Neighbours legend sparks rumours he's joining UK soap after bosses savagely axed show for a second time

The Sun25-07-2025
NEIGHBOURS legend Alan Fletcher has revealed he wants to land a TV role in the UK and would love to "gatecrash" EastEnders.
The 68-year-old Aussie soap veteran is currently focused on his music career and a 34-date UK and Ireland tour.

However, he's also on the hunt for a UK agent that can bag him a role on the box on our shores after filming his final Neighbours scenes.
The long-running soap has come to an end after Amazon MGM Studios decided against making more episodes beyond 2025.
Speaking exclusively to The Sun, Alan says: "Like a lot of Aussie actors, I would crave to come and work in the UK. And I'm looking to try and find myself a UK agent because I think the UK makes some of the best television in the world.
"I think in terms of comedy, which I love to be involved in, the Brits are like the Australians. We do understand satire and so there's incredibly sharp and witty television made here.
"And in terms of drama, the thing I really love about being in the UK is seeing how older actors, and I put myself in that bracket now, how older actors really get a good run on television and film. And some of the best UK actors, of course, are the older contingents."
Alan previously had a cameo in Albert Square in 2022 when he popped into the Bridge Street café and asked for a taxi.
Kellie Bright's starstruck Linda Carter was lamenting Neighbours coming to an end (it was previously shelved in 2022) when Alan stepped in.
Regarding a possible return to the show, Alan says: "That would be enormous fun as well, just to sort of gatecrash EastEnders. I actually went in and filmed a little skit of them a few years ago, which was enormous fun. Yeah, so there's all sorts of doors opening."
But for now music takes precedence.
He explains: "Now that I can dedicate myself to music, it takes an enormous amount of time to write and produce and record music and then to plan tours and to get out on the road. So, you know, it's an exhausting job."
"I mean, this tour I'm on now around the UK, this is 34 venues. It's the length and breadth of the country. The logistics alone are incredible to plan, not to mention ticket selling.
"So it's a very testing experience, and it's one I embrace and want to do more of."
The Karl Kennedy star is on the promo trail for his latest single, Back To School, a poignant ballad on how to nurture a loving relationship.
"The title was about what I've learnt in studying philosophy, that love is something you can't take for granted, you have to really look at it," says Alan.
"I mean, that's a bit of a cliche, but a lot of people don't spend the time. So it's really saying, let's get back to school and learn how to love.
"It's a very musical, laid-back track, and it gets a great reaction from people."
Both Alan and wife Jennifer went back to school, as it were, when they attended a lecture on love by philosopher Alain de Botton that helped to improve their own relationship.
"It was quite transformative for us, because it reminds us that perfect love is a bit of an 18th century creation," says Alan. "And in reality, we all love each other's flaws, rather than trying to change each other.
"And once we heard that, and kind of accepted that, and went, 'yes, absolutely, that's what it is'. So now if either one of us in the relationship do something that the other one would normally think is annoying or troublesome, now we look at it and go, 'oh, it's adorable that you do that'.

"So just accepting that we are who we are, and trying to change people, mold them to be the perfect human being, is a waste of time."
At the tail end of last year Alan also released a classic slice of Americana in Tell 'Em, a duet with Jennifer that tells the tale of lost love.
"It really is the first cut, the deepest I suppose, that notion of the first relationship you have and how it kind of never leaves you, even though you break up and move on with your life and you have other loves, there's some little tiny part of you that's still wishes that somehow you've been able to work it out all those years ago.
"So essentially just saying, look, I know we'll never be together, but I just think of you all the time, or in flashes."
Both tracks will be joining Alan on his tour which is taking place now and runs until September.

Lorraine Stanley: 'I used weight loss jabs to lose 6.5st but one shock changed my mind'

Lorraine Stanley opens up about her incredible 6 and a half stone weight loss as she prepares to walk down the aisle with her partner of 12 years Mark Perez - and returning to Albert Square When OK! catches up with former EastEnders actress Lorraine Stanley at a glitzy London ball, she couldn't look more different to Karen Taylor, the lovable yet perpetually dishevelled mum she played on the BBC soap from 2017 to 2024. Not only is the 49-year-old looking über-glamorous as we chat at the Paul Strank Charitable Trust Summer Party – she's wearing a white sparkly dress which she proudly declares was purchased on Vinted – she's barely recognisable, having lost 6½st over two years. ‌ Lorraine, who has nine-year-old daughter Nancy with her fiancé Mark Perez, shares her excitement about tying the knot this month after a two-year engagement, the secrets behind her incredible weight loss and why she's happy, for now, to be her daughter's personal taxi service… ‌ ‌ Hi, Lorraine! We hear you're getting married later this month… I am indeed. I'm getting married to my partner in a ceremony local to where we live in Hertfordshire. It's going to be low-key. From my EastEnders gang, Danny Walters is coming. I wanted them all to come, but we're just having a small, intimate wedding at a church, then a pub with a tepee and barbecue. Will Nancy have a special part to play? ‌ She's the one wearing the big white wedding dress – well, the flower girl dress. Mine's modest, really. But I'm so excited. Mark and I have been together for 12 years. So why tie the knot now? We're just in a really good place. You know, every couple goes through their ups and downs, but it feels right, we're happy. Nancy wanted us to get married, I wanted his surname – I know some women don't want that but I do. I want to be Mrs Perez. I've been abroad a few times with Nancy and was asked if she's my daughter as we have different surnames on our passports. But it's not just practicalities, it's love. ‌ Why do you and Mark work so well together? We've got an understanding, we respect each other. We give each other space, we've got our own lives. He's the best father. He's in marketing, so nothing to do with my world, though I think he could be an actor – he can be quite dramatic at times! ‌ You're 50 next year. How do you feel? I'm feeling great. I looked 20 years older when I was bigger. I certainly felt it anyway. I won't have a big showbiz bash. We might go to Disney World Florida. We'll see. You look incredible. Tell us about the transformation… ‌ I've lost 6½st. I weigh 8st now. If you look at my little wrists and ankles, this is the weight I should have been. I should be a thin person. And I always was, until I hit my late twenties. How did you lose the weight? I'm not going to lie, nor am I promoting it, but I had weight-loss surgery two years ago. I had a gastric sleeve. I went to Harley Street. I didn't go to a clinic in Turkey or anything. In saying that, I've had friends who've gone to Turkey and had great experiences, but I didn't trust that process. So, yeah, I went to a London clinic, paid an awful lot of money and had it done. It's hands-down the best thing I've ever done – both for me and for my family. ‌ I can play with my daughter. I used to be so big I couldn't chase her up the road. I was missing out on so much – even playing a bit of football with her outside. It's changed everything. It's pretty drastic surgery. What was the big lightbulb moment? I was at home watching an episode of EastEnders I was in and I could barely look at myself. The person on screen was unrecognisable to me. I know TV puts a stone on you, but… so yes, there was an element of vanity, but it was also me wanting to change things for my daughter and our future. ‌ Did you try any weight-loss jabs before opting for surgery? Yeah, I'd tried Wegovy. I have friends on different weight-loss jabs and they work for them. I'm not against them, but for whatever reason I feel like I got immune to them. It got to the point where I was injecting myself and eating at the same time. I was thinking, 'What the hell are you doing?' So I decided that was it, time to get this surgery booked. ‌ Do you feel like a new woman? Where do I start? I'm healthier, I'm fitter and it's changed my mindset for the better. I still enjoy a square or two of chocolate, but everything's in small portions. I can eat what I want, just smaller amounts of it. It has been hard, though. You've got to work at your portions. You don't want to overeat as you can stretch the gastric band. And you don't want to do that as you've paid good money for it. But for me – and this is totally personal – it's the best thing I could have done. ‌ Would you go back on EastEnders? Maybe – they didn't kill me off. But right now, I wouldn't. I'm enjoying Nancy. On EastEnders, I missed a lot of milestones. Now I'm like her personal taxi driver for skateboarding, piano lessons – and I love it. I've gone for a few auditions. I haven't got anything yet, but I will. And if I don't, I don't mind that either. I'm so happy being a mum. Would you go on any of the big reality TV shows? If the money was amazing, maybe. But it's not my thing. I love acting, theatre especially, so I want to try and keep on that path. I'd love a role at the National Theatre. That's where I started my career, so it would be a nice full-circle moment.

Isla Fisher opens up about her 'tough' divorce from Sacha Baron Cohen: 'I'm trying to remind myself of my new identity'

Isla Fisher has spoken out about the 'tough' end of her decade-long marriage to Sacha Baron Cohen. The Aussie actress, 49, and Borat creator, 53, who share three children, split at the end of 2023 after 14 years of marriage. The Wedding Crashers star has now told Harper's Bazaar she suffered through 'a tough couple of years' amid their divorce, but is excited for what's to come. 'I've had a tough couple of years, but I'm making it through. I'm really excited for the next chapter,' she told the publication. 'I'm refocusing on my career, because previously I was very much focused on my kids, which I still am... [They're] my true love. But I'm enjoying tackling work again.' From A-list scandals and red carpet mishaps to exclusive pictures and viral moments, subscribe to the DailyMail's new showbiz newsletter to stay in the loop. Isla added that, aside from refocusing on her career, she was also re-establishing her identity outside of her marriage to Sacha. 'I'm trying to remind myself of my new identity as somebody outside of a partnership and to stay as buoyant as possible,' she said. It was a similar sentiment the former Home and Away star shared with Stellar in March. 'I definitely am trying to focus more on myself professionally, something that was always on the back burner,' she continued. 'I always put motherhood first but everyone's a lot older now. 'Obviously my kids are always going to come first—every parent feels that way—but it is nice to go back to work and feel of value or be able to contribute at least to the arts in a way that's meaningful to me.' Isla certainly hasn't been resting on her laurels, having recently starred in the likes of the supernatural Stan series Wolf Like Me and such big-screen fare as Dog Man, and Bridget Jones: Mad About The Boy. She also has five projects in post-production, according to IMDB, including the third instalment of the magic-tinged heist franchise Now You See Me, and Spa Weekend, which is currently in production on the Gold Coast. Isla and Sacha revealed in a joint statement in April 2024 they had 'quietly separated' the year before. 'After a long tennis match lasting over 20 years, we are finally putting our racquets down,' they told fans. Discussing the split with the Sunday Times, Isla said: 'It's the most difficult thing that I've been through and I've learnt so much about myself in the process. 'I never imagined my family being separated but we are committed and loving parents.' Isla explained her own parents separated when she was nine-years-old and admitted their peaceful arrangement was what she now strives for.

Rihanna 'set to tour again after cancelling London dates' as she prepares to welcome third child

Rihanna is reportedly set to tour again after cancelling a string of dates in London which were meant to take place this summer. The singer, 37, who is currently preparing to welcome her third child with her partner ASAP Rocky, has now rearranged the shows. According to reports, she had been rumoured to be planning a six-concert residency in London in July to mark her return to music. It was later reported that Rihanna pulled out of the proposed gigs at West Ham's stadium in a secret meeting last week in March, just before they were set to be publicly confirmed. The tour is now set to be back on for 2026, The Sun reports, which will mark her first UK shows since 2016. A source told the newspaper: 'But Rihanna and her team are now confident they can make it work for next year.' They added: 'The dates will also coincide with the tenth anniversary of [her last album] Anti, and fans can expect to hear her new music too. 'Rihanna might be pregnant with her third baby but she is the ultimate working mum and has the support of her partner ASAP Rocky.' Daily Mail has contacted Rihanna's representatives for comment. Music insiders previously claimed to The Telegraph that Rihanna was lining up shows at London Stadium for July 4 and 5, with other possible concerts set for July 8, 9, 11 and 12. A second source told the publication that her promoters were 'holding' the arena - formerly the Olympic Stadium - for her, with preparations in the advance planning stages. The run of concerts would've been Rihanna's first in almost a decade, after the release of her last album Anti in 2016. The Umbrella hitmaker finally confirmed her ninth album was on its way in an interview with Harper's Bazaar in February. She sent fans wild as she teased she's 'cracked the code' on her 'next body of work' and that it 'feels right.' Rihanna told the outlet: 'This time away from from music needs to count for the next thing everyone hears. It has to matter. I have to show them it was worth the wait.' The nine-time Grammy winner revealed her pregnancy news when she showed off her baby bump at the Met Gala back in May. Just last week, she dished on motherhood as she is expecting her third baby. She told Access Hollywood that her 'two princes' RZA and Riot have a ton of energy that wear her out when she attended the Smurfs premiere in Los Angeles. She is the voice actor for Smurfette in the new animated musical-comedy film and brought along her kids for the red carpet event ahead of the movie's release. It comes just days after the singer attended her father's funeral in her native country of Barbados - after he passed away at the age of 70 on May 30 following a battle with pancreatic cancer and accompanying complications. During an interview with Extra at the Smurfs premiere, she opened up about her little ones joining her at the screening. 'I'm excited for tonight. Tonight is going to be fun. We get to watch the movie together for the first time. I get to watch it in its full completion. So, that should be interesting,' she expressed.
