Whisky experts release Father's Day malt with less than 500 bottles available
A limited-edition dram has been launched in honour of the annual holiday.
A whisky retailer has launched a whisky created exclusively for Father's Day. Less than 500 bottles of the limited-edition release are available.
June 15 marks Father's Day in Scotland and across the world. The annual holiday is dedicated to celebrating fathers and fatherhood.
To help celebrate, Master of Malt has launched a "thoughtful" limited-edition whisky created exclusively for Father's Day. The product carries a Father's Day label, intended to be given as a gift for the holiday.
The release, named Father of Malt, is described as "a rich and peaty" 16-year-old single malt. It comes from the Caol Ila distillery on the isle of Islay, which is often referred to as Scotland's 'whisky island'.
The Father of Malt was distilled in December 2008, before spending 16 years maturing in an oloroso sherry wood. Priced at £79.95, only 491 bottles of the whisky are available from Master of Malt.
On the nose, the Father of Malt features notes of salted peanuts, baked apple, vanilla, toffee, shortbread, porridge, and smoked tea. Meanwhile, tasting notes include peat smoke, dried red fruits, peppercorn, hibiscus, cracked pepper, and Kola Cubes.
Master of Malt states: "Our very own 2025 Father's Day Reserve, and it's a belter of a single malt from Caol Ila. Distilled in December 2008, the whisky spent 16 years maturing in an oloroso sherry hogshead before we earmarked it for this special Father of Malt edition, cracking open the cask to release a total of 491 bottles.
"That's 491 very happy Dads. If it gets to them before everyone else, that is.
"It's one supremely gluggable dram."
Meanwhile, Master of Malt has released a Father's Day Bourbon. Also carrying a Father's Day label, it has been described a "soft five-year-old high-wheat blend".
The Father's Day Bourbon is a small-batch release, and is priced at £39.95. It is a custom blend from a number of top American distillers, with no component being less than five years old.
Among the nose notes of the bourbon are maple syrup, pancakes, butter popcorn, and chewy toffee. Meanwhile, caramel, vanilla, and chocolate are some of the tasting notes.
Both of the whiskies were developed by Sam Simmons from Master of Malt. Simmons, who is known as 'Dr Whisky' according to Master of Malt, has previously served as a global brand ambassador for "some of the industry's biggest names".
Meanwhile, the Daily Record recently shared a roundup of some of the best whiskies to buy for Father's Day. Among the malts included were the Dad's Dram Blended Malt and the Glenmorangie X, which can be purchased from The Whisky Exchange and The Whisky Shop for £39.95 and £35 respectively.
Master of Malt is among the UK's leading online spirits retailers, featuring a curated selection of whiskies, craft spirits, and exclusive bottlings. The company aims to make spirits accessible for both seasoned connoisseurs and newcomers.

Firm at centre of NHS corruption scandal moves business to new company as directors jailed
Four men were jailed for a total of 29 years following a major investigation into the award of lucrative NHS contracts to Ayrshire-based telecommunications firm, Oricom. The firm at the centre of a £6m NHS corruption scandal is set to move its business to a new company linked to its jailed directors. Four men found guilty following a major investigation into the award of lucrative NHS contracts to an Ayrshire-based telecommunications firm were jailed for a total of 29 years on Thursday. Oricom directors Adam Sharoudi, 41, and Gavin Brown, 48, secured major deals with the illegal help of NHS telecoms chiefs Alan Hush, 68, and 60 year-old Gavin Cox. The probe was first revealed by the Daily Record after an NHS counter fraud team swooped on Oricom's offices in Irvine in 2015. Now a letter to customers from a current Oricom boss has revealed the service is to be managed by a company called Freestyle Communications Limited. Service Delivery Director David Ross said the change, set to take place from June 19, was 'part of a long-term plan to improve how we deliver your service'. Convicted directors Brown and Sharoudi were named on Companies House as having 'significant control' of Freestyle in May 2023, but filed a cessation in August last year. Prosecutors proved, during a mammoth three-month trial, that contracts for the supply and maintenance of telecoms equipment by Oricom broke rules on financial wrongdoing in the tendering process. Hush was jailed for eight years after being found guilty of nine charges. Cox was locked up for six years for the two jurors convicted him of. Sharoudi was also handed an eight year term having been convicted of seven charges. Brown was jailed for seven years for a total of six. Lord Arthurson said: "The reach and character of the corruption and, in particular, the corrupt relationship engaged by all of you was on a grand scale.' Hush was the telecommunications manager at NHS Lothian and then NHS Scotland video conferencing manager. Cox held the post of head of IT and infrastructure at NHS Lanarkshire. The pair abused their powers as 'public servants' to push deals through. One contract alone was worth £3.1m. In return, Hush got £18,231 of cash bungs and gifts, Cox a total of more than £70,000. All four men had denied the charges, spanning between 2010 and 2015, included bribery, corruption, fraud, theft as well as others under the Proceeds of Crime Act. In Oricom's letter to customers, Ross said the firm was 'moving to a dedicated telecoms management company focused solely on service delivery and support'. He said: 'Your contract terms, pricing, and service all remain unchanged. You'll continue to receive uninterrupted service. You'll still have access to the same support team under the new structure. By moving your account to Freestyle Communications, we're simplifying operations and placing service management in the hands of a team 100% focused on telecoms. 'Freestyle Communications is part of the same group and is fully regulated by Ofcom.' Current directors of Freestyle are named as Ross, Stephanie Brown and Simon Agnew. Brown and Sharoudi resigned as directors of Oricom earlier this month, following their convictions at the High Court in Glasgow. They have also been banned from being a company director for the next 10 years and will face proceeds of crime proceedings. Over 250 witnesses were also interviewed and tens of thousands of text messages and emails reviewed as part of the probe. Gordon Young, Head of NHS Scotland Counter Fraud Services it was a 'landmark conviction' of 'individuals who sought to exploit the NHS for personal gain'. We approached Oricom for comment.

Scots OnlyFans teacher who sold x-rated pics slams 'Victorian values' of education bosses
Kirsty Buchan faces being struck off following an educational watchdog hearing next week. A teacher who was sacked for selling X-rated photos online has blasted education bosses for their 'Victorian values'. The General Teaching Council (GTCS) for Scotland has scheduled a hearing that may ban Kirsty Buchan from the classroom. But the physics teacher has told the education bosses she is too busy to attend – as she is doing a photo-shoot for her OnlyFans site. She said: 'The way I've been treated in the school and the education system has been very one-sided and unfair. 'They have applied Victorian values to behaviour that is socially acceptable in 2025 and written it up as though I am suffering from poor morality. The Daily Record interviewed Kirsty in 2022 after it emerged she was running the saucy sideline and made £60,000 in a month. Pupils at Bannerman High in Baillieston, Glasgow, got wind of the full-frontal content and some parents were furious. But despite accepting a no-show at her GTCS hearing will probably mean being struck off, Kirsty is unrepentant. She said: 'The reality is that I live my life according to proper values. I'm loyal and decent and I treat people properly. And I know I was a very good teacher because I really cared about the kids I taught. 'I'd have loved to have carried on with both but that was taken away from me. They can do what they like at the GTCS but I won't be there.' Kirsty, of Coatbridge, said she was forced to step away from the modelling site after various setbacks, including the loss of a close family member. She added: 'I put a few things to the side to concentrate on being a mum and dealing with family things. But I am now up and running and I have hundreds of fans who are signed to my account and I am back on the modelling beat. I have been doing a range of new photos and videos and I'm looking forward to building up my portfolio.' Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community! It was revealed earlier this week the ex-teacher – who uses the handle Jessica Jackrabbitx on the site – faces a hearing with the GTCS on Monday, where she is charged with three offences. Kirsty, 34, is accused of bringing the profession into disrepute by selling the photos. The GTCS says she failed to ensure they could not be accessed by under-18s without the need to log in to the X-rated subscription service. She is also being carpeted for speaking to the Record, which caused a huge stir at the time, with pupils coming forward to say such modelling should be acceptable in 2025. In the interview, Kirsty told how her wages were docked by the school for time off she took off to look after her son. In her first month – after the Record story – she made £60,000, which is more than a year's wages as a physics teacher. Her employer, Glasgow City Council, referred her case to the GTCS. Kirsty said: 'I've already lost my job but they are determined to drag me through this hearing to ensure I can never teach again. It really just makes me feel sad, to give me a life ban and make out that I'm a bad teacher when opposite is true. 'It's just a lot of backward thinking, Victorian attitude rubbish and it says more about the GTCS and Glasgow City Council than it does about me.' Kirsty added: 'I loved the job and I loved the pupils, many of whom I'm still in touch with. I have also still been able to help a few younger kids out with their maths homework, just as a favour, and that gives me a buzz.' Kirsty believes the GTCS case is vindictive. She said: 'People just need to get over it. What I do is not hurting anyone.' The GTCS claims her actions were 'lacking in integrity', failed to take steps to stop her being identified and risked bringing the profession into disrepute. It is said she is unfit to teach. The GTCS hearing will be online, last up to three days and evidence will be led by lawyers even if Kirsty does not turn up. A panel could issue a reprimand and/or apply conditions to her work. The ultimate sanction would be the removal of her name from the teaching register.

Freddy Brazier announces he's going to rehab to 'get clean' after sad fallout with dad
Freddy Brazier, 20, has revealed he's going to rehab in Spain to get clean after battling a smoking addiction since age 12 Freddy Brazier has announced he is heading to rehab in Spain as he battles a long-standing addiction. The 20-year-old, youngest son of Jeff Brazier and the late Jade Goody, revealed he has been addicted to smoking since the age of 12 and is now taking steps to 'get clean.' The move follows reports of a strained relationship with his father Jeff, leading Freddy to leave the family home and move in with his maternal grandmother, Jackiey Budden, Mirror reports. On Instagram, Freddy opened up about his decision to seek treatment, saying: "I've decided that I will be cutting down and I want to go to Rehab In Marbs as I feel if I'm in England I won't take getting clean seriously." He described smoking as a "bad coping mechanism that turned into an addiction, something I relied on and something that made me feel sane and some what OK." Yet now, Freddy is determined to turn his life around. "I've found a boxing club and a rehabilitation centre. Ive found someone I want to get to know and I'm happy. I got a good bunch of friends and I [want to] get out and enjoy myself." His goal is clear. "I want to be clean so I can live happily and have healthy relationships with people and be there for all of my family rather then feeling like I'm in the middle and have to choose a side." Freddy also reflected on his struggle to feel loved, admitting, "I haven't been able to feel loved properly as I have never loved myself and it starts now." He hopes to embrace a new chapter, sharing: "I want to play football and take up boxing I want to be happy and be in a healthy relationship and have a healthy relationship with my Nana and my father." The young man ended his heartfelt message with a plea for privacy and understanding: "Every day is a new story about me and my Nana and father. It's getting boring now. Mind your business and have a good rest of the week x." Concerns about Freddy's wellbeing have grown this week after news emerged that he had moved out of his father's home to live with Jackiey Budden. Freddy and Jeff had previously been seen sharing a close bond, notably on the BBC series Race Across the World last year. However, their relationship now appears fractured, with Freddy growing closer to his late mother Jade's mother. Reports say Jeff is devastated by the situation and is considering legal action to prevent Freddy and his grandmother from spending time together. Defying his father's wishes, Freddy has continued to share photos with his grandmother on social media. One recent post alarmed fans as he listed the things he hates about himself, including his 'relationship with weed,' 'step parents,' and his inability to love properly. He also mentioned having 'family issues.' Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community! Get the latest news sent straight to your messages by joining our WhatsApp community today. The TikTok video was shared just a day before what would have been Jade Goody's 44th birthday. The late Big Brother star died aged 27 in 2009 after a battle with cervical cancer. Supporters flooded Freddy's post with messages of encouragement. One TikTok user wrote, "Ah man this is gonna be sad to watch," while another said, "Go home son, this is not what mum wanted for you sweetheart." A third added, "Sending you love Fred! Watched you in Race Across the World & you're such a decent lad with so much potential." The tension within the family extends beyond his father. Freddy was absent from his older brother Bobby's 22nd birthday party on Monday, an event reportedly marked by a "sadness" due to his absence. Bobby was said to have spent time with Jeff and his stepmother Kate instead. Freddy was just four when Jade passed away. Since then, Jeff has dedicated himself to raising Freddy and Bobby, striving to provide stability after such a traumatic loss.
