Neeraj Bawana visits wife under tight security
The 35-year-old gangster, who is involved in over 30 cases of murder and extortion and runs a gang from inside the jail, was only allowed to meet his wife and a doctor.
Bawana, who was one of the most wanted criminals, was arrested in 2015 by the Special Cell. According to police, he had links with Fazal Ur Rehman, a close associate of gangster Dawood, and gangsters who had ties with Canada-based fugitive Arsh Dalla and Hardeep Singh Nijjar, a Khalistani activist who was killed in Canada in 2023.
On Monday, the high court granted Bawana custodial parole from 10am to 4pm after verifying the medical condition of his wife.
On Tuesday morning, jail officials were instructed to bring Bawana out of his cell by 9.30-9.45 am. In the next 15-20 minutes, a team of 15 additional police personnel went inside the prison to take his custody. Meanwhile, more than 25 personnel were deployed on the route from the central jail to RLKC Hospital in Pandav Nagar.
Bawana reached the hospital at around 10.30am, and was escorted inside the premises with videographers and armed guards around.
'We know that he has been running a gang from inside the jail. He also killed two undertrials inside a jail van when they were in judicial custody. There was also a threat to his life. He is only allowed to meet his wife and a doctor. He can't talk to anyone else,' said a senior officer of the Delhi Armed Police.
Special units, Delhi Police's Third Battalion and the district police staff were also deployed to also monitor any suspicious activity.
The court on Monday noted that Bawana is a 'high-risk undertrial' and granted him custodial parole on the condition that none of the family members was allowed to be around his wife in the Intensive Care Unit when he visits her.
'The Superintendent Jail is directed to make adequate security arrangements, particularly, keeping in mind the status of the petitioner (Bawana), who is a high-risk undertrial, to ensure that he is in a position to meet his ailing wife at RLKC Metro Hospital, Pandav Nagar, Delhi...During such custody parole, the petitioner/applicant would be permitted to meet his ailing wife and to consult the concerned doctor(s) only,' the court said in the order.
According to the police, Bawana's 30-year-old wife is suffering from a severe/recurrent vision loss, excruciating headache, severe vomiting, loss of power on the right side of the hand with severe tingling and numbness of the right upper limb.
Another senior officer said that Bawana had to be released since none of the couple's family members agreed to help. 'It was a love marriage and everyone was opposed to it. So, the families are not helping the couple,' he said.
Meanwhile, two men were detained at the hospital at around 2.30pm under 'suspicion'. On interrogation, they said that they wanted to meet Bawana, police said.
'We detained them and sent them to the local staff who are checking their criminal records. The duo later alleged they just wanted to see how Bawana looks…' said a special cell officer, asking not to be named.
At 4pm, Bawana was escorted back to Tihar jail where he was readmitted to his cell, police said

Contract worker electrocuted while putting up electric poles under Union Government scheme
Vijay Pal Singh, 30, of Rajasthan died of electrocution during installation of electric posts at Chellappanpet near here on Tuesday. According to the police, the accident took place on July 29 afternoon while the deceased was installing the electric posts along with his colleagues at Chellappanpet. The project, implemented under a Union Government scheme, is being executed by a Rajasthan-based contractor. Vijay was electrocuted after the pole came into contact with the live overhead cable passing through the project site. Vijay's body was moved to the Thanajvur Medical College Hospital for postmortem by the Vallam police, who have registered a case and are investigating.

BJP lodges police complaint in Delhi against Mamata Banerjee over ‘fake video'
Kolkata: West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee's allegation that the Delhi police physically tortured a toddler and his mother on July 26 during the ongoing drive against migrant workers from her state on the suspicion that they were illegal Bangladeshi immigrants triggered a row on Tuesday with the Bharatiya Janata Party lodging a police complaint against her in the national capital. It was filed on Tuesday afternoon at the cyber crime branch at the Delhi police headquarters by Soumendu Adhikari, the BJP Lok Sabha member from Contai and brother of the leader of the Opposition in Bengal Assembly, Suvendu Adhikari. The complaint letter said Banerjee should be booked for several offences including 'wantonly giving provocation with intent to cause riot' and 'cyber terrorism.' On July 27, Banerjee posted a video of a toddler and his mother on social media and alleged that Delhi police physically tortured them during the drive. 'Atrocious!! Terrible!! See how Delhi police brutally beat up a kid and his mother, members of a migrant family from Malda's Chanchal. See how even a child is not spared from the cruelty of violence in the regime of linguistic terror unleashed by BJP in the country against the Bengalis! Where are they taking our country now?' She posted the video hours after the Trinamool Congress (TMC) launched its year-long 'Bhasa Andolan' (language movement) alleging that police in BJP-ruled states were specifically targeting migrant workers who speak Bengali. Banerjee referred to the video again on Monday while leading a protest in Birbhum district. The video was apparently recorded by a man who pointed at some scars in the child's left ear and forehead. 'Police tortured my wife and one-and-a-half year-old son,' the man could be heard saying in the video. The Delhi police countered the allegation on Monday, calling the charges 'fabricated' and 'politically motivated.' Addressing the media, deputy commissioner of police (East) Abhishek Dhania said: 'Upon inquiry, we identified the woman as Sanjanu Parveen. During questioning, she alleged that on the night of July 26, four men in plain clothes posing as police personnel took her and her child to a secluded spot and demanded ₹25,000, which she claimed to have paid.' The DCP said police investigation, analysis of footage from local security cameras and local intelligence revealed inconsistencies in the woman's statements. 'During sustained questioning, the woman admitted that her relative, a political worker from Malda district in West Bengal, had asked her to make the video. The video was then circulated locally in Bengal and later surfaced on social media,' Dhania said. 'This appears to be a deliberate attempt to malign the image of Delhi Police through a politically motivated narrative. The matter is still under investigation,' he added. On Tuesday, while Suvendu Adhikari addressed the media in Kolkata and showed a security camera footage recovered by the Delhi police, the chief minister stuck to her allegation while addressing an administrative meeting in Birbhum. 'Check the records. The woman was held overnight by Delhi police and threatened. She is still in their custody. We want all of them to return safely. After that it will be clear who is lying and who is telling the truth, ' she said. Bengal BJP unit president Samik Bhattacharya targeted the chief minister.
