Vishnu Manchu is set to release his highly anticipated film 'Kannappa' on June 27, 2025. The movie, featuring stars like Preity Mukherjee,
Akshay Kumar
, Prabhas, Mohanlal, and
Kajal Agarwal
, will be available in multiple Indian languages.
Ahead of the launch, Vishnu and Akshay appeared together in an interview to promote their devotional fantasy-action film.
Akshay Kumar: The Perfect Choice for Lord
Shiva
In his interview with Pinkvilla, Vishnu revealed that while writing the script, Akshay was the only actor he envisioned for the role of Lord Shiva. He felt that Akshay's facial features, demeanor, and overall presence perfectly embodied the character, making him the ideal choice for the part.
Divine
Approval Behind Casting Decision
He further said, "I did have a lot of people ask me if I am sure about Mr Akshay Kumar. I said that he's the only man I can think of. But spiritually speaking, I think it is Lord Shiva who chose him to play this character and not me. I could only propose. I got the approval from Lord Shiva".
Challenges of Portraying Devotional Characters
Manchu discussed the challenges of playing divine roles, noting that such characters are less common in the Hindi film industry but frequently portrayed in South Indian cinema through stories based on the Ramayana, Mahabharata, and other devotional themes.
He believes that portraying these roles requires destiny, explaining that just as he was destined to play Kannappa, it was by Lord Shiva's blessings that Akshay Kumar was chosen to play Lord Shiva.
Akshay Kumar as the Face of Lord Shiva for a New Generation
He also emphasized that for the current generation, Akshay is the definitive representation of Lord Shiva. Kumar expressed that he feels very fortunate and empowered to have been chosen for such a role, acknowledging that opportunities to portray divine figures like Lord
Krishna
or Lord Shiva are rare.
He also highlighted the success of the movie, considering himself one of the luckiest people because of this experience.

Brad Pitt's latest obsession: Girlfriend Ines de Ramon, F1 fever, and why he's crediting her for it
Brad Pitt and Ines de Ramon Brad Pitt may be the face of high-speed drama in the upcoming film F1, but it turns out his personal fascination with the motorsport didn't originate from the racetrack or the cameras. It was love that steered him into the fast lane. At the New York premiere of the film, the 61-year-old actor revealed that it was his girlfriend, Ines de Ramon, 32, who first introduced him to the thrill of Formula One. In a chat with Entertainment Tonight, Pitt smiled and shared, 'Well, she's European, so she already had a taste, you know?' A simple line, but packed with admiration—subtly revealing how Ines influenced his newfound passion. It wasn't Brad showing her the ropes; it was the other way around. During the same conversation, Pitt reflected on a deeper side of his personal philosophy, discussing how he views happiness. When asked about his influence on co-star Damson Idris, the Fight Club actor said, 'Happy is relative, right? If it's fulfilling, if it's rewarding… I think stepping into uncomfortable situations, things that scare you, can bring a sense of achievement. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like これまで配当・償還遅延なし。安心の実績 TECROWD(テクラウド) 登録 Undo I'd definitely add that to Damson's list. Akshay Kumar Dodges Tom Cruise Comparisons: ‘My Stunts Are Inspired By Tom & Jerry'
Last Updated: Akshay, who has long performed his own stunts, laughed when asked about his viral aeroplane sequence from Khiladi 420, which resurfaced around the release of Dead Reckoning. Akshay Kumar, known as Bollywood's original action star, recently credited an unexpected source for inspiring some of his most daring stunts – Tom & Jerry! In a new interview with Pinkvilla, the Housefull 5 actor opened up about drawing action ideas from the classic cartoon duo and also reacted to comparisons with Hollywood icon Tom Cruise. Akshay, who has long performed his own stunts, laughed when asked about his viral aeroplane sequence from Khiladi 420, which resurfaced around the release of Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning. While fans noted similarities between the two plane stunts, Akshay humbly dodged the comparison and instead credited his love for Tom & Jerry as his true influence. 'You know where I draw all this inspiration from? You will not believe it from Tom & Jerry," he said with a smile. Calling it 'the most violent thing," Akshay added, 'It is apparently made for children, but actually, if you look, there is so much action." Recalling how the cartoon influenced specific scenes in his films, Akshay shared, 'I remember Tom coming from the helicopter, hanging and picking up Jerry – I did that in Sabse Bada Khiladi. Then, Tom is hanging on a plane, which is there in Khiladi 420." He even noted a Khatron Ke Khiladi stunt was inspired by a moment where Tom and Jerry enjoy wine mid-air while lying in a hammock beneath a plane. 'It is so violent. Please try to understand — it is a violent film you are showing your children," he quipped. First Published:
