Alleged hitmen deposited large sums after DJ Sumbody, and DJ Vintos' killings
This was during Katiso 'KT' Molefe's bail hearing in the Alexandra Magistrates' Court on August 6. The court also heard detailed evidence implicating Molefe in orchestrating the alleged hits.

DJ Vintos was fatally shot in Orlando East in March 2022. DJ Sumbody and his bodyguards were gunned down in Woodmead in November 2022.
The prosecution said that Molefe, referred to as 'K' or Tau's boss 'Alpha' in communications, was, as referred to in the affidavit, the 'middleman' who facilitated the payment for the hits. The affidavit further stated that WhatsApp messages between Mabusela and Kekana after DJ Sumbody's shooting allegedly show Tau was instructed to call 'K' to arrange payment.
The prosecution alleged that Tau was in constant communication with Molefe.
On November 25, Tau allegedly deposited R100 000 cash into his account. Mabusela and Kekana allegedly made cash deposits into their accounts as well.
Months earlier, after DJ Vintos' murder, his photo was allegedly shared between Tau and Mabusela. The prosecution said that in a message, Tau reportedly told Mabusela, 'I have been talking to Alpha, he is very happy. He will see us after work.'
That day, Mabusela deposited R10 000 cash into his account, followed by an additional R56 000 three days later.
The State alleges these communications indicate Molefe's role as the middleman, but Molefe denied the allegations through his advocate, Michael Hellens SC.
Presenting Molefe's affidavit, Hellens challenged the State's evidence, asserting that Molefe is neither 'K' nor 'Alpha.'
'I deny that I am Tau's boss [Alpha]. I also deny having knowledge of any discussion which did not include me,' Molefe's affidavit stated. 'I am not known as 'K', nor can it be said that persons were communicating with me.'
He further argued that the J50 arrest warrant mentions his name, but only under the assumption that he is 'K ', and he denies that claim.
The court postponed Molefe's bail hearing to August 15 to allow the defence to respond to new information in the State's affidavit that was not included in the J50 form.
Tau, Mabusela, and Kekana, who have not applied for bail, remain in custody until their appearance on September 18.

Mystery deepens as family of missing man pleads for police action

Image: Supplied Five years after a 54-year-old employee of the Department of Correctional Services took early retirement and received a payout worth millions, only to never be seen again, his sisters have said the case has gone cold despite CCTV footage obtained of a woman and man who used his bank card and his vehicle. The family revealed that R100 000 had vanished from their brother, Quinton Bradley Plaatjies's bank account. In 2021, a year after his disappearance, the family made a public appeal for help via the Cape's Cold Cases, Weekend Argus. Plaatjies went on early retirement in 2019, after being employed at the Department of Correctional Services in Somerset East, where he worked for over 35 years. Plaatjies received a payout of close to R4 million left his home prior to October 2020 to visit relatives in Nysschen Street in Bethelsdorp in Gqeberha, and was never seen again. His brand new Ford Ecosport, which he paid cash for, was found abandoned on November 7, 2020, outside Beer Shack in Beach Road, Gqeberha. Items such as his false teeth were also left behind and his car was handed over as part of evidence. The Hawks was also roped in to assist with the investigation. Plaatjes's sister, Georgina Sammy, said they were appealing for police to utilise the video footage they obtained shortly after his disappearance, which showed a woman dressed in hijab and a man, who had masks covering their faces, using his bank card at an ATM where R100 000 was withdrawn. The transaction took place between October and November 2020 near Bethelsdorp in Gqeberha. Plaatjes's bank account was also frozen. 'We as the sisters of Quinton, we strongly feel let down by the police,' Sammy said. 'In the past three years we have heard nothing about the case. 'The lady in the footage was seen withdrawing the R100 000 out of the bank card, we do not know if she was interviewed. 'We had a tip-off that she was in Uitenhage, named Noomfie. 'The Hawks detective, I questioned him whether she was found and questioned and that she held the key to the mystery of my brother. 'Where did she get the cards from my brother? 'What happened with the interrogation? 'We were told to stay quiet.' Sammy added that their brother's bank account remained frozen and that vehicle was still in the possession of the police. 'They said they are on the case and that we must leave the case in their capable hands. 'What happened to my brother's car and when can it be released? 'What about the money in his account which was frozen? 'They said the leads ended in Uitenhage. 'There is footage of a man and woman, why can't it go viral and if someone recognises her? 'What about the DNA found on the steering wheel of his car?" Chaz Thomas from Track n Trace Missing Persons Unit, who has been assisting the family for the past five years, said they understood the family's frustrations. 'DNA tests were also taken from the sisters and nothing came from that after five years,' she said. 'There have been no significant leads and he cannot just have vanished off the face of the earth. 'We hope that someone somewhere sees him and comes forward.' Previously, Brigadier Thandi Mbambo of the Hawks said they had assisted with information with the case while the Eastern Cape police added that the case was at a sensitive stage and confirmed that the vehicle had been found abandoned. 'A good guy': Man charged with murdering his daughter, 4
A man who allegedly assaulted his four-year-old daughter who subsequently died has been described as a 'good guy' who always greeted people in his community. Dressed in black pants and a grey hoodie, he briefly appeared in the Protea magistrate's court on Friday, charged with attempted murder and compelled rape. Police said in a statement on Friday the child had died in hospital after allegedly being assaulted on Wednesday. 'The case docket has been changed to murder and an additional charge of rape has been added,' police said. His case was postponed to Tuesday for allocation of a date for his bail application. The accused indicated to the court he would be applying for bail after securing a legal aid lawyer. The 32-year-old allegedly assaulted his daughter in Eldorado Park on Wednesday. Community activist Raymond Jansen said the incident had shocked the community. 'This incident shocked the whole of Eldorado Park. Everyone is in shock because this guy was a very good guy, but I don't know what happened.' e said. Local ward councillor Juwairiya Kaldine, who attended the court proceedings , said the 'gruesome' incident occurred at about 10am. She said police were called several times but allegedly only responded at 2pm. She only found out about the incident at 3pm on Thursday when a community member sent a voice note to the community WhatsApp group. She said they managed to trace the person who sent the voice note and went to the crime scene. 'When I got to the crime scene, it was a gruesome image. It was, I don't even know how to explain at this point. I have no words. The bloody clothes were left in a bath, and it was still on the scene. There were paper towels full of blood and the couches were lying around,' she said. She said the scene was allegedly left unsecured and could have been tampered with. She went to the police station to ask if there was a registered case number. The police couldn't give her any answers, she said, and she subsequently contacted the commander of Gauteng FCS Unit, who advised her that she must provide a case number to track the incident. 'I was very shocked. Everybody was talking about the incident already. You're now asking me for a case number to track?' she said. She said she then went to the hospital to speak to the mother to find out if a case had been opened and to check if the little girl was fine. That's when she discovered the girl was on life support. 'The doctors then explained to me, as the community leader, that a lot of damage was done to the baby. 'They also needed the case number, which we didn't have at that point. And two hours later we then found that the mother was also arrested,' Kaldine said. Gauteng police are yet to comment on the allegations made by Kaldine and their response will be added as soon as it becomes available.

George mother of 3 killed days after starting new job
On last Friday night, August 1, two days after starting a new job as a general worker at Empa Structures in Wilderness, Heidi Mlinjane (44) tragically died in a vehicle-pedestrian accident on the N2 between Thembalethu and Lawaaikamp. Just three months ago, this mother of three boys, Ronaldo (22), Crushegan (16) and Janaywin (13), moved out of her parents' home for the first time after having been allocated an RDP house. With a heavy heart, her boyfriend, Ben Mali (47), told George Herald of some of the plans Mlinjane had had for the future. 'She wanted to expand the RDP house and see her kids, especially the two teenagers, grow up and flourish. We thought we'd grow old together.' She was also very close to her younger brother, Corné Boezak (33), who describes her as a mentor from whom he had learnt countless valuable life lessons. 'The kids are taking big strain and we're just taking it one step at a time,' said Boezak. He described how the malicious comments made on social media by people who did not know Mlinjane were deeply hurtful to the family. Boezak and Mali describe Mlinjane as very likeable people person with a great sense of humour and who lived with an open hand. 'Help me!' she cried The incident happened while Mlinjane was on her way home from work after being dropped off at a central point by her employer. She is understood to have been in the middle of an intermittent WhatsApp conversation with her brother when tragedy struck. Boezak's last message to Mlinjane at 17:59 remained unanswered. He received word of the incident and arrived on the scene minutes later. Mali had arrived shortly before him. They described the excruciating pain she was in, clearly communicated through her facial expression. 'Help me!' she cried out as the paramedics fought for her life. She had apparently sustained a head injury and multiple fractures, including at least one femur. Bleeding internally, Mlinjane was apparently resuscitated twice in hospital. Unfortunately, the doctors were unable to bring her back when her heart stopped beating for a third time. Mugging claims unconfirmed While reports have surfaced on social media of frequent muggings taking place on the four pedestrian bridges in that area, causing people to illegally cross the N2 on foot, none of these claims could be linked to this incident. Especially since, according to Mali, his girlfriend's cellphone and an undisclosed amount of cash was still with her after she had been struck. Southern Cape police spokesperson, Sergeant Christopher Spies could not link an incident of robbery to this vehicle-pedestrian accident. He did not respond to this publication's question on whether police crime statistics reflect incidents of pedestrians being mugged or robbed on the pedestrian bridges in question. According to Regulation 323 of the National Road Traffic Regulations (under the National Road Traffic Act, 1996), it is against the law for pedestrians to be on a freeway except when crossing it at a designated pedestrian bridge or crossing, or if directed by a traffic officer, or if their vehicle has broken down and they must walk to get assistance (and even then, only under certain conditions). However, the vehicle driver was initially charged with reckless and negligent driving. Those charges were later upgraded to culpable homicide when Mlinjane died. The police are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident. Mlinjane's funeral is at 9 Nel Street, Borcherds, at 09:30 on Saturday morning, 9 August.
