Taghmon-Camross pip Adamstown in tight local derby

TAGHMON-CAMROSS staved off a late surge from Adamstown to make it two wins from three in this Group B clash in the Joyces Expert Intermediate 'A' hurling championship in O'Kennedy Park on Saturday.
Alan Cowman's side led by four as the game ticked into injury time, but frees from Seánie O'Neill and Thomas French plus an effort from play by substitute Harry Cosgrove left it at the minimum.

St. Martin's 1-21 St Mary's (Rosslare) 1-18 ST. MARTIN'S edged out St. Mary's (Rosslare) in one of the most entertaining games in a so far mundane hurling season, leaping to the top of the Group B table in the Joyces Expert Intermediate 'A' hurling championship in the process. Both sides came into the contest in Oylegate on Sunday boasting perfect records but only one remained, after the Piercestown-based club overcame a late numerical disadvantage to go top of the table on their own.

Wexford anglers represent Ireland in world championships

Wexford native and Ireland manager, Adrian Browne, has nurtured the skills of the young members to craft two teams to compete in Merida in early August, as six of 10 members are hailing from the Oakland's Club, four of whom are local to New Ross and surrounding areas. Twenty-year-old John Browne, from New Ross is described by Mr Browne as 'a seasoned campaigner at this stage'. John has being fishing for Ireland since the age of 12. He will be fishing his ninth major Championship in Spain and has represented Ireland at senior level. He was also a member of the Under 25 feeder team that won a silver medal at last year's World Championship in Hungary. Meanwhile, three summer camp graduates, Conor Fitzharris from Horeswood who is 'eager to learn with loads of potential', Michael Urbanski, 'a hard worker' from Camross, and Charlie Upton, 'a very talented angler' from Ballycurren, Glenmore, will all be making their first international appearances for Ireland on the Under 15 team. 'There's excitement building across the board and it's great to see the enthusiasm among the team members. We're actively looking for sponsorship and are grateful for the ongoing support from the community,' Mr Browne said. The team will travel to Spain on August 1, with management and parents also making the trip and will set out to practice until the championship takes place on August 8 and August 9.
