Algeria complete double over Rwanda in World Cup warm-ups
JOHANNESBURG: Hosts Algeria completed a double over Rwanda during the international window with a second 2–0 victory in a World Cup warm-up match in Blida on Monday.
After Berkane Redouane missed a penalty, Adil Boulbina put the Desert Foxes ahead on 40 minutes, and substitute Naoufel Khacef added a second goal after 71 minutes.
Algeria lead Mozambique by three points in their 2026 World Cup qualifying group, and victories at home to Botswana and away to Guinea in September would leave them well placed to secure a fifth appearance at the tournament.
Rwanda, who have never qualified for a World Cup, sit second in another group, five points behind South Africa with four matchdays remaining.
Uganda regained some pride after last week's 3–0 drubbing by Cameroon, drawing 1–1 with the Gambia in the Moroccan town of Berrechid.
Rogers Mato gave the Ugandans the lead on 25 minutes, before Alasana Manneh, of Scottish Premiership club Hibernian, equalised by converting a penalty in first-half stoppage time.
Sparta Prague striker Albion Rrahmani scored a hat-trick and Fisnik Asllani completed the scoring as Kosovo defeated the Comoros 4–2 in Pristina.
Saïd Bakari had given the Comorans an early lead in the first half, before Rrahmani wreaked havoc. Rafiki Saïd was the other goalscorer for the Indian Ocean side.

Wales next travel to fourth-placed Kazakhstan in September and then have a return clash with the Belgians in Cardiff in October. Sorba Thomas, who scored his first international goal for Wales on Monday, said their second-half performance showed what kind of a team they are. "Even though we lost the game, I feel like we won it in our own heads," he added. "Against countries like this, you'll be punished. I can't wait to play these when we get back to Cardiff." Belgium had been cruising at 3-0 up inside the first half-hour of the Group J match at the King Baudouin Stadium but Wales fought back to 3-3 with 20 minutes left before Kevin De Bruyne grabbed the winner two minutes from time. 'The most important thing is that we won. Psychologically it is tough to give away a three-goal lead, but we showed our mental strength,' said Garcia after Belgium's second game in their qualifying group for the 2026 finals in North America. 'We kept fighting. It is symbolic that Kevin of all people scored the winning goal." De Bruyne had been a key factor throughout, ghosting in at the back post to convert Youri Tielemans' cross for the winner. Tielemans, who was captain for the night, said relief was the primary emotion after the game. (AP pic) BUENOS AIRES : Argentina have learned to cope with Lionel Messi's absences and no longer need to rejig the line-up when the Inter Miami forward is not available, manager Lionel Scaloni said ahead of tomorrow's World Cup qualifier against Colombia. Since making his senior debut in 2005, Messi has scored 112 goals in 192 appearances for Argentina, winning the World Cup in 2022, two Copa America titles and a gold medal at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. The 37-year-old captain missed Argentina's 1-0 win over Uruguay and 4-1 thrashing of rivals Brazil in March due to injury, with Scaloni's side securing their place at the 2026 World Cup during that international break. He returned to the squad for this month's World Cup qualifiers and made a substitute appearance in Argentina's 1-0 win over Chile last week. 'The team is now in a moment where it can play in the same way with Leo (Messi) or without Leo, which used to be more complex in the past as we had to change some players,' Scaloni told reporters ahead of the match in Buenos Aires.
