Rideshare driver charged after two women were sexually assaulted, police say
Toronto police say a rideshare driver has been charged after two women were allegedly sexually assaulted in city's west end earlier this week.
In a news release issued Saturday, officials say officers responded to a call for a sexual assault in the Weston Road and Eglinton Avenue West area on Monday.
Police say two female passengers exited a rideshare vehicle at their destination when the driver followed them into a nearby building lobby.
'The driver sexually assaulted both victims and left the area in his vehicle," police wrote, adding that the vehicle is a purple Toyota Rav 4.
As a result of their investigation, police say on Wednesday 30-year-old Mohamed Abdulmalik Babiker, of Toronto, was arrested and charged with two counts of sexual assault.
None of the charges have been tested in court but police say he is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on Aug. 25.
Police say they are 'concerned' that there may be more victims.
Anyone with information is asked to come forward and contact investigators or Crime Stoppers anonymously.

According to police, officers and citizens stopped to help 26-year-old Belinda Sarkodie, who had been wounded in a brazen daylight shooting near King Street East and James Street North on July 11. While one woman was providing assistance to the victim, who did not survive the shooting, a thief stole the woman's purse, which contained debit cards, identification, and other valuables. A suspect of the theft was subsequently identified following 'an extensive investigation involving surveillance footage, bank transaction analysis, and multiple interviews,' police said in a news release issued this week. The suspect, identified as Hamilton resident Chala Ogden, is facing a number of charges, including theft under $5,000, fraud under $5,000, and possession of property obtained by crime. 'This incident serves as a reminder that while tragic events often bring out the best in our community, there are unfortunately individuals who attempt to take advantage of moments of crisis,' police said in the news release. 'We continue to commend the courage and compassion shown by those who assisted Belinda that day, and we remain committed to holding those who exploit such moments accountable.'

Stabbing in Toronto's downtown core leaves 1 man critically injured
A man has been critically injured after an overnight stabbing downtown near Queen and Peter. Andrew Brennan reports. One man suffered life-threatening injuries following a stabbing in Toronto's downtown core early Friday morning. Man charged in fiery crash on Gardiner Expressway that left 68-year-old dead
A multi-vehicle collision resulted in one vehicle landing on it's side and catching fire on the Gardiner Expressway in Toronto. (Cassidy Powell / Chopper 24) A 26-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a fiery crash on the Gardiner Expressway that left one man dead and four others injured, Toronto police say. The crash occurred in the westbound lanes of the highway near Lower Jarvis Street on July 8 at around 5:35 p.m. Police previously confirmed that three vehicles were involved in the crash, including one that flipped onto its side against the barrier and became full engulfed in flames. One driver, a 68-year-old man, was pronounced dead at the scene. Four other people were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Two people were treated by paramedics at the scene but did not go to hospital. On Tuesday, police said 26-year-old Andrew Leal, of Caledon, turned himself in to police and was charged in connection with the crash. He faces one count of dangerous operation of a motor-vehicle causing death and four counts of dangerous operation of a motor-vehicle causing bodily harm. The charges have not been tested in court.
