Premier League to launch ‘RefCams' in TV matches this weekend
The 'RefCams' will be used from Friday, when Liverpool take on Bournemouth at Anfield, after their successful launch at the Club World Cup and the Premier League's Summer Series in the United States.
The Premier League has yet to confirm details but it is expected that matches being screened live by Sky Sports and TNT Sport will have access to RefCam footage. It will also be available to VARs, if required, after a decision by the International FA Board (Ifab) in March.
Pierluigi Collina, the chairman of Fifa's refereeing committee, said the use of RefCam at the Club World Cup 'went beyond our expectations', adding: 'We thought it would have been an interesting experience for TV viewers and we received great comments.
'We were asked, 'Why not in all the matches?' and even more, 'Why not in all sports?'
'We had the possibility to see what the referee sees on the field of play. And this was not only for entertainment purposes, but also for coaching the referees and to explain why something was not seen on the field of play.'
The first use of a RefCam took place in the Premier League at the end of the 2023-24 season when the Australian referee Jarred Gillett wore a head-mounted camera in the match between Crystal Palace and Manchester United.
The video from that was not released until some weeks later, because the use of the camera was part of a programme to promote match officials, but it did capture a stunning angle of Michael Olise's goal.
Players will be told about the camera before the match — unlike in 1989 when the referee David Elleray secretly wore a microphone for an Arsenal v Millwall match for an ITV programme, which showed the Arsenal captain Tony Adams calling the match official 'a f***ing cheat'.

Viktor Gyokeres gave three three-word remark after Ruben Amorim made his team-mates cry
Viktor Gyokeres is set to be reunited with his former Sporting CP manager Ruben Amorim on Sunday when Arsenal travel to face Manchester United on the opening weekend of the Premier League Viktor Gyokeres insisted there were 'no hard feelings' when Ruben Amorim decided to abandon Sporting CP midway through last season. Amorim made the switch from the Jose Alvalade Stadium to Old Trafford in November last year while Sporting were still top of the Portuguese Primeira Liga. Gyokeres was left to spearhead the team without the manager that brought him to the club and, despite a rocky initial period, helped the side defend their league title and won the Taca de Portugal. Last month, Gyokeres followed his former boss to the Premier League, but opted to join rivals Arsenal over Amorim's Manchester United. The Swedish striker's £64million fee means he arrives with huge expectations to perform under Mikel Arteta as the Gunners look to go one better than their second-placed finishes over the past three seasons. As if Gyokeres' debut coming on Sunday against United at Old Trafford wasn't enough pressure, all eyes will be on his performance against the team and manager he effectively rejected. Amorim will know all too well of the threat the 27-year-old poses, as Gyokeres scored his first goal in an Arsenal shirt during the pre-season win over Athletic Club last weekend. Cetinkaya also revealed that a number of Premier League clubs were interested in signing the Sweden international last summer following his outstanding breakthrough season, but Gyokeres opted to stay due to Amorim remaining in charge. His soft stance on Amorim's exit may have also been a subtle indication that he was already planning his own exit, while his more distraught team-mates knew they'd be staying put. Teenager and Labrador victorious in dog-agility competition
A teenager from Lancashire is thrilled to have earned a place in the final of a prestigious dog-agility competition, after she and her Labrador triumphed in the semi-final last from Lancaster, and Bee - whom she trained herself, came first in the Intermediate ABC (Anything But Collie) Kennel Club Agility Stakes, securing a place at the final in London in 15-year-old and her three-year-old dog completed the course - consisting of jumps, weaves and tunnels - in the fastest time, with no faults, beating 29 other dogs and their handlers."I was really shocked to have won, as I never thought we would qualify - let alone win the semi-final," said Jenna. Jenna has been involved in dog agility since she was six, training with her mum's Labrador and Cocker Spaniel. "Bee is my first agility dog that I have trained myself," she said."She always tries her very best for me and loves agility."Jenna and Bee will now compete against 10 dogs and handlers - both intermediate height and large height dogs - in the ABC final at the London International Horse Show on 19 December. Competitors from across the UK and overseas showcased their agility skills, weaving through poles, soaring over jumps and darting through tunnels, at the Rutland Showground in Oakham last were more than 250 competitions at The Kennel Club International Agility Festival, bringing together dogs of all shapes, sizes and breeds at the world's largest dog agility Kerfoot, chief canine officer, said: "A huge well done to Jenna and Bee on their impressive performance and win.
