‘Lokah Chapter 1' teaser: Kalyani Priyadarshan steps into superhero role in Dulquer Salmaan-backed flick
The teaser for Lokah – Chapter 1: Chandra, the Malayalam-language action drama produced by Dulquer Salmaan's Wayfarer Films, was released on Monday. The film features Kalyani Priyadarshan in the lead and is being positioned as Malayalam cinema's first attempt at a female-led superhero narrative. It is scheduled for release during the Onam festival season later this year. Directed by Dominic Arun, the film also stars Naslen, known for his role in Premalu, alongside Chandu Salim Kumar, Arun Kurian, and Shanti Balachandran. The teaser suggests a storyline set across two timelines and includes sequences where Priyadarshan's character, named Chandra, appears in stylised action scenes. The narrative appears to connect contemporary events with mythological or historical elements. According to initial details, Lokah – Chapter 1: Chandra focuses on the character of Chandra, whose past seems linked to a legend. Though specifics of the plot have not been officially disclosed, the teaser shows glimpses of a futuristic world and confrontations with armed forces, indicating a science fiction or dystopian setting. Dulquer Salmaan shared the teaser on social media, writing: 'Welcome to the world of Lokah! In theatres this Onam. Teaser out now.' While no confirmation has been made, reports suggest that both Salmaan and actor Tovino Thomas may have cameo appearances in the film. The film's technical team includes music by Jakes Bejoy, cinematography by Nimish Ravi, editing by Chaman Chackko, and action choreography by Yannick Ben. The production appears to be on a larger budget than typical Malayalam releases, suggesting plans for future instalments if the film performs well. Lokah – Chapter 1: Chandra is expected to be released across theatres in Kerala and select national markets later this year.
