Missouri basketball lands top-50-ranked player in Class of 2027, before getting 1st 2026 commit
Four-star combo guard Scottie Adkinson announced Tuesday that he has committed to Dennis Gates' team, reposting the original report from On3's Joe Tipton to his social media account. Adkinson is a highly ranked in-state pledge in the Class of 2027.

That means Mizzou now has more players committed in its 2027 class than in its current recruiting cycle. The Tigers are yet to add a player in the 2026 class.
Adkinson is currently listed at 6 foot 2, 170 pounds, and plays his high school basketball at Webster Groves in St. Louis. He is playing for MOKAN 16U on the Nike EYBL circuit this summer.
The combo guard helped Webster Groves to a MSHSAA Class 5 title last season.
The rising high school junior is ranked as the No. 37 player in his class in the recruiting service 247Sports' composite national rankings. He is rated as the No. 3-overall combo guard and as the No. 2 player in the state of Missouri.

With the early nature of the commitment — about two years before Adkinson will report to MU's campus as a freshman — the Tigers currently hold the nation's No. 1-ranked class. That is, of course, to be taken with a grain of salt because most 2027 prospects are months away from announcing a decision.

Indeed, 247Sports lists only Mizzou and Iowa State as Power-conference teams with commits in the 2027 cycle.

Rankings aside, it's a promising start for Gates and his staff in a future recruiting cycle. As it stands, Adkinson is the sixth-best recruit in Mizzou history, trailing only Michael Porter Jr., Linas Kleiza, Tony Mitchell, Annor Boateng and Jontay Porter.
The Tigers are in the mix for a number of top 2026 prospects, too, including five-star power forward Toni Bryant and four-star shooting guard Aidan Chronister.

US Open prize money pool increases to a record $90 million for 2025
The US Open will see a massive increase in prize money for its winners this year. On Wednesday, the tournament announced a significant upgrade in prize money, with the New York City showcase being the first competition to reach $90 million in player compensation. Aside from increasing the prize money, the US Open also looked to lower the out-of-pocket expenses for players. Competitors will be given a $1,000 travel stipend and two rooms in the player hotel or $600 per day if they opt to stay elsewhere. Players can also avail free racquet stringing of up to five racquets per pound. These accommodations total $5 million toward player support. The US Open's prize money significantly dwarfs the other majors, with Wimbledon paying $72.7 million, the French Open paying $65.4 million and the Australian Open paying $62.9 million across all players. Before the increase, a handful of players raised concerns about their share of tournament revenues. Tennis' top players hired WTA chief executive Larry Scott to speak to the Grand Slam event organizers on their behalf. The players were fighting to receive a bigger portion of the tournament revenues. While team sports in the US give players close to 50% of the profit, tennis players generally receive between 15% and 20% of Grand Slam revenue, according to The New York Times. Additionally, the Professional Tennis Players Association, led by Novak Djokovic, has filed an antitrust lawsuit, naming the four Grand Slams as 'co-conspirators' to a 'cartel' encompassing the men's and women's tours, the International Tennis Federation, and the International Tennis Integrity Agency. The PTPA shared that it is having 'productive discussions' with the four majors, which resulted in their removal from the updated complaint filed in June. Since then, the ATP and WTA have filed to dismiss the lawsuit. The US Open will be played at the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Queens, New York, from August 24 to September 7.

Lions haven't had "any intense talks" with Aidan Hutchinson yet
The Lions want to sign star edge rusher Aidan Hutchinson to a contract extension, but they have not had any "intense talks" yet. 'Look, we'll definitely get some dialogue going soon here, but those things take time, especially the larger the deal is," General Manager Brad Holmes said Wednesday on 97.1 The Ticket. Holmes said at the Scouting Combine that the Lions were in the "planning stages" for a Hutchinson extension. Since then, edge rushers Maxx Crosby (three years, $106.5 million), Myles Garrett (four years, $160 million) and T.J. Watt (three years, $123 million) have signed extensions. Hutchinson is scheduled to make $5.575 million this year and $19.872 million in 2026 on the fifth-year option. In three seasons, he has 28.5 sacks and 65 quarterback hits. He played only five games last season before fracturing his tibia and fibula in a game against the Cowboys, but he has returned looking like himself. 'As the player, he's [Hutchinson] looked great,' Holmes said, via Ryan Mathews of 'I'm really not all that surprised just because of tracking him since college, since his early days at Michigan, he had that big injury [fractured ankle] at Michigan, and he came back, I think nobody would argue, a better player. I don't want to say it's exactly the same because the games haven't kicked off yet, but what he's showing in practice, the change of direction, the explosiveness. I mean, he's not [showing] any effects, but I'm not surprised when a guy like him has that kind of mindset.'

Myles Garrett: Shedeur Sanders works hard, takes his craft seriously
The Browns will start Shedeur Sanders at quarterback on Friday, giving him his first professional game action — albeit in the preseason. Star defensive end Myles Garrett was asked about his impressions of Sanders in his Wednesday press conference following Cleveland's joint practice with Carolina. Garrett has been spotted at times chatting with Sanders on the field between reps throughout training camp. 'I mean, he's funny, he's optimistic, lighthearted, but he works hard," Garrett said, via transcript from the team. "He takes it seriously, his craft and he's watching what the others are doing and doing it his own way, in which only he can. So, looking forward to see him on these preseason games and how he manages the offense. But I think he looks good, but all the guys look good right now. "[H]e's definitely coming to me a couple times to see what I'm thinking [when] I'm going through my rush or what the defense's mentality is.' A fifth-round pick in this year's draft, Sanders has mainly been working with the second- and third-team offense during training camp. Those are the players he'll be on the field with on Friday night, as head coach Kevin Stefanski said the plan is to rest most starters after they received most of the reps in Wednesday's joint practice.
