Indian Army Officer's statement about deploying Air Defence Guns at Sri Harmandar Sahib shockingly untrue: Head Granthi
Amritsar, May 20 (UNI) Giani Amarjeet Singh, Additional Head Granthi of Sachkhand Sri Harmandar Sahib, has termed as shockingly untrue, the recent claim made by Indian Army Lieutenant General Sumer Ivan D'Cunha during an interview with a channel—where he stated that air defence guns were deployed at Sri Harmandar Sahib amid the recent India-Pakistan tensions.
Giani Amarjeet Singh clarified that the management of Sri Harmandar Sahib (Golden Temple) had cooperated with the district administration's guidelines regarding the city-wide blackout by switching off exterior and upper lights of the complex within the specified time frame.
However, lights at locations where the religious code of conduct (Maryada) is observed were kept on, and the sanctity of the religious place was maintained with full responsibility.
Giani Amarjeet Singh asserted that the claim made by the Army officer that the Head Granthi gave permission for the deploying air defence guns during 'Operation Sindhoor' was completely false.
He emphasised that no such permission was ever granted, nor was any such deployment allowed at this sacred site.
He reiterated that the daily religious practices at Sri Darbar Sahib, the Langar of Guru Ramdas Ji, places of Sri Akhand Path Sahib, and other related gurdwaras were conducted as per strict protocols.
He further said that despite the tense situation in recent days, the full religious code of conduct continued at Sri Harmandar Sahib with dedication and discipline.
Giani Amarjeet Singh made it clear that no lights were turned off at any religious site where Maryada was being observed, even during the blackout. He expressed surprise and concern over why such a statement was made by the Army officer and asserted confidently that no permission for installing guns was ever given.
Regarding the same statement by the Army officer, the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) President Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami also said that while the administration contacted them only about switching off the lights during the blackout, they fully cooperated in the interest of administrative responsibility while maintaining the sanctity of the ongoing Maryada.
The SGPC president added that however, there was no contact from any Army official regarding the installation of air defence guns at Sri Harmandar Sahib.
He said that based on consultation with Additional Head Granthi Giani Amarjeet Singh, only the outer lights were turned off following the district administration's guidelines.
Advocate Dhami pointed out that even during the blackout, large numbers of devotees continued to visit and do Sewa (voluntary service) at Sri Harmandar Sahib, and had there been any such event like gun deployment, the Sangat (congregation) would certainly have noticed and seen it.
He expressed surprise that an Army officer would propagate such a claim and demanded that the Government of India clarify why such statements were being issued by Army officials.
Adv. Dhami acknowledged the commendable role played by the Army and the country during the tense circumstances, but emphasised that the said statement days after the military events was shockingly untrue.
As SGPC President, Advocate Dhami clearly stated that no permission was ever granted for the deployment of guns.
Sri Harmandar Sahib's Head Granthi, Giani Raghbir Singh, also clarified that although he was on
an international visit during the Army operation, there was no communication with him regarding any gun deployment, nor did any such incident occur at Sri Darbar Sahib. He too described the Army officer's statement as shockingly untrue.

Uttarakhand CM Dhami participate in 300th birth anniversary program of Ahilyabai Holkar
Haridwar (Uttarakhand) [India], June 8 (ANI): Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami participated in the Tricentenary Birth Anniversary program of Lokmata Ahilyabai Holkar, organised by Dhangar Samaj in Haridwar. On this occasion, the Chief Minister announced that the Gram Sabha of Salempur will be named after Lokmata Ahilyabai Holkar, on the proposal and with no objection. CM Dhami, while paying homage to Lokmata Punyashlok Ahilyabai Holkar, said that the Pal-Dhangar society has been the main basis of India's livestock-based economy since ancient times. 'Not only did she contribute significantly economically to the progress and development of the country, but she has also played an important role in preserving and advancing our rich cultural heritage. Even today, this society is making an important contribution in the creation of a self-reliant India on the strength of its hard work, dedication and self-respect,' he said. The Chief Minister said that Lokmata Ahilyabai Holkar is such a pious soul of Indian history who presented the best example of women's power. Lokmata Ahilyabai Holkar's entire life was dedicated to the re-establishment of Sanatan life values and Indian culture. 'She rebuilt temples and ghats in Kashi Vishwanath, Somnath, Dwarka, Rameshwaram, Ayodhya and Mathura as well as Badrinath, Kedarnath and Haridwar of our Devbhoomi. Rani Ahilyabai Holkar also presented such a unique example of women empowerment in that period, which was difficult to even imagine at that time,' CM Dhami said. Chief Minister said, 'For hundreds of years, foreign invaders and then even after independence, governments suffering from the mentality of slavery did not give the contribution of our great personalities the respect they really deserved. A well-planned conspiracy was hatched to deprive our young generation of their glorious history.' The Chief Minister said that today, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India has entered the Amritkaal of the renaissance of its cultural consciousness. 'Our glorious history, the contribution of great national heroes and cultural heritage, which were neglected for years, are not only being restored today, but are also being made the basis of national consciousness. Today, the flag of our Sanatan culture is flying proudly all over the world and India is rapidly moving towards becoming a world leader again by connecting with its roots. Today, whether it is the construction of a grand Ram temple, reconstruction of Badrinath and Kedarnath shrines, expansion of Baba Vishwanath's corridor or the construction of Mahakal Lok,' he said. The Chief Minister said that unprecedented work is also being done in the direction of women's empowerment under the Prime Minister's leadership. 'Whether it is approving 33 percent reservation for women in Parliament and Legislative Assemblies, giving priority to the education and safety of daughters through the Beti Bachao-Beti Padhao campaign, freeing women from the smoke of the stove through the Ujjwala Yojana, making women self-reliant through the Lakhpati Didi Yojana or ending the evil practice of triple talaq. Through many such decisions, PM Modi has worked to ensure the respect of the mother power,' CM Dhami said. The Chief Minister said that the state government is also fully committed to preserving the cultural values and demography of Devbhoomi Uttarakhand. 'We have taken strict action against hateful mindsets like land jihad, love jihad and spit jihad in the state. Strict anti-riot and anti-conversion laws have also been implemented in the state. We are working with determination with the policy of 'zero tolerance' to end corruption in the state,' he said. Chief Minister Dhami said that earlier, there was a perception that action was taken only against small employees found involved in corruption, but today, in the state, not only small fish but also corrupt crocodiles are being caught. 'Recently, two IAS and one PCS officers have been suspended in the Haridwar land scam,' he added. (ANI)

Israel reveals tunnel under Gaza hospital, says Mohammed Sinwar's body found there
The Israeli Army said on Sunday (June 8, 2025) it had retrieved the body of Hamas's military chief Mohammed Sinwar in an underground tunnel beneath a hospital in southern Gaza, following a targeted operation last month. Another senior Hamas leader, Mohammad Shabana, commander of the Rafah Brigade, was also found dead at the scene along with a number of other militants, who are still being identified, said IDF spokesperson, Brigadier General Effie Defrin. Israeli forces gave a small group of foreign reporters a tour of the tunnel that had been uncovered beneath the European Hospital in Khan Younis, which Brig. Gen. Defrin said was a major command and control compound for Hamas. "This is another example of the cynical use by Hamas, using civilians as human shields, using civilian infrastructure, hospitals, again and again," said Brig. Gen. Defrin. "We found underneath the hospital, right under the emergency room, a compound of a few rooms. In one of them we found, we killed Mohammed Sinwar," he said. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced Sinwar's death last month, but Brig. Gen. Defrin said they now had his DNA which proved beyond doubt it was him. Hamas has not commented on reports of the death of either Sinwar or Shabana. Sinwar was the younger brother of Yahya Sinwar, the Palestinian militant group's deceased leader and mastermind of the October 2023 attack on Israel that killed 1,200 people according to Israeli tallies, and which triggered the Israeli invasion of Gaza. Shabana was one of Hamas's most senior and battle-hardened commanders in southern Gaza. He played a central role in constructing the network of tunnels under the southern city of Rafah, which were used for ambushes and cross-border raids. Destruction The drive to Khan Younis in Israeli military vehicles showed widespread devastation, with countless buildings lying in ruins, and piles of rubble collected at the roadside. The Israeli military has raided or besieged numerous hospitals during the war, alleging that Hamas uses them to conceal fighters and orchestrate operations — a charge Hamas has repeatedly denied. While Israel has presented evidence in certain cases, some of its assertions remain unverified. Brig. Gen. Defrin said the Army had carefully planned the strike near the European Hospital in order not to damage it. A large trench dug in front of the Emergency Room entrance led down to a hole in the claustrophobic, concrete tunnel, that was used as a hideaway by Hamas fighters, the Army said. During the search of the site, Israeli forces recovered weapon stockpiles, ammunition, cash and documents that are now being reviewed for intelligence value. "We will dismantle Hamas because we cannot live with this terror organisation right in our backyard, right across our border," Brig. Gen. Defrin said. More than 54,000 Palestinians have died during the ongoing Israeli assault, according to Gaza health authorities. The U.N. has warned that most of Gaza's 2.3 million population is at risk of famine.

Ukrainian President Zelenskyy hoping for meeting with President Trump on G7 sidelines
Kyiv/Washington, June 7 (UNI) Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is working to arrange a meeting with US President Donald Trump on the sidelines of the Group of Seven summit in Canada next week, Zelenskyy's Chief of Staff Andriy Yermak said. One of the aims of a visit to Washington earlier this week by a delegation from Kyiv was to prepare for a potential Trump-Zelenskyy meeting at the G7 gathering set for June 15-17 in Kananaskis, Alberta, Yermak said on a national broadcast late Friday. 'Our visit was part of the preparation, including for what I believe will be a meeting between President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and President Trump on the sidelines of the G7 summit in Canada, which is taking place in 10 days' time,' Yermak said. 'This was a key step in preparing for this conversation,' Politico reported. The Ukrainian delegation also held discussions in Washington on continuing military aid to Ukraine as it defends itself from Russia, Yermak said. 'There is a shared understanding on this issue; we need to keep working,' Yermak said. 'President Zelenskyy clearly outlined our position: Under the signed agreement on economic cooperation, we are also ready to buy some of the equipment, especially missile defense systems, etc.,' Yermak said. The Ukrainian visit came as US lawmakers are weighing sweeping sanction measures aimed at Russia and its biggest energy customers. The delegation met with Republican Senator Lindsey Graham and Democrat Senator Richard Blumenthal, who are pushing for a bipartisan bill in the US Senate that would impose steep tariffs on countries that buy Russian energy resources. 'We hope this new sanctions package will be adopted,' Yermak said. 'But even the process that should begin in the Senate next week will be a very important signal — because everyone understands what it's about. It's quite clearly about reducing Russia's revenues from energy exports, primarily oil,' he said. Russia hit Ukraine's eastern city of Kharkiv on Saturday with a large barrage of drones and missiles, killing at least three people and wounding 21 others, local officials said. Zelenskyy, meanwhile, pushed back against Trump's characterization of the war between Russia and Ukraine as like 'two young children fighting like crazy.' 'We are not kids with Putin at the playground in the park. He is a murderer who came to this park to kill the kids,' Zelenskyy said in an interview with the ABC program 'This Week with George Stephanopoulos.' UNI RN
