Cong committed to "Prajala Telangana"; Kharge Rahul's greeting on Statehood Day
New Delhi, June 2 (UNI) Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Monday extended their wishes to the people of Telangana on their Statehood Day, reaffirming the party's commitment to a "Prajala Telangana".
Kharge also praised the UPA government led by Manmohan Singh and Sonia Gandhi, for playing an important role in supporting the will of the people of Telangana.
On his social media handle X, Kharge said, 'Our warm wishes on Telangana Formation Day!'
'11 years ago, the aspirations of millions culminated in the creation of India's youngest state, Telangana. The Congress-UPA, led by Dr Manmohan Singh and Smt Sonia Gandhi, was instrumental in supporting the will of the people of Telangana,' Kharge said.
He further said, 'On this significant day, we respectfully remember the countless martyrs, including students, who gave their lives for the cause of Telangana. The Congress government is strongly committed to a "Prajala Telangana" – a state where social justice, economic empowerment, and continuous progress are assured for all its 3.8 crore people'.
Meanwhile, Rahul Gandhi said, '11 years ago, under the leadership of Dr Manmohan Singh ji and Smt Sonia Gandhi ji, Telangana was born - giving shape to the hopes and dreams of millions. My heartfelt tributes to all who gave their sweat and sacrifice for the Telangana movement'.
'The Congress party stands with you in building a 'Prajala Telangana' - a just, dignified, and prosperous future for every citizen. Our guarantees are a reflection of that unwavering commitment - to every family, to every dream,' Rahul Gandhi said.

HP to charge ₹10 consultation fee from patients in govt hospitals
Shimla: The Himachal Pradesh govt has decided to charge a consultation fee of Rs 10 from all patients at the time of registration in govt hospitals across the state. In a step to strengthen the Rogi Kalyan Samitis across the state, the govt, on the recommendations of the cabinet sub-committee, has authorised Rogi Kalyan Samitis to levy user charges on a need basis. This decision was made to improve the services undertaken by Rogi Kalyan Samitis, including sanitation, hygiene, and maintenance of infrastructure and equipment. The govt's decision to charge Rs 10 as a consultation fee from patients has come under criticism from the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party in the state. Former chief minister and the leader of the opposition, Jai Ram Thakur, said on Wednesday that there is nothing left on earth that the Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu-led Congress govt has not taxed. "When the central govt is providing free testing and treatment, why is the Sukhu govt taking it away?" questioned Thakur. The journey of this fee-imposing govt, which started with toilet tax, has now reached taxing the toilets and washrooms of hospitalised patients, quipped the leader of the opposition. The Sukhu govt has ordered the collection of money from every sick person who reaches the hospital for treatment in an emergency or helpless condition, he stated, adding that the govt must revoke this order at the earliest.

Ex-MLA, Congress leader arrested for ‘derogatory comments' on PM Modi on social media
The Chhattisgarh Police have arrested a serving Congress leader and an ex-MLA for allegedly making 'objectionable' remarks about Prime Minister Narendra Modi on social media. The arrested people have been identified as Arun Tiwari, a 67-year-old ex-MLA formerly associated with the Congress, and Brijmohan Singh, a current Congress leader from Durg district. The arrests have been made in two separate cases. In the first case, Tiwari, a former MLA from Sipat in undivided Madhya Pradesh, was arrested for having made 'objectionable' remarks about the prime minister's estranged wife Jashodaben while speaking about 'Operation Sindoor' on social media. Tiwari, who is no longer with the Congress, was booked under sections section 296 (obscene act) and 352 (intentional insult) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita on the back of a complaint registered on June 2. 'Tiwari was produced before a magistrate court Wednesday and has been remanded to judicial custody. He will be in jail till he is granted bail,' a police officer said. In a similar but unrelated case, Congress leader Brijmohan Singh was arrested under sections 296 (obscene act) and 353 (public mischief) of the BNS for having posted 'abusive comments' on Modi on social media. He has been remanded in judicial custody. Reacting to the arrests, Sushil Anand Shukla, the communications head for the Congress in Chhattisgarh said: 'Arun Tiwari is no longer with the Congress party. Brijmohan ji is a good leader and I do not believe he can use such words. It is either a misunderstanding or it is a conspiracy by the BJP'. The development comes less than a month after Operation Sindoor — India's retaliatory strikes in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir and Pakistan in the aftermath of the April 22 Pahalgam attacks in which 26 people, including a resident of Chhattisgarh's Raipur, was killed.
