Germany vs Portugal: Can Portugal end 25-year winless run?

Yahoo04-06-2025
Germany face Portugal in the semi-finals of the UEFA Nations League this evening.
The Allianz Arena in Munich hosts the clash, with Germany boasting home advantage in the first of the semi-final clashes. Home territory might not be the only advantage for the Germans, however, who enter the contest with superb record in this fixture.
Germany have not lost to Portugal since a 3-0 defeat in the group stage of the 2000 European Championship. A Sérgio Conceição hat-trick earned a largely rotated Portugal team an emphatic win, as holders Germany exited the competition without a win and bottom of the group.

Since then, it's been a one-sided rivalry. Germany have won each of the last five encounters, each of which have come in major tournaments. The most recent came at Euro 2020 (held in 2021), as Germany came from behind to thrash the Portuguese 4-2 in the group stage.
Such has been Germany's record in this fixture, no current Portugal player has ever beaten the Germans in an international fixture. That includes Cristiano Ronaldo, whose debut for the national team came 22 years ago.
Tonight's tie is the first meeting outside a major tournament for 29 years. The winners will face either France or Spain in the final. That semi-final between the two previous winners of the Nations League takes place on Thursday.
Germany vs Portugal head-to-head record since Euro 2000
Germany 3-1 Portugal (2006 FIFA World Cup)
Germany 3-2 Portugal (2008 European Championship)
Germany 1-0 Portugal (2012 European Championship)
Germany 4-0 Portugal (2014 FIFA World Cup)
Portugal 2-4 Germany (2020 European Championship).

Ohio State president Ted Carter named to NCAA Board of Governors

On Thursday, the NCAA announced some new appointees to its Board of Governors, and one of those names included was Ohio State president, Ted Carter. The board, though not nearly as powerful as before, is a collection of influential individuals who help shape the landscape of college sports. Carter was appointed as the 17th president of Ohio State by the OSU Board of Governors on August 22, 2023. Before that, he served in the same capacity at Nebraska. He is a former college athlete himself, having played ice hockey at Navy from 1977 to 1981, lettering all four years. Carter will serve a two-year stint on the Board of Governors. The appointment is a significant one, especially considering all the changes that we've seen in college athletics over the last few years. Having a voice from Ohio State involved in the room can't do anything but help. UNC basketball makes top six for power forward

UNC basketball named in top six for four-star recruit Hubert Davis and the North Carolina Tar Heels have taken a step forward in the recruitment for a big four-star forward in the 2026 recruiting class. On Saturday, the Tar Heels were named one of six programs that four-star prospect Quinn Costello is set to focus on in his recruitment. Costello cut his list of 29 offers to his final six of North Carolina, Purdue, Minnesota, Michigan State, Texas and Michigan. Costello has been a top riser this Summer with his play on the AAU circuit, impressing coaches with his play. That has also led to increased interest from several programs as his recruitment now moves forward. The 6-foot-10, 195-pound Costello hails from Boston and plays at the Newman School. He's ranked No. 70 nationally, the No. 11 power forward and No. 1 player in the state of Massachusetts per the 247Sports recruiting rankings. He's set to visit Michigan State on September 5th. Ohio Sate football to hire former NFL assistant to defensive staff

According to multiple reports, the Ohio State football program is set to make a hire just three weeks prior to the start of the season. Former NFL assistant, Josh Boyer, appears to be set to join the program, as first reported by ESPN's Pete Thamel. There's little doubt about the connection regarding the hire. Current Ohio State defensive coordinator Matt Patricia has a long history with Boyer while both worked for Bill Belichick and the Patriots. The two began working with each other in 2006, all the way until 2018 when Patricia left to become the head coach of the Detroit Lions. Boyer last post was with the Miami Dolphins as their defensive coordinator from 2020 to 2022. He is a native of Heath, Ohio, and played for Muskingum College before starting his coaching career as a graduate assistant at King's College in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. There has yet to be an announcement from the Ohio State football program on an official title. When that comes, we'll have it for you.
