Germany vs Portugal: Can Portugal end 25-year winless run?
Germany face Portugal in the semi-finals of the UEFA Nations League this evening.
The Allianz Arena in Munich hosts the clash, with Germany boasting home advantage in the first of the semi-final clashes. Home territory might not be the only advantage for the Germans, however, who enter the contest with superb record in this fixture.
Germany have not lost to Portugal since a 3-0 defeat in the group stage of the 2000 European Championship. A Sérgio Conceição hat-trick earned a largely rotated Portugal team an emphatic win, as holders Germany exited the competition without a win and bottom of the group.

Since then, it's been a one-sided rivalry. Germany have won each of the last five encounters, each of which have come in major tournaments. The most recent came at Euro 2020 (held in 2021), as Germany came from behind to thrash the Portuguese 4-2 in the group stage.
Such has been Germany's record in this fixture, no current Portugal player has ever beaten the Germans in an international fixture. That includes Cristiano Ronaldo, whose debut for the national team came 22 years ago.
Tonight's tie is the first meeting outside a major tournament for 29 years. The winners will face either France or Spain in the final. That semi-final between the two previous winners of the Nations League takes place on Thursday.
Germany vs Portugal head-to-head record since Euro 2000
Germany 3-1 Portugal (2006 FIFA World Cup)
Germany 3-2 Portugal (2008 European Championship)
Germany 1-0 Portugal (2012 European Championship)
Germany 4-0 Portugal (2014 FIFA World Cup)
Portugal 2-4 Germany (2020 European Championship).

That match was scoreless all the way into stoppage time before North Macedonia's Bojan Miovski, a forward for Girona in La Liga. However, Wales would quickly answer to force the draw. Belgium has yet to play a qualifying match because the team was playing in the Nations League during the first window. North Macedonia has gotten off to a strong start, but a World Cup berth would still be a surprise considering the team has never played in the tournament before. However, the team has been on a hot streak lately, winning six of its past seven games. Belgium has played in the past three World Cups and finished third back in 2018. However, the team is on a bit of a slide. It won its last match in March against Ukraine, but entered that game with five losses and a draw in the team's previous six contests. The team never looked back. In its second game, things were closer, but the team still came away with a 4-2 win over Israel. The Norwegian team has won four matches in a row overall, last losing to Austria in October in Nations League play. The last time Norway qualified for the World Cup was back in 1998, but the team also has rarely had a player like Erling Haaland, who is the all-time leading goal scorer for the team despite only beginning his national team career in 2019. Italy didn't begin its campaign until now, as it was in the UEFA Nations League quarterfinals. It lost on penalty kicks to Germany in that round. The once-great Italian national team has failed to qualify for the past two World Cups. Can the Italians get a big win on Friday to jump-start their journey to the biggest stage in the world?
