What Happened The Last Time Rajat Patidar & Shreyas Iyer Faced Off In A T20 Final?
Last Updated: Rajat Patidar and Shreyas Iyer lead their teams in the IPL 2025 final, aiming to end an 18-year title drought. Royal Challengers Bengaluru skipper Rajat Patidar taking on his Punjab Kings counterpart Shreyas Iyer in the final of a T20 league isn't new. Crowned captains for the first time of both the franchises, Patidar and Iyer trumped some of the big names in the game and are now all set to break an 18-year-long title drought. If we rewind around six months, Patidar and Iyer were going head-to-head in the finals of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, India's premier domestic tournament. Much like IPL 2025, the duo had taken over captaincy responsibilities afresh in this season, with Patidar replacing Shubham Sharma, and Iyer his senior pro Ajinkya Rahane. Iyer won the toss in the SMAT Final and put Madhya Pradesh in to bat first at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium. Having been retained by RCB, most of the stands were cheering for Patidar. But MP were reduced to 6/2 in just the second over as Shardul Thakur picked both the openers. Subhranshu Senapati and Harpreet Singh then added 42 runs for the third wicket before the latter was dismissed by Atharva Ankolekar in the eighth over. MP were soon reduced to 84/4 before Patidar and Venkatesh Iyer added 32 runs for the fifth wicket. The latter was dismissed by Suryansh Shedge in the 13th over, followed by a 56-run partnership for the sixth wicket between Patidar and Rahul Batham. After the latter was dismissed by Royston Dias in the 18th over, MP couldn't build any more partnerships and managed to post 174/8 in their 20 overs, with Patidar scoring a 40-ball 81, at a stunning strike rate of 202.5. In the chase, Mumbai lost Prithvi Shaw in the second over. Rahane and Shreyas then added 32 runs for the second wicket before the latter was dismissed by Tripuresh Singh in the fifth over. Rahane and Suryakumar Yadav then built a match-winning 52-run partnership for the third wicket before Venkatesh dismissed the former in the 12th over. Mumbai were soon reduced to 129/5 in the 15th over, before Ankolekar and Shedge added 41 runs for the sixth wicket to take their team over the line and bag the trophy. RCB To Win IPL 2025? Fans Convinced Date Of Final Points To Virat Kohli...
Last Updated: RCB and PBKS face off in the IPL 2025 final at Narendra Modi Stadium on June 3, and some think they already know the winner. After 70 league games and three knockout matches, the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 is set to crown a new champion as Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Punjab Kings (PBKS) face off in the final at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Tuesday, June 3. With the date of the final being 03/06/2025, some fans are certain that RCB will be winning the IPL. The reason is that the date numerically adds up to 18, which they infer to mean that RCB's jersey no. 18 – Virat Kohli – will finally be lifting the 18th edition of the IPL. RCB, led by Rajat Patidar, holds an advantage, having defeated PBKS by eight wickets in Qualifier 1 in Mullanpur, New Chandigarh, securing direct entry to the final. However, Punjab, spearheaded by Shreyas Iyer's blistering 87 not out in Qualifier 2 against Mumbai Indians, remains a formidable opponent, their hopes of a maiden title still alive. On paper, both teams boast balanced batting and bowling units. Punjab's batting strength lies in the uncapped duo of Priyansh Arya and Prabhsimran Singh, complemented by experienced players Josh Inglis, Iyer, Nehal Wadhera, Shashank Singh, and Marcus Stoinis. RCB counters with the seasoned opening pair of Virat Kohli and Phil Salt, supported by captain Patidar, Liam Livingstone, Jitesh Sharma, and Krunal Pandya. RCB's bowling attack features Josh Hazlewood, leading with 21 wickets, alongside Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Yash Dayal. Suyash Sharma and Krunal Pandya provide spin options. For Punjab, Arshdeep Singh and Kyle Jamieson lead the pace attack, supported by Stoinis, Azmatullah Omarzai, and Vijaykumar Vyshak. Yuzvendra Chahal and Harpreet Brar are their key spinners. Both teams have experienced batting collapses against each other this season. RCB faltered against Punjab in a league stage clash at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, while Punjab suffered a similar fate in Qualifier 1 in New Chandigarh. As the tournament culminates, fans can anticipate a thrilling final between the two best teams of the 2025 season. Both sides have endured long waits to reach the final of this prestigious league. Punjab last appeared in the 2014 final, while RCB's last appearance was in 2016, losing to Sunrisers Hyderabad. This is also the first time since 2022 that the tournament will have a new winner.
