Director Venky Atluri's tentatively titled Suriya 46, starring Suriya and Mamitha Baiju in the lead roles, was launched officially on Monday. The film, produced by Naga Vamsi of Sithara Entertainments, will see the 23-year-old actor work with the 49-year-old Retro actor for the first time. But this isn't the first time they almost acted together. (Also Read: Suriya says people call him 'overacting actor': I can't be Karthi, can't be Meiyazhagan)
Director Bala's film Vanagaan was released in theatres in January this year. However, the film was initially launched in 2022 with Suriya as the lead. He was also supposed to produce it under 2D Entertainment, but later withdrew from the project due to creative differences.
Krithi Shetty and Mamitha also shot for the film, but Arun Vijay, Roshni Prakash and Ridhi eventually starred in it. Mamitha also shot with Suriya for 40 days before exiting the project, something she revealed while promoting her 2024 hit Premalu.
Through the years, Mamitha has also been quite vocal about how big a fan she is of Suriya. In 2022, she spoke to Ginger Media and said, 'Suriya is my favourite person. I respect him so much because he is such a wonderful person. We have a lot to learn from him, like the way he talks and the way he treats people.'
In 2024, she spoke to Rednool and gushed about being a Suriya fan since she was a kid. She said, 'Someone whom I like very much, even from when I was a child, has been Suriya sir. I also like Ajith sir a lot. I've watched all their films.' At the Galatta Nakshatra Awards earlier this year, she reinstated that and said, 'My father and brother would watch a lot of Tamil films when I was growing up. I saw a lot of Suriya sir's films with them.'
Suriya last starred in Karthik Subbaraj's Retro. Suriya 46 will be his first Telugu-Tamil film. Mamitha was last seen in Nikesh RS' Rebel, her Tamil film debut. She will also star in Dude and Jana Nayagan.

Aamir Khan reveals his 90-year-old mother Zeenat Khan will make her debut in 'Sitaare Zameen Par': ‘Meri himmat nahi hogi Ammi ko poochne ki'

Aamir Khan has thrilled fans with the recent revelation that his much-awaited film 'Sitaare Zameen Par' will also feature his sister Nikhat Khan and mother Zeenat Khan . While Nikhat is known for her roles in several films, this marks the acting debut of his mother, Zeenat Khan. Aamir opens up about mother Zeenat Khan's debut Speaking at a media interaction held in Mumbai, Aamir opened up about how his mother came to be a part of the RS Prasanna-directed film. He revealed that his mother had never accompanied him to any film shoot before. One day, as he was about to leave for the shoot, she asked him where he was heading and what the film was about. Sitaare Zameen Par | Title Track 'But on the morning of the song shoot, Ammi called and asked, 'Aap kahaan shooting kar rahe hain? Humko bhi aana hai shooting pe aaj.' So, I said, 'Chaliye, aaiye.' I sent her the car, and my sister brought her to the shoot. She came in a wheelchair. It was a joyful wedding song, and we were having fun shooting it while she watched us,' he shared. Zeenat Khan's reaction when Aamir requested to give a shot As Zeenat Khan sat observing the vibrant wedding sequence being filmed, director RS Prasanna had an idea. He asked Aamir whether his mother would consider appearing in the scene as one of the wedding guests. He suggested it would be lovely to have her be part of the song. Aamir admitted that he didn't feel confident asking his mother to act. 'I told him, 'Tu pagal ho gaya hai? Meri himmat nahi hogi Ammi ko poochne ki, ki film mein kaam karo, shot do. She is very ziddi. She is not going to listen. Don't waste your time.' He kept urging me to at least ask her,' he added. The 'PK' actor finally told his mother that Prasanna wanted her in a shot — and to his surprise, she agreed. 'I was shocked! So, she's there in one or two shots. It's the only film of mine that she has ever been a part of.' Visibly emotional, the actor said the experience was priceless for him, especially as his mother will turn 91 just a week before the film's release. Speaking about his sister, Aamir said that Nikhat plays a character in the film and has a couple of scenes. This marks their first on-screen collaboration, and Aamir hinted they may work together again in the future. Kamal Haasan Files Nomination For Rajya Sabha Seat From Tamil Nadu

Last Updated: Haasan signed and presented the papers to officials at the State Secretariat in Chennai in the presence of Chief Minister MK Stalin. Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) President and famed actor Kamal Haasan on Friday filed nomination papers to contest for the biennial polls to Rajya Sabha from Tamil Nadu which are scheduled for June 19. Haasan signed and presented the papers to officials at the State Secretariat in Chennai in the presence of Chief Minister MK Stalin, Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin, and senior leaders from his party. — Udhay (@Udhaystalin) June 6, 2025 This marks his formal entry into the upcoming upper house contest. Elections for six Rajya Sabha seats from Tamil Nadu are set to be held on June 19. Haasan was initially expected to file his papers earlier but deferred it, reportedly due to the backlash he faced for a controversial comment on the origins of Kannada. Kamal Haasan Controversy The actor landed in a big controversy recently. The South superstar attended the Thug Life audio launch event in Chennai, where he made a statement linking the origins of the Kannada language to Tamil. 'Actor Shivarajkumar is my family living in another state. That's why he is here. That's why when I started my speech, I said 'my life and my family is Tamil'. Your language (Kannada) was born out of Tamil. So you are included in that line," he said. The actor's remarks quickly went viral and triggered backlash from pro-Kannada groups in Karnataka. They not only demanded an apology from Haasan but also a ban on his upcoming movie. However, the actor refused to apologise, saying, 'If I am wrong, I will apologise. If I am not, then I won't." This led to the situation getting escalated as the Karnataka Film Chamber warned that his new film, 'Thug Life', will not see a release in the state unless he apologises for his remark. This prompted Haasan to move the High Court, seeking protection to release the film without disturbance. Taking a stern view, the Karnataka High Court, earlier this week rapped the actor and asked him the basis of his claims, saying that his 'one apology would have solved everything".
