Perak Sultan's Office lodges police report over false TikTok video on royal wedding
Perak Royal Household Comptroller Meor Hezbullah Meor Abd Malik said the report was filed on July 31 to protect the reputation of Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah, the royal family, and the Perak Palace from being tarnished.
Meor Hezbullah said that the office identified the false content in a 58-second video circulated by a TikTok account under the name 'The King'.
He added that the office has no knowledge of, nor any connection with, the owner of the account in question, and has never appointed any individual or social media account owner as a spokesperson for the Perak Palace regarding any event, including the Royal Wedding.
"The content and accompanying description in the video are entirely false and could potentially cause public confusion. Therefore, a police report has been lodged," he said in a statement today.
Meor Hezbullah said that the false content included claims that the Royal Wedding Reception would take place at Istana Iskandariah, Bukit Chandan, Kuala Kangsar, from Aug 7 to 17, and would be broadcast live by a private television station at 11.30am on Aug 7.
The fabricated claims also alleged that a team would be heading to Sabah on Aug 17 for a week, for the royal couple to visit Tamparuli, Kampung Tinambak, Sabah.
"There will be no live broadcast of the Royal Solemnisation Ceremony for public viewing, and no Royal Wedding Reception will be held at Istana Iskandariah at 11.30am on Aug 7.
"Also, there are no planned activities involving the royal couple in Tamparuli, Sabah, on Aug 17.

Temple devotee loses life savings in online lottery scam
TANGKAK: A 58-year-old woman was scammed out of her life savings after receiving a fraudulent WhatsApp message that claimed she had won a RM1.5 million lottery grand prize. The victim, a temple devotee, made 20 online cash transfers amounting to RM261,640 between May 31 and Aug 8 to claim the winnings. She was reportedly told that the administration fee she was paying would be donated to the temple. District police chief Superintendent Roslan Mohd Talib said the bank account she transferred the money to was later found to be a mule account. She realised she had been duped when the prize money did not arrive, and lodged a police report yesterday, on Aug 12. The case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating, which carries a jail term of up to 10 years, whipping, and a fine upon conviction. Roslan urged the public to remain vigilant and not be enticed by unsolicited lottery prize offers, especially those made online. "Always verify the authenticity of such claims before transferring money," he said in a statement. "Check the latest scam alerts from the Commercial Crime Investigation Department via its Facebook, Instagram or TikTok accounts." Victims are advised to immediately contact the National Scam Response Centre at 997 to block the outflow of funds from suspect accounts.

Woman fined RM1,000 for hitting man with broom after TikTok insult
PETALING JAYA: A housewife was fined RM1,000 by the magistrates' court today for assaulting a man with a broom after he insulted her during a live TikTok stream last month. Magistrate Shahril Anuar Ahmad Mustapha imposed the fine on K. Mahaletchimy, 50, after she pleaded guilty to the charge. Shahril ordered her to serve a month in jail if she fails to pay the fine. The visibly saddened Mahaletchimy entered her guilty plea immediately after the charge was read out by a court interpreter. "I understand. I plead guilty," she said. She had arrived earlier at the courtroom accompanied by several family members, who sat in the public gallery during proceedings. According to the charge, Mahaletchimy voluntarily caused hurt to the 24-year-old victim at about 7.30pm at the security guard post of a primary school in Puchong on July 5. The offence, under Section 323 of the Penal Code, carries a maximum one-year jail term, a fine of up to RM2,000, or both upon conviction. According to the facts of the case, Mahaletchimy was upset that the victim had made disparaging remarks about her during the stream. She confronted him and struck his left arm with a broom. When the victim tried to flee, she chased after him and hit him again with the broom. She was arrested in Kinrara on July 30 by investigators from the Serdang district police headquarters. Investigations revealed she had assaulted the victim with a broom and the act was caught on closed-circuit television camera footage. National Legal Aid Foundation lawyer Muhd Muqri Mohd Khairi appealed for leniency, citing Mahaletchimy's early guilty plea, which saved the court's time, and the fact that she is a first offender. "She was remanded for two days for investigations and has shown remorse. "She was released and voluntarily came to court today to face the charge. "I ask for a minimal fine on her," he said. Deputy public prosecutor Lim Leong Hui asked the court to impose a proportionate sentence to serve as a deterrent. After proceedings, Mahaletchimy said she had lost her patience and struck the victim after he made disparaging remarks about her. "It involves my dignity, and what he said cannot be tolerated," she said.
