It's one of the easiest habits I've added to my daily routine, and it makes a noticeable difference in how I feel—refreshed, hydrated, and just a little bit healthier.
As a personal trainer, I'm often asked for simple, realistic tips people can start doing today to improve their wellness. And this is one of my favorites. Drinking lemon water is a quick win. It's low-effort, inexpensive, and delivers real benefits. Lemons might look like just a bright garnish for your water glass, but they're actually little powerhouses of health.
If you're looking to add one small yet impactful habit to your daily routine, start here. Below, I'm sharing five benefits of drinking lemon water daily—plus a few tips for protecting your teeth if you're worried about enamel.
1. Lemon Water Helps Flush Out Toxins
Let's start with your body's natural detox process. You've probably heard your liver is responsible for filtering and flushing toxins, and that's true. But what you might not know is that drinking lemon water can help stimulate your liver's natural enzymes, giving that detox process a helpful boost.
Starting your day with a glass of lemon water can help set your body up for success. It encourages gentle cleansing and supports your digestive organs in doing what they do best. Think of it as a way to 'wake up' your system in the morning and give it a fresh start.
I recommend drinking a glass of room-temperature lemon water first thing when you wake up, even before your coffee or breakfast. It's a great way to hydrate after a long night of sleep and give your body the signal that it's time to kick into gear.

2. It Can Help Balance Your Body's pH
Here's something most people don't expect: although lemons taste acidic, they actually have an alkalizing effect on the body once metabolized. I know—it sounds backwards. But it's true!
Many of us eat diets that lean heavily toward acidic foods, like processed grains, sugar, meat, and dairy. While there's nothing wrong with these in moderation, an overly acidic internal environment can create stress in the body. That's where lemon water comes in.
Adding lemon to your water can help your body maintain a better pH balance. It's not about becoming perfectly alkaline—it's about adding balance. And lemon water is one small step in the right direction.
3. It May Support Weight Loss and Reduce Cravings
Lemon water won't magically melt pounds away—but it can absolutely support your weight loss goals. Here's how.
First, lemons contain a soluble fiber called pectin. This fiber can help slow digestion and promote a feeling of fullness. That means you might feel more satisfied between meals and be less likely to reach for those random snacks that add up over the day.

A study published in the International Journal of Food Sciences and Nutrition found that bitter flavors—like those in lemon—can stimulate the release of digestive enzymes from the pancreas and bile from the gallbladder. These are essential components of proper digestion.
Drinking lemon water before meals might help 'prime' your digestive system and make it easier to break down food. And because proper digestion helps eliminate waste more efficiently, you may also notice less bloating and more regularity. Win-win!
But What About Your Teeth?
You've probably heard that citrus can erode tooth enamel—and yes, there's some truth to that. But don't panic! I've been drinking lemon water for years and never had an issue. Still, it's smart to take a few precautions.
Here are my go-to tips to protect your pearly whites:
Drink it cold or at room temperature, not hot. Warm temperatures can intensify acidity.
Use a straw. This helps minimize contact between the lemon water and your teeth.
Try lemon essential oil. A drop or two of 100% pure, food-grade lemon essential oil (never synthetic!) can provide a similar flavor with potentially less acid exposure.
You don't have to give up lemon water to protect your enamel—just be smart about how you drink it!
Lemon water is one of those tiny habits that add up to a big difference over time. It hydrates, supports digestion, boosts your immune system, and may even help with weight management. Plus, it's refreshing and easy to incorporate into your daily routine.

'When most people think of teas to support brain health, green tea is usually what comes to mind due to its high potency of antioxidative properties,' says Chacha Miller, MS, RD, LDN, pediatric dietitian and founder of The Carda Mom. 'It's rich in catechins, which are a type of polyphenol that acts as a powerful antioxidant that helps protect cells from damage caused by oxidative stress and free radicals.' Green tea also contains L-theanine, an amino acid shown to reduce stress and improve focus. Research consistently backs the link between green tea and cognitive function: One double-blind study in Molecules found that adults who consumed decaffeinated green tea catechins daily for 12 weeks showed improvements in working memory and attention. Aim for about two to three cups a day (roughly 16–24 ounces) to match the L-theanine and polyphenol ranges used in cognition studies without overdoing the caffeine. Turmeric Tea 'Another favorite of mine for brain health is turmeric tea, also due to its high antioxidant content,' says Miller. 'It's rich in curcumin, which is known for its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects.' Turmeric tea has earned attention in Ayurvedic medicine for its brain-supportive properties. Emerging research suggests that curcumin may support positive mood, memory, and overall cognitive function, particularly in aging adults. 'I often suggest adding a small dash of black pepper to turmeric tea to help with the absorption of curcumin and get the most benefit,' Miller adds. "Chamomile tea can be a simple, natural way to support brain health, mostly by helping you sleep better and feel calmer,' says Raj Dasgupta, MD, FACP, FCCP, FAASM, board-certified physician and chief medical advisor for Sleepopolis. 'One of its main active compounds, apigenin, interacts with receptors in the brain that help you relax, which may explain why so many people find it easier to wind down after drinking it.' Dasgupta says chamomile also has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties that may help protect the brain over time. 'While we still need more research on its direct effects on memory or cognition, what we do know is that reducing stress and sleeping well are two of the best things you can do for long-term brain health, and chamomile may gently support both,' he Chamomile tea is generally safe for most people, though Dasgupta suggests that anyone with ragweed allergies or those on certain medications should check with their doctor Mane Mushroom Tea Lion's Mane mushrooms are the focus of growing research suggesting they may support long-term brain function. 'Not a traditional tea, but this medicinal mushroom is gaining a lot of attention for cognitive health,' says Ehsan Ali, MD, an internal medicine physician and founder of Beverly Hills Concierge Doctor. 'Lion's Mane contains compounds called hericenones and erinacines, which have been shown to stimulate the growth of nerve growth factor (NGF), a protein that supports the growth and survival of neurons.' One study published in the International Journal of Molecular Sciences found that Lion's Mane may help protect against neurodegenerative diseases by promoting brain plasticity and regeneration. 'It's particularly useful for memory and focus over time, not just a short-term boost,' Ali adds. Many people brew it as a powdered tea or steep pre-packaged mushroom blends for a mellow, earthy sip. Peppermint Tea Turns out, peppermint tea isn't just for settling your stomach. 'Peppermint tea doesn't contain caffeine, but its menthol content can still offer a brain boost,' says Ali. 'Research suggests that peppermint aroma and ingestion may enhance memory, alertness, and cognitive performance.' One randomized trial in Human Psychopharmacology showed that drinking peppermint significantly improved cognitive performance and increased cerebral blood flow in healthy adults. 'It's a great option if you want a caffeine-free alternative that still helps with focus,' says Ali. Rosemary Tea If you're looking for a brain boost straight from the garden, rosemary tea might be worth steeping. 'A brew of rosemary tea is a great source of carnosic acid, which has neuroprotective effects that help improve memory and decrease mental fatigue,' says Jeremy Gurewitz, co-founder of Solace Health. A review in Molecules supports this link and identifies carnosic acid found in rosemary and sage as a neuroprotective compound with antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects. The study suggests it may help prevent neuron damage linked to neurodegenerative disorders. Brew rosemary fresh for five to seven minutes for best results. On August 3, she shared an update on her health after being admitted to the hospital. "Not expected or planned. I had and still have symptoms that pointed towards a blood clot on the lung. IT IS NOT A BLOOD CLOT THANK GOD," Jessie J wrote on her Instagram Stories, sharing a photo of her arm with IVs. "They ran a lot of tests, which ended up showing | have an infection (still trying to figure out what) and a little fluid on my lungs. Finding it hard to breathe in, but I discharged myself last night (I hate being in hospital) and will continue the investigation as an outpatient," she added. Jessie J was diagnosed with breast cancer at 37. She underwent surgery to remove her tumor in June. In a subsequent post on August 3, Jessie J said that the hardest part of her journey so far was the day she went in for surgery."The recovery physically is far from quick or easy, and mentally it's been the most challenging time for me. Especially as a Mum with a toddler and being unable to be the mother I usually am. And having to change the plans for my career for this year has been frustrating after working so hard to get to this point and excited to do it all," she said. Though she made it clear that she was grateful that her surgery was a success, she admitted that the goodness didn't take away from the tough recovery process. In a third post from her hospital bed, Jessie J took a minute to reflect, reminding herself to "slow" down. "As an ADHD Aries fire breathing dragon t rex, I can do it myself, I'm always ok woman. That slow pace has been a hard reality to accept tbh. I love moving and working and being up and active but I can't be right now, and that's what it is," she wrote. "And I am finding the strength in knowing that all can be adjusted to align with a slower pace and the support of my very small inner support circle," she added.
