The Print30-04-2025

The report adds that many of these cities also witnessed double-digit growth in job applications, reflecting rising employment activity beyond major urban centres.
New Delhi [India], April 30 (ANI): Enterprises have expanded their hiring efforts into non-metro areas, with tier 2 and tier 3 cities accounting for over 40 per cent of new users, according to a report by jobs and professional networking platform Apna.
According to the 'India at Work – Q1 2025' report, small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) emerged as the largest job creators, not just in metros, but across over 900 cities.
According to the platform, it has witnessed 3.1 lakh job postings, up 26 per cent from the first quarter of 2024.
As per the report, the SMBs led the charge, posting over 2.1 lakh jobs on its platform, including 28,547 roles exclusively for women. Enterprise hiring rose sharply with companies like LIC, Paytm, Delhivery, and Flipkart creating over 1 lakh openings, expanding recruitment beyond metros and tapping into the national talent pool.
'From Delhi to Dehradun and Surat to Samastipur, we saw hiring become truly decentralised. Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities contributed over 40 per cent of new users, with many of them showing double-digit growth in job applications,' said Nirmit Parikh, Founder & CEO of Apna, reflecting on India's evolving workforce.
India's digital transformation continues to gain momentum, particularly in Tier 2 cities, where the demand for advanced tech talent is soaring.
In Q1 2025, the platform recorded a significant 65.4 per cent increase in job postings for software or web developer roles, alongside a 42.2 per cent rise in fresher applications for these positions compared to the previous year.
This surge highlights the growing need for specialised professionals in fields such as AI/ML, cybersecurity, business intelligence, and data-driven operations, as enterprises in these regions expand their digital capabilities, the report added.
While traditional tech hubs like Delhi-NCR, Bengaluru, and Mumbai maintain their dominance, cities such as Indore, Jaipur, Lucknow, Rajkot, and Warangal are rapidly emerging as key players in the tech hiring landscape, the report observed.
These cities have experienced a 30-50 per cent year-on-year growth in tech job applications, driven by increased access to engineering talent, certifications, and stronger digital infrastructure, as per the report.
The rise of remote-first work models has further enabled these cities to tap into a broader pool of tech professionals, the report added. (ANI)

Sensex slides over 800 points as global tensions resurface

Representative image (ANI) MUMBAI: Geopolitical factors, primarily talks of an imminent Israel attack on Iran, left global investors jittery, impacting those on Dalal Street on Thursday. As a result, the Sensex closed 823 points down at 81,692 points, with L&T, Infosys , and ICICI Bank contributing the most to the index's loss for the day. The day's session also left investors poorer by nearly Rs 6 lakh crore, with BSE's market capitalisation now at Rs 449.6 lakh crore, official data showed. Tariff-related uncertainties and rising crude oil prices also weighed on investors, market players said. On the NSE , Nifty closed 253 points lower at 24,888 points. According to Vinod Nair, head of research at Geojit Investments, consolidation in domestic markets is evolving into a broad-based trend, now extending to large-cap stocks. "Valuation concerns and rising oil prices, driven by West Asia tensions, are fuelling risk aversion among investors. Adding to the uncertainty, the US is considering unilateral tariff hikes on several key trading partners, with a decision expected within the next one to two weeks, ahead of an early July deadline. " In Thursday's session, foreign funds were net sellers of stocks worth Rs 3,831 crore, while domestic funds were net buyers at Rs 9,394 crore, BSE data showed. At 2.8%, retail inflation eases to over 6-year low

Representative image (Picture credit: ANI) NEW DELHI: Retail inflation plummeted to a 75-month low in May as food prices eased sharply. It is expected to moderate further in June, which may prompt the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) to hit a pause in its rate-cutting cycle after undertaking a "jumbo" cut earlier this month to support growth in the face of easing price pressures. Data released by the National Statistics Office (NSO) on Thursday showed retail inflation, as measured by the consumer price index (CPI), slumped to 2.8% in May, below the 3.2% in April. It is the lowest year-on-year inflation after February 2019 and is the fourth consecutive month when it has stayed below the RBI's 4% target. Food inflation eased to nearly 1% in May, with a sharp decline of 79 basis points during the month compared to April. Food inflation in May is the lowest since October 2021. Rural inflation was at 2.6% in May, while urban inflation was at 3.1%. The data showed vegetable prices fell 13.7% in May, while pulses and products declined 8.2% during the month, and spices fell 2.8% in May. "While till Q3 FY26, we expect CPI inflation to remain less than 4%, it may only increase in the last quarter of the current fiscal. We expect average CPI inflation for FY26 would be around 3.3%-3.5% (RBI: 3.7%) as against FY25 average of 4.6%," said Soumya Kanti Ghosh, group chief economic adviser at SBI. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like American Investor Warren Buffett Recommends: 5 Books For Turning Your Life Around Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo "Given this benign inflation expectations on the back of a 50 basis points rate cut recently in June policy, the current focus of RBI is to support the momentum in capital formation for more durable growth. We expect a pause in rate action here onwards till the Dec 2025 policy, though a lot will depend upon incoming data," said Ghosh in a note. SEBI encourages investors to use CeFCoM platform for paying advisers, research analysts

Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], June 12 (ANI): Markets regulator SEBI encourages investors to pay fees to their investment advisers and research analysts through the Centralized Fee Collection Mechanism for investment advisers and research analysts (CeFCoM). In a statement, SEBI on Thursday said CeFCoM is a secure and transparent payment ecosystem developed to ensure that investors pay fees only to registered investment advisors and research analysts. It is an optional mechanism. CeFCoM is a payment mechanism that differentiates registered investment advisers and research analysts from unregistered entities acting as investment advisers and research analysts. CeFCoM has been operationalised from October 1, 2024 and is managed by BSE Ltd in association with MF Utilities India Pvt. Ltd. In CeFCoM, investors can make payment of fees through multiple payment modes such as Net Banking, Debit Card, UPI/UPI Autopay, IMPS/NEFT/RTGS, eNACH and even through Cheque and Credit Cards. As of June 10, 2025, an amount of fees of more than Rs 5 Crore has been paid by investors through CeFCoM, SEBI said in its statement. On Wednesday, Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) has announced launching 'SEBI check' tool to validate UPI handles and registered bank accounts for secured payments by investors. The 'Validated UPI Handles' and 'SEBI Check' will enhance Investor Protection and Combat deepfakes and cyber frauds. Investors can check on 'SEBI Sheck' whether a UPI handle or bank account is registered or not before making any payment. Investors can verify the authenticity of UPI IDs either by scanning a QR code or by entering the UPI ID manually. For bank details, investors can confirm the bank details such as bank account number and Indian Financial System Code (IFSC) of a registered intermediary. The core of this new framework will be a mandatory, structured UPI address for intermediaries, composed of a username and a unique handle. Username, will be a readable name chosen by the intermediary, followed by a mandatory suffix that clearly identifies their category, for example, brk for a Stock Broker or mf for a Mutual Fund. Valid handle will feature a unique and exclusive identifier, '@valid', combined with the name of the self-certified syndicate bank. These 'validated' handles will be exclusively allocated by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) only for payment collection by SEBI-registered intermediaries. SEBI Check will be available to investors for use from October 1, 2025. SEBI Chairman Tuhin Kanta Pandey said, 'In recent years, unregistered entities have increasingly misled investors by collecting funds without authorization, often siphoning off these amounts for personal gain. This new framework is designed to proactively curb such fraudulent activities, enabling investors to easily identify legitimate SEBI-registered market intermediaries and make payments to them securely and efficiently.' To address cyber frauds, Deepfakes and issue of impersonation, SEBI says new tool will enhance investor confidence, as investors can now find out whether intermediaries who is asking for funds are registered or not. SEBI Chairman said, 'This innovative mechanism is set to significantly improve the safety and accessibility of financial transactions within the securities market by providing a verified and secure payment channel.' SEBI Chairman added that the regulator will work with online play stores to show only validated Apps for payments. (ANI)
