The 20-year-old Scourton was unable to fly and was driven back to Charlotte, accompanied by family members and team training staffers.
'It was a very physical play,' Canale said of the injury. 'It was presenting like a heat exhaustion, because he was having trouble breathing.

'He was getting tired and all that, so we kind of cooled him down. We couldn't get him to respond good enough to where we felt comfortable about putting him back into practice.'
According to Canales, Scourton is considered week-to-week.

Panthers signing QB Bryce Perkins after Andy Dalton injury
In need of depth at quarterback, the Carolina Panthers intend to sign Bryce Perkins, according to reports. The 2025 United Football League MVP will join the Panthers after backup QB Andy Dalton exited Saturday's preseason game with a right elbow sprain. That left Jack Plummer as the only quarterback option behind starter Bryce Young. The 6-foot-3, 214-pound Perkins was named the UFL MVP and Offensive Player of the Year this past season, passing for 1,342 yards and nine touchdowns (two interceptions) while leading the Michigan Panthers to the league championship. In the title game, he threw for 338 yards and four touchdowns. Undrafted out of Virginia in 2020, Perkins spent three seasons with the Los Angeles Rams. His only game time came in 2022, when he appeared in five games and went 19-for-34 for 161 yards and a touchdown against two interceptions. He also rushed for 90 yards. Carolina (0-2) wraps up its preseason schedule on Thursday when the Panthers host the Pittsburgh Steelers. Dalton, who enters his third year with Carolina and 15th year in the league, was expected to undergo further testing on Sunday to determine the severity of the injury. In his first two seasons with the Panthers, Dalton appeared in nine games, passing for 1,350 yards and nine touchdowns as the backup QB. --Field Level Media Field Level Media 2025 - All Rights Reserved

Panthers signing reigning UFL MVP after injury to QB Andy Dalton
The Carolina Panthers are adding another Bryce to their quarterback room. As first reported by ESPN senior NFL insider Adam Schefter on Sunday, the Panthers plan on signing quarterback Bryce Perkins. The move comes after yesterday's right elbow injury to backup Andy Dalton, who made an early exit from the 20-3 loss to the Houston Texans. Perkins, a University of Virginia standout, first broke into the NFL as an undrafted free agent with the Los Angeles Rams in 2020. He'd go on to appear in five games during the 2022 campaign, where he completed 19 of his 34 passing attempts for 161 yards, a touchdown and two interceptions. The 6-foot-2, 215-pounder has played the last two years with the United Football League's Michigan Panthers. He was named the league's Most Valuable Player and Offensive Player of the Year in 2025—as he passed for 1,342 yards and scored 14 total touchdowns (five rushing) over seven outings. Panthers head coach Dave Canales told reporters on Saturday that he does not plan on playing his starters in the team's preseason finale against the Pittsburgh Steelers this week. That plan, along with Dalton's injury, could leave Carolina with just Perkins and Jack Plummer at the quarterback position on Thursday. Panthers to sign UFL MVP Bryce Perkins
Andy Dalton left Saturday's game with an elbow injury, so the Panthers are adding a quarterback to the roster for the final week of the preseason. The Panthers cited multiple reports that they plan to sign 2025 UFL MVP Bryce Perkins. There's no word on any corresponding move at this point. Perkins won the MVP and offensive player of the year awards for his play with the Michigan Panthers this spring. Perkins threw for 1,342 yards and nine touchdowns while rushing for 269 yards and five scores. He was also with the team in 2024. Perkins spent three seasons with the Rams after going undrafted in 2022. He played in five games and made one start during the 2022 season. With Dalton injured, Jack Plummer was the only healthy quarterback behind Bryce Young in Carolina. The Panthers do not plan to play their starters against the Steelers this week, so Perkins was needed as another available body in the coming days.
