in the startup world, declaring in a recent X post that founders who brag about achieving balance "are not serious about winning." The billionaire entrepreneur doubled down on his controversial stance that true startup success requires complete dedication and temporary sacrifice of personal time.
"I actually think founders have no balance,"
Hoffman
stated during a
Stanford University
guest lecture last month titled "How to be a Great Founder." He argued that successful entrepreneurs must be "all in" during their company's critical early years, warning that the startup journey is "super hard and there are lots of ways to die."
Early LinkedIn culture demanded after-hours commitment
Hoffman's philosophy isn't just theoretical—it shaped LinkedIn's early culture. In recently resurfaced comments, he revealed that during the company's startup phase, employees were expected to continue working after family dinners. "We said, sure, go home have dinner with your family. Then, after dinner with your family, open up your laptop and get back in the shared work experience and keep working," Hoffman explained in a podcast appearance.

Hoffman's defense against critics of 'toxic' work culture
Despite growing workplace wellness conversations since the pandemic, Hoffman remains unapologetic about his stance. "Work-life balance is not the start-up game," he said on the Diary of a CEO podcast, dismissing critics who label such practices as toxic.
"The people that think that's toxic don't understand the start-up game, and they're just wrong," Hoffman argued. "The game is intense. And by the way, if you don't do that, eventually, you're out of a job."
While Hoffman acknowledges this lifestyle "may only last for a couple of years," he insists that founders must remain "unbalanced" during the crucial company-building phase, keeping their minds constantly focused on business success.

The total number of active F-1 and M-1 international student SEVIS records in the US were a whopping 15.8 lakh in 2024, marking a 5.3% increase over the previous calendar year. According to a report released by the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) – 'SEVIS by the Numbers 2024', while international students hailed from more than 229 countries, this growth was substantially fuelled by students from India. Asia had the largest number of active international student records in the US, nearly 11 lakh students from this continent accounted for nearly 72% of the total foreign student population. Nearly 4.2 lakh Indian students represented an increase of 11.8% compared to 2023, while the 3.2 lakh foreign student records from China, which is the other major source country, represented a small decrease of 0.25 percent compared to 2023. Indian students constitute nearly 27% of the total foreign student population in 2024, followed by Chinese at 20%. The data in this report is drawn from the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS), a web-based system that the Department of Homeland Security uses to maintain and manage information on foreign students and exchange visitors. Thus, the numbers for March 2026 could be much lower. Indian students dominate the STEM field: While international students are eligible for a one year OPT, those from the Science, Technology, Mathematics and Engineering (STEM) fields, post their graduation, get an additional two years of work experience under the OPT program. There were 1.94 lakh OPT students with both an employment authorization document (EAD) and who reported working for an employer in 2024, compared to 1.60 lakh 2023. This marks a 21.1 percent increase from 2023 and the fourth year of consecutive growth, states the ICE-Report. In 2024, nearly 1.65 lakh international students participated in the STEM-OPT extension program. The ICE-report points out that Indian students are particularly prominent in the post-completion OPT- STEM extension program, accounting for a substantial 48.0% of participants. and 20.4% from China.

Owaisi files complaint over his deepfake video promoting investment scam
Hyderabad: AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi has lodged a complaint with the city police regarding his deepfake video circulating in social media platforms to promote an investment scam. In his complaint, Owaisi said the deceptive content created using artificial intelligence (AI) put people at risk of financial fraud. The fake video promised people an income of Rs 53,000/day on the online platform. "The video was created and uploaded with malicious content to lure innocent people and make false propaganda in my name," the Hyderabad MP said in his complaint to the Hyderabad police commissioner. In the 7.35 minute deepfake video, Owaisi's AI-generated content is accompanied by AI-generated videos of Union finance minister Nirmala Sitaraman, industrialists Mukesh Ambani, Narayana Murthy and Bollywood biggie Amitabh Bachchan. In the fake video, Owaisi speaks in English. The MP requested immediate action, including the removal of the video from all social media platforms and a thorough investigation to trace its origins. He also called for a public advisory to warn citizens about the scam.
