Isco suffers new leg fracture in pre-season friendly
The 33-year-old former Real Madrid star broke his leg in a friendly against Malaga on Saturday.
The club said the injury was a "new non-displaced fracture to the middle third of his left fibula".
Isco, who won the Champions League four times during his spell at Real Madrid, suffered the same injury in May 2024.
He returned last December and helped Betis to sixth in La Liga, and qualification for the Europa League, as well as skippering them in the Europa Conference League final where they lost 4-1 to Chelsea.
His form earned a recall to the Spanish national team for the first time since 2019.
He came on as a substitute and scored in the penalty shootout loss to Portugal in the Nations League final.

Palace's Europa League demotion would ‘devalue the competition', says Henderson

(AP pic) LONDON : Crystal Palace goalkeeper Dean Henderson said that the club's drop from the Europa League would 'devalue the competition', as they await the Court of Arbitration for Sport's (CAS) decision on their appeal against Uefa's ruling in a multi-club ownership case. Palace were demoted to the Conference League, the third-tier European competition, by Uefa's club financial control body in July because John Textor, president of the Eagle Football Group, majority owners of Olympique Lyonnais, also has a controlling stake in the London club. Ligue 1 club Lyon, which also qualified for the second-tier continental competition, was allowed to compete. Palace have appealed to CAS against Uefa's decision to remove them from the Europa League, with a closed-door hearing taken place on Aug 8. A decision is expected today. 'We win the FA Cup, we are justified to be in the Europa League,' Henderson told BBC Radio 5 Live after leading Palace to a FA Community Shield victory over Premier League champions Liverpool yesterday. 'For football purposes, we deserve to be in the Europa League. I think it would devalue the competition unfortunately if we weren't in the Europa League.' Palace said in June that New York Jets co-owner Robert Wood 'Woody' Johnson had signed a legally binding agreement to buy Eagle Football Holding's stake in the club. Palace, however, missed the March deadline to comply with the multi-club ownership rules before winning the FA Cup in May to earn their place in European competition. 'I know the chairman (Steve Parish) has fought hard against it and fingers crossed we are in the Europa League like we deserve to be,' Henderson, 28, said. 'I am sure they will see sense and put us back in the Europa League.'

LONDON: Liverpool begin their bid for a record 21st English title on Friday, with Arne Slot's revamped side installed as favourites to retain the Premier League crown. Arsenal and Manchester City are the main contenders to end Liverpool's reign, while Chelsea and Manchester United have questions to answer. AFP Sport looks at five talking points ahead of the start of the 2025-26 season: When Liverpool host Bournemouth in the opening match of the top-flight season, the Reds will put on display an expensively overhauled team carrying great expectations. Liverpool haven't been crowned champions in successive campaigns since 1982-83 and 1983-84. Emulating the feat of Kenny Dalglish, Ian Rush and company would take the Anfield club past Manchester United into sole possession of the most English titles.
