Nashville group cancels events surrounding MLS game, cites immigration arrests
A supporters group for Nashville's Major League Soccer team canceled game-day activities following recent U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement operations in Tennessee that have resulted in more than 100 people taken into custody.
The group La Brigada De Oro posted a statement on social media announcing the decision to cancel its pregame tailgate at Nashville's match on Saturday night against Charlotte at Geodis Park. Many in the group also boycotted the game.
'During difficult times, family stands together — when one of us is affected, we all are. And at this moment it doesn't feel prudent to celebrate, cheer and party while so many families within our community are being separated and destroyed,' the group said in a statement.
La Brigada De Oro is an officially recognized supporter group for Nashville SC. During Saturday's game, a 2-1 Nashville win over Charlotte FC, fans in attendance spread out banners in the stands that said in English and Spanish: 'We are not all here.'
Federal authorities and the Tennessee Highway Patrol have made 588 traffic stops and took 103 people under investigation for immigration violations, the highway patrol said Friday. The operation started on May 3.
The operation has caused worry and concern among Nashville's immigrant community. About 9% of the city's metropolitan area population of about 2 million are immigrants, according to the Migration Policy Institute's analysis of census data.
'At this most difficult time in our community. Our heart breaks at this injustice and goes out to so many families and friends being affected,' La Brigada De Oro said in its post.

I think she won the match not because she played incredible; just because I made all of those mistakes from — like, if you look from the outside, kind of like from easy balls.' The disappointment was even greater given that Sabalenka has worked hard to adapt her game to the slow surface over the years, and after she ended Iga Swiatek's 26-match unbeaten streak at the French Open in the semifinals. 'You've been playing against a lot of tough opponents, Olympic champion, Iga, and then you go out, and you play really bad,' she said during her post-match interview. 'It was honestly the worst tennis I've played in the last, I don't know how many months.' Sabalenka also complained about the weather conditions. The retractable roof over the center court remained open during the final, and Sabalenka was visibly annoyed by bursts of wind sweeping across the court. Lilli Tagger wins French Open girls title
PARIS (AP) — Lilli Tagger of Austria has won the girls title at the French Open without dropping a set in the tournament. Making her junior Roland-Garros debut this year, the 17-year-old Tagger beat eighth-seeded Hannah Klugman of Britain 6-2, 6-0 in the final on Saturday. Tagger saved all five break points she faced and hit 19 winners. She is the first Austrian player to win a junior singles title at the French Open. Her previous best result at a major tournament was reaching the quarterfinals at the Australian Open this year. Yui Kamiji wins fifth French Open wheelchair singles title
PARIS (AP) — Top-ranked Yui Kamiji of Japan won a fifth wheelchair singles title at the French Open by beating second-seeded Aniek Van Koot on Saturday. Kamiji won 6-2, 6-2 in the women's final on Court Suzanne-Lenglen. It was the 72nd meeting between Kamiji and her Dutch rival, and their 20th at a Grand Slam tournament.
