Coalition govt flayed for failure to implement ‘Super Six' promises

Vijayawada: APCC president YS Sharmila Reddy on Wednesday lambasted the one-year rule of the TDP-led alliance, labeling it a 'Day of public deception' rather than a true reflection of the people's mandate. She asserted that Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu's administration has twisted the public's revolutionary verdict, which a year ago today brought the alliance to power to end 'Insane, corrupt, and anarchic rule.' Addressing the media, Sharmila accused the government of squandering a year under the guise of 'Reconstruction,' misleading the public with empty promises of 'Setting things right.' 'They put cauliflowers in our ears by saying they were putting things back on track,' she remarked, criticising the government's failure to deliver on its 'Super Six' guarantees. 'They sidelined development citing debt and neglected public welfare by claiming lack of funds,' she charged. Sharmila also pointed to the increased electricity bills, which she said pierced holes in people's pockets. The APCC chief highlighted the government's perceived inaction on key issues, stating, 'There is no accountability for the promises made during bifurcation. Special Category Status was not even requested.' She further criticised the government for remaining silent when the Central government led by the BJP reduced the height of the Polavaram project, calling it a betrayal. Referring to the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant, Sharmila said, 'They promised to revive the Visakha Steel Plant but instead terminated the jobs of 4,000 workers.' She also accused the government of causing 'irreparable injustice' to Muslims by supporting the Waqf Bill. 'Today is not Public Verdict Day. It is 'Andhra Pradesh Public Deception Day,' Sharmila declared. She squarely placed the blame on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu and Deputy Chief Minister K Pawan Kalyan, asserting, 'It is the day Modi, Babu, and Pawan deceived the people of the State in the name of trust.' Sharmila Reddy also took a jab at YSRCP chief Jagan Mohan Reddy. She criticised Jagan Mohan Reddy's actions, stating, 'While Chandrababu Naidu has been backstabbing the people for a year by not implementing the Super Six guarantees, showing false hopes of heaven, and telling fabricated stories instead of implementing schemes, Jagan, by not going to the Assembly to question public issues, not raising his voice on alliance promises, and demanding opposition status through house press meets, is also a backstabber.'

Andhra cabinet okays bill for women to do night shifts in factories

The Andhra Pradesh cabinet chaired by chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Wednesday approved an amendment to the Factories Act, 1948, that will allow women to work night shifts in factories with adequate safety and transport facilities. The cabinet approved amendments to several key sections of the Factories Act, 1948, said state information and public relations minister Kolusu Parthasarathy. 'Accordingly, the AP Factories Amendment Bill, 2025 will be passed in the assembly to reduce procedural burdens on industries. Women will be allowed to work night shifts with adequate safety and transport facilities,' the minister said. According to the bill, women employees would be allowed to work in night shifts between 7pm and 6am. This would be applicable only after obtaining prior written consent of the employees, as well as providing them pick-up and drop off facilities and other security measures, he said. The minister further said that the cabinet felt that there would be increased investments in the industrial sector only if labour laws were relaxed. 'At present, women employees working in factories are entitled to do overtime work only for 50-75 hours every three months. Now, the cabinet has decided to amend the Factories Act, relaxing conditions to enable women employees to do 144 hours of overtime work,' said Parthasarathy. The cabinet also approved the home department's proposal to grant special remission to 17 convicts sentenced to life imprisonment, eligible as on February 1, 2025. The order follows the issuance of permanent guidelines for premature release of prisoners sentenced to life in accordance with orders of the Supreme Court. 'Prisoners who have undergone an actual sentence of 14 years for offences punishable with death and 7 years for offences punishable with life imprisonment are eligible for this remission,' he said. The minister said prisoners released through remission will have to appear before the police station in their jurisdiction once every three months. If the released prisoners commit any crime later, their remission will be cancelled, he added. The cabinet further approved a proposal by the information technology, electronics and communications department for establishment of Andhra Pradesh State Quantum Mission (SQM), under which Quantum Valley will be established in Amaravati for undertaking research in quantum computing, artificial intelligence, and cybersecurity by working with institutions like IIT Madras, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), and IBM. TDP completes 1 year in power, YSRCP marks ‘Betrayal Day'

As the Telugu Desam Party-led coalition government in Andhra Pradesh completed its one year in office on Wednesday, the opposition YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) termed the day as 'Betrayal Day'. While the YSRCP observed 'Betrayal Day' by organising protests in different parts of the state, the TDP and its alliance partners – JanaSena Party (JSP) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) — celebrated it as the 'End of Psycho Regime Day' by cutting cakes and distributing sweets in their respective party offices. YSRCP state coordinator Sajjala Ramakrishna Reddy told reporters that 'Betrayal Day' was a grand success, despite restrictions on taking out processions without permission and raising provocative slogans against the government, being imposed on the party workers as it reflected the ire of the people who felt cheated as none of the poll promises were implemented by the coalition government. 'The people are feeling cheated as the Chandrababu Naidu government has stopped existing welfare schemes and failed to roll out the schemes he had promised before the elections,' Reddy said. He said that Wednesday's protest was only a mild reminder and the swell of support for the YSRCP in the coming days would spell the TDP's doom. 'Health, medical and agriculture sectors are being neglected by the coalition government. Naidu has downsized the number of beneficiaries of various existing schemes drastically,' he added. Meanwhile, chief minister Chandrababu Naidu commemorated the first anniversary of his regime's accession on the social media platform X. He wrote, 'The day when dictators were swept away by the people's revolution.. The day the people drove away the madness that had been unleashed in the name of power... The end of the psycho day every citizen enjoys freedom and peace... The day when democracy was restored in the state by voting like a movement.' 'We are working every day considering the power given by the people a year ago as the responsibility of rebuilding the state,' he added. 'On the occasion of the completion of a year of the unilateral verdict given to change the direction of the state, I bow my head to the people and remember the victory of that time. We promise to undertake many more development and welfare programmes in the next 4 years,' he further said. 'The people's aspirations won a resounding victory over the anarchic and factional rule. This victory is the victory of five crore people,' Naidu's son and state IT minister Nara Lokesh said. He said that the people's verdict further increased the responsibility of our alliance. 'With Naidu's experience in governance and Prime Minister Narendra Modi 's abundant blessings, the reconstruction of Andhra Pradesh has begun,' he asserted. JSP president and deputy chief minister Pawan Kalyan said that exactly a year ago, people of Andhra Pradesh pulled down five years of anarchic rule and feudal autocracy with the power of their vote, and heralded a new chapter in the protection of democracy. 'Under the strong leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is guiding the nation along the path of development, and the seasoned political experience of chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu, who has stood resilient through decades of political turbulence, and with the enduring resolve of JanaSainiks, the people stood by us and delivered this historic victory,' he said. Senior BJP leader and state health minister Y Satya Kumar also recalled the glorious victory the coalition had achieved in the assembly elections on this day last year. 'The coalition is here to stay for many more decades,' he said.
