Wydad Casablanca's Club World Cup Kit Ranks Second Best in the Athletic's List

Morocco World8 hours ago

Rabat – The Athletic, a subscription-based sports outlet of the New York Times, ranked Morocco's Wydad Casablanca home kit for the FIFA Club World Cup as the second best among all teams participating in the global tournament.
'Whatever the approach of each of these Club World Cup competitors, nothing can spare them from the critical eye of Athletic's Nick Miller, who has ranked all 32 home strips from worst to best,' the New York Times wrote.
Miller ranks Wydad Casablanca's home kit as the best second jersey featured on the list.
Using a photo of Moroccan star Nordin Amrabat wearing the jersey, The Athletic's Miller describes WAC's home kit as 'proper stuff.'
'You often read stories about how, when newly-formed clubs were figuring out what colours to wear, they chose something they thought would intimidate the opposition,' the author said, noting that Wydad Casablanca's jersey features bold lines, bright red colors, and tight cuffs.
'This lot from Morocco looks like they mean business,' he added.
Wydad Casablanca's debut in the tournament this year will take place on Wednesday at 5 p.m. Moroccan time.
The opponent? It's Manchester City. Yes, you heard it right.
The Moroccan club is in Group G, which features other giants, including Juventus.
The second game in the first phase will be against the Italian giant next week on Sunday. On June 26, Wydad will play against Al Ain at 8 p.m.
For Miller, the best home kit is that of ES Tunis.
'This shirt is simply magnificent. A stunner, a beauty, you feel like applauding – which would be weird, but still,' Miller from the Athletic said.
Among the worst-ranked home kits, Chelsea tops the list, followed by Bayern and Auckland City.
Inter Milan is ranked 29th. Al Ahly ranks 23 on the list.
'One danger with having a repeated template, apart from just making yourself look quite unimaginative, is that you end up with a team who look like they are wearing another club's shirt- as if they've showed up for an away game and the kit man has clean forgotten to bring their gear,' Miller wrote on Al Ahly's home kit.
For the author, Al Ahly's jersey looks a 'lot like Benfica's from a few years ago.'
The FIFA Club World Cup kicked off today with a goalless 0-0 draw. Tags: el ahly vs wydadhe Wydad Athletic Club

How Much Was French Montana Paid for Club World Cup Opening Ceremony?

The 2025 FIFA Club World Cup opened in Miami with fireworks, choreography and a music show from French Montana. The Moroccan rapper took centre stage at Hard Rock Stadium, joining Swae Lee to deliver their global hit Unforgettable . The pair headlined a lively opening ceremony, setting the tone for FIFA's first-ever expanded 32-team club tournament. FIFA hasn't confirmed what it paid for the star-studded show, but industry sources suggest French Montana could have earned up to $2 million for the night – a figure in line with what artists like Shakira and Jennifer Lopez reportedly made for previous FIFA events. That fee would typically cover rehearsals, live performance, and rights to use the artist's image across international broadcasts. With sponsors on board and millions watching worldwide, the event was bound to carry a hefty production bill. The ceremony featured multiple acts, including Vikina and Richaelio, and concluded with fireworks and large-scale visuals. Students from Miami Dade College paraded badges of all 32 competing clubs, forming the letters 'FIFA' at the centre of the pitch, while players were introduced individually before kick-off between Inter Miami and Egypt's Al Ahly. Much of the crowd wore 'Messi 10' shirts in Inter Miami's distinctive pink and black colours, and chants of 'Messi, Messi, Messi' echoed throughout the stadium, reminiscent of Argentina's World Cup triumph in Qatar three years ago. FIFA president Gianni Infantino had promised a 'full stadium' and 'incredible atmosphere,' but several empty green seats remained visible despite the announced attendance falling just short of the venue's 65,000 capacity. Infantino was joined in the stands by Brazil's Ronaldo and Italy's Roberto Baggio. Lionel Messi came close to scoring on several occasions, including a bending free-kick that rippled the side netting and had fans momentarily convinced it had gone in. However, Inter Miami were held to a frustrating nil-nil draw in what many considered their most winnable group match. They now face Portuguese side Porto on Thursday in a tougher challenge. Manager Javier Mascherano said the team must 'take it game by game,' adding, 'When we find Leo in the right positions, we create the best chances. Anything can happen in football.' PSG vs Atletico Madrid: When, Where & Score Prediction

Rabat – PSG will go against Atletico Madrid in the Club World Cup for their first match since lifting the Champions League. Kick-off is at 8 p.m. Moroccan time (GMT+1) at the Rose Bowl Stadium in Pasadena, California , and fans can catch the action live on BeIN Sports and TF1 Luis Enrique's men have already departed for the United States on June 10 and are currently in Los Angeles preparing for the game. Two of his players have been injured: Bradley Barcola with a knee injury and Ousmane Dembélé with a hip injury. Atletico Madrid could have an advantage when it comes to player availability since there are no injuries reported and coach Diego Simeone is expecting eight of his international players—Julian Alvarez, Rodrigo de Paul, Giuliano Simeone, Nahuel Molina, Angel Correa, Jose Maria Gimenez, Alexander Sorloth, and Reinildo Mandava—to join the squad in Los Angeles. This first-ever 32-team Club World Cup is Atletico Madrid's last chance to salvage their season with a trophy. PSG, on the other hand, are favourites to lift their fifth title this season – after winning the Ligue 1 championship, Coupe de France, French Supercup, and the UEFA Champions League. Based on their three previous meetings, there is little that separates both sides. This will be the first clash between the European clubs since Atletico recorded a 2-1 win in the Champions League last November. Predicted lineups Atletico Madrid: Oblak; Molina, Witsel, Gimenez, Reinildo; De Paul, Koke, Barrios, Lino; Alvarez, Griezmann. PSG : Safonov; Hakimi, Marquinhos, Pacho, Mendes; Zair-Emery, Vitinha, Neves; Ramos, Asensio, Doue. Score Predictions Even if PSG's Ballon d'Or contender Ousmane Dembélé's presence during this game is uncertain due to a hip injury, MWN thinks that PSG will win 2-1. Achraf Hakimi: PSG is Prepared and Ready for FIFA Club World Cup

Rabat – Morocco's international football player said his club, Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), is well prepared for the FIFA Club World Cup. He made his remarks hours ahead of his team's debut tournament game against Atletico Madrid. PSG will face the Spanish LaLiga giant at 8 p.m. as part of the FIFA Club World Cup, which kicked off last night. 'Everything is going very well!' Hakimi said ahead of the game, noting that his club is taking part in the competition in good shape. 'We're happy and hope to keep this going for a long time, hopefully a month!' Hakimi added. Hakimi said he thinks the team feels good, just as he does. 'We've prepared well over the past few days, and we're ready for our goal, which is to reach the final,' Hakimi concluded. The Atlas Lion had a successful season with PSG, during which he made a milestone, contributing to the club's first-ever Champions League triumph. PSG lifted the Champions League trophy for the first time in May when it defeated Inter Milan 5-0. Hakimi was named the best African player in France's Ligue 1 for the 2024–2025 season. The award, known as the Marc-Vivien Foé Prize, is given by Radio France Internationale (RFI) and France 24. Hakimi also contributed to Morocco's friendly match campaigns. On June 6, he scored the final and winning goal during Morocco's friendly match against Tunisia. Morocco won the match 2-0. Tags: Achraf HakimiBarca versus PSGFIFA Club World Cup
