Perak Sultan's Office lodges police report over false TikTok video on royal wedding
IPOH: The Office of the Sultan of Perak has lodged a police report over the circulation of a false video on the social media platform TikTok related to the Royal Wedding of Perak.
Perak Royal Household Comptroller Meor Hezbullah Meor Abd Malik said the report was filed on July 31 to protect the reputation of Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah, the royal family, and the Perak Palace from being tarnished.
Meor Hezbullah said that the office identified the false content in a 58-second video circulated by a TikTok account under the name 'The King'.
He added that the office has no knowledge of, nor any connection with, the owner of the account in question, and has never appointed any individual or social media account owner as a spokesperson for the Perak Palace regarding any event, including the Royal Wedding.
"The content and accompanying description in the video are entirely false and could potentially cause public confusion. Therefore, a police report has been lodged," he said in a statement today.
Meor Hezbullah said that the false content included claims that the Royal Wedding Reception would take place at Istana Iskandariah, Bukit Chandan, Kuala Kangsar, from Aug 7 to 17, and would be broadcast live by a private television station at 11.30am on Aug 7.
The fabricated claims also alleged that a team would be heading to Sabah on Aug 17 for a week, for the royal couple to visit Tamparuli, Kampung Tinambak, Sabah.
"There will be no live broadcast of the Royal Solemnisation Ceremony for public viewing, and no Royal Wedding Reception will be held at Istana Iskandariah at 11.30am on Aug 7.
"Also, there are no planned activities involving the royal couple in Tamparuli, Sabah, on Aug 17.
