DGP urges people to be cautious about cyber crimes
Vijayawada: With the rapid expansion of internet usage in the digital era, cyber crimes are also increasing at an alarming rate, said DGP Harish Kumar Gupta. He said that cyber attacks on personal information, banking details, and social media accounts have become very common these days and emphasised that every individual should be aware of cyber crimes.
Gupta said cyber crimes can be curbed when every individual becomes aware of cyber safety, refrains from clicking on suspicious links, avoids responding to unknown calls, and never shares banking or personal details.
In a press release on Tuesday, the DGP said in recent times social media accounts are frequently receiving APK (Android Package) files from unknown mobile numbers and groups — examples include: PM KISAN YOJANA No 009.apk, ICICI Bank Credit Card Apply.apk, SBI ekyc.apk, YonoSBI.apk. Some of these APK files contain malware, spyware, or Trojan codes. When users unknowingly click on these APK files, personal information such as bank account details, passwords, contacts, messages, gallery files, etc., gets stolen from their phones and falls into the hands of hackers, the DGP warned. He said these cyber criminals not only empty the victim's bank accounts with a single click but also resort to blackmail using the stolen personal data. Some malicious apps are even capable of stealing OTPs received via SMS.
The DGP narrated a recent incident in which the cyber criminals stole Rs 94,000 from SBI customers. He said recently a farmer from Kanaganapalli area in Sri Sathya Sai district received a fake APK file on WhatsApp with name of PM Kisan Yojana. Assuming it was an official app, the farmer downloaded it, which led to cyber criminals stealing Rs 94,000 from his SBI bank account.
He suggested that the people to install proven antivirus/mobile security applications such as Avast, Norton, Bitdefender, etc., He said people should be cautious while using banking apps, and only conduct transactions through official banking applications. He further urged that anyone who falls victim to cyber crime should immediately call the helpline number 1930 or file a complaint at www.cybercrime.gov.in.

NEW DELHI: Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Wednesday conducted raids at multiple locations across Delhi as part of a money laundering investigation linked to the alleged 'classrooms scam' involving senior Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders and former ministers Manish Sisodia and Satyendar Jain , according to news agency PTI. As the bus slowed at Manikandan Althara near Kottarakkara, Jalaja stood to disembark. Two women, mistaking her movements for an invitation, inched closer to the exit. One even asked, 'Is this Chandamukku?" spotting her uneasy response prompted their retreat — a small detail that later would unravel the theft. Moments later, Jalaja discovered her bag's zip open and the cash missing. Bypassing hesitation, she flagged down an autorickshaw and followed the bus to Chandamukku. Traffic stalled her chase until a vigilant traffic police officer intervened — opening a path and enabling her to close in as the suspects attempted to flee in another auto. Undeterred, Jalaja leapt onto the handle of the moving vehicle, yanked the two women from their seats, and apprehended them by their sarees. Bundles of stolen notes tumbled to the road during the scuffle. The accused — identified as 45‑year‑old Shelvi and her 27‑year‑old daughter Athini from Gobichettipalayam, Tamil Nadu — claimed innocence, asserting the cash 'fell out" of Jalaja's bag. However, police confirmed the duo are notorious habitual thieves, known to operate under various aliases. Authorities found substantial stolen funds hidden in their clothing. Their images have reportedly been circulated across 52 locations in Kerala following earlier incidents. Jalaja, who has served on the panchayat for over a decade and managed RD accounts for about 25 years, credited her decisive reaction for the recovery. 'If I had hesitated even a bit, all the money would have been lost," she told reporters. A man awarded 20 years jail for sexual assault of minor
Nandyal: In a significant legal ruling, the Pocso Court in Kurnool sentenced Telugu Gangadhar, a 32-year-old resident of Regadaguduru village, to 20 years of imprisonment and imposed a Rs 25,000 fine for sexually assaulting a minor. The case ( was registered under Section 376 IPC and Section 5(1) r/w 6 of the Pocso Act. In a press release on Tuesday, the Nandyal police have stated that the incident came to light when the victim's mother, Saroja, noticed her daughter's deteriorating health and took her to Nandyal Government Hospital, where doctors confirmed her pregnancy. Based on the victim's statement, the police arrested the accused and remanded him. The case was thoroughly investigated under the supervision of senior police officials, including then SDPOs C Maheshwar Reddy and Shruti. A charge sheet with testimony from 20 witnesses was filed before the District & Sessions Judge, Pocso Court, Kurnool. The trial, monitored by Nandyal District SP Adhiraj Singh Rana and DSP R Ramanji Naik, led to the prosecution presenting substantial evidence, resulting in the guilty verdict. Special Public Prosecutor CV Srinivasulu effectively argued the case, ensuring justice for the victim. The efforts of investigating officers, including Atmakur Rural CI M Suresh Kumar Reddy and Velugodu SI Suresh Babu, were acknowledged by the district authorities.
