and Darlington Railway in September 1825. The locomotive is now set to go on display at train manufacturer Alstom in Derby at a three-day event called The Greatest Gathering, which is part of Railway 200, a year-long celebration marking the creation of the railways. Locomotion No.1 is one of a number of rail vehicles from the UK National Collection which have been loaned to Alstom by the National Railway Museum, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2025. Robert Stephenson and Company became part of Alstom in 1989 as a result of successive mergers. Alstom managing director Rob Whyte said: "We are very excited that Locomotion No.1 will be joining an already unprecedented roster of historic and modern rolling stock at The Greatest Gathering. "I want to thank the National Railway Museum – and indeed countless other partners across the UK rail industry – for supporting our mammoth event for Railway 200. "We look forward to welcoming ticketholders to Britain's biggest rail celebration later this year." The Greatest Gathering will take place at Alstom's Litchurch Lane site from Friday 1 August to Sunday 3 August, and will show more than 50 rolling stock exhibits. Sales suspended for historic train gathering event
Sales of tickets for a major gathering of historic railway vehicles has been suspended due to "unprecedented demand" from "around the world". Derby train manufacturer Alstom will open its factory for the first time in more than 50 years in August to showcase a number of vintage trains - celebrating the 200th anniversary of the world's first passenger train service. On Thursday, Alstom told the BBC its third-party ticket provider website "struggled to cope" and made a decision to suspend sales until its "provider's servers can handle the expected web traffic". A spokesman said tickets for the Greatest Gathering event were still available, and details of when sales resume would be promoted on their website. The BBC understands the event has had interest from people in Australia, Canada and other countries. One person who tried to secure tickets contacted the BBC about the problems. He said: "It's been a day of chaos for anyone trying to buy tickets for this event. Quite simply, the ticket website couldn't cope and rolled over. "Even when they put more measures in place, it was still almost impossible to actually get through the checkout. Some whether they got a ticket or not remains to be seen." More than 50 rolling stock exhibits from the past, present and future of the railways will be on display, featuring a combination of those powered by steam, diesel and electricity. The event will feature rides along Derby's test track, and a variety of narrow-gauge trains will be in operation. Fairground attractions, street food and live music will also feature. Up to 30,000 people are expected to attend the three-day event, which will form part of the wider Railway 200 festivities. The industry is embarking on a year-long celebration named Railway 200 to mark the opening of the Stockton and Darlington Railway in north-east England on 27 September 1825, which is credited as being the birth of the modern railway. An Alstom spokesperson said: "After Thursday's fantastic announcement regarding The Greatest Gathering happening at Derby Litchurch Lane in August, our ticketing provider's site struggled to cope with unprecedented demand from around the world. "Even with a queuing system in place from mid-morning, this was not enough – and it will take time to secure additional capacity. "With that in mind, we have made the decision to suspend ticket sales until we are confident that our provider's servers can handle the expected web traffic. "Rest assured, there are still thousands of tickets available across the three days and those who have already received a booking confirmation will receive their e-tickets in due course."
