The land was allotted through Andhra Pradesh Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (APIIC) on lease basis for a period of 99 years. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now The govt also allocated 532 acres to Laurus Labs for a pharma park. Laurus Labs informed the bourses that it has been allotted land at Rambilli Phase-II in Anakapalli district for the setting up of Laurus Pharma Zone that will house manufacturing units for pharma products. The company plans to invest Rs 5,630 crore in the project that is slated to provide employment to 6,350 people in three phases over an eight-year period. LuLu Group earlier expressed interest in setting up a mall in Visakhapatnam and the land was allotted to it by the previous TDP govt. However, the land allotment was cancelled by the subsequent YSRCP govt. LuLu has been given the same land where the original proposal was made to construct the mall. The 13.74 acres allotted to LuLu along the beach road will see the construction of a mega shopping mall in a 13.5 lakh sq ft built-up space. The project has been recognised as a special project with three-year lease exemption and land allotment will be done as per the state's tourism policy. The govt has directed the revenue dept and APIIC to resolve all court cases. In Vijayawada, 4.15 acres of land available with Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) at old bus station has been allocated to LuLu Group for the construction of an integrated shopping mall with 2.23 lakh sq ft built-up space. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now The govt has directed the NTR district collector to look for alternative lands to relocate APSRTC installations and to compensate the corporation with the land that it is losing. Left parties and worker unions are opposing this move as it was in prime location. LuLu Group chairman MA Yousuff Ali said the mega shopping mall will generate over 7,000 jobs and contribute significantly to the economic development of North Andhra region. Meanwhile, retired IAS officer EAS Sharma has written a letter to chief secretary K Vijayanand, stating that allotting valuable land at low price to a private company is against the law and Supreme Court orders. He also claimed the land allotted to LuLu Group comes under CRZ limits. "The govt should not allot lands to private companies at its will. It should take 10% above the market rate if the land is to be allotted for the benefit of the public. The allotment should be investigated by the CBI," Sarma demanded.

Industries Minister visits Kovur sugar factory

Nellore: Industries and Commerce Minister T G Bharath along with Kovur MLA Vemireddy Prasanthi Reddy visited the Kovur Co-operative Sugar Factory Limited (KCSFL) located at Pothireddy Palem village in Kovur mandal on Tuesday. On this occasion, the Minister sought to know the reasons related to closure of KCSFL and why the Sugarcane Farmers Associations (SFA) was not handed over land to the Andhra Pradesh Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (APIIC). Mentioning the circumstances that led to the closure of KCFCL, Kovur MLA Vemireddy Prasanthi Reddy said that Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu agreed to pay the Rs 28 crore arrears to the workers in order to facilitate reopening of KCSFL. The MLA appealed to the Minister to initiate steps to see that the APIIC gets the possession of 124 acres of land related to KCSFL, so that more industrial units could be set up. It may be recalled that the KCSFL was established under Nellore Co-operative Sector (NCS) at Pothireddypalem village of Kovur mandal in 1979. It functioned well for three decades providing direct and indirect employment to around 10,000 people. It has also contributed to the economic growth of sugarcane farmers belonging to 15 mandals of Kovur, Kavali and Nellore Rural constituencies. The factory has remained closed for past 13 years due to severe financial crisis. After the coalition government came to power last year, MLA Vemireddy Prasanthi Reddy raised the issue on the floor of the Assembly several times. Following her plea, Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu at a recent meeting assured to pay Rs 28 crore to the workers.

RTC opposes APIIC move to allot Governorpet depot land to Lulu Group in Vijayawada

VIJAYAWADA: The Andhra Pradesh Industrial Infrastructure Corporation's (APIIC) proposal to transfer five acres of APSRTC land at the Governorpet-II bus depot in the heart of Vijayawada city to Lulu Group has hit a roadblock with APSRTC officials strongly objecting to the move. After the TDP-led NDA came to power in the State, the UAE-based Lulu Group revived its interest in investing Rs 1,222 crore to establish shopping malls and hypermarkets in Visakhapatnam and Vijayawada. An MoU was signed with the State government, promising to create employment opportunities for nearly 2,000 people in the two cities. In line with this plan, the government recently instructed the Visakhapatnam Metropolitan Region Development Authority (VMRDA) to hand over 13.43 acres of land on Beach Road to APIIC for leasing it to Lulu Group. 'Alternative site not feasible for RTC operations' Subsequently, APIIC had identified the Governorpet-II RTC depot in Vijayawada as a potential site for another commercial venture. Located beside the Ryves Canal, the Governorpet-II depot RTC houses buses from the adjacent Governorpet-I depot, and accommodates administrative offices. APIIC Managing Director Abhishek Kishore has formally requested APSRTC Vice-Chairman and Managing Director Ch Dwaraka Tirumala Rao to allot the land to Lulu Group. However, APSRTC officials have raised red flag. 'We are not in favour of handing over this strategically significant property, currently valued at around Rs 300 crore. The alternative site in Gollapudi is not operationally feasible for us,' a senior official told TNIE on the condition of anonymity. 'Ironically, the proposed site is unsuitable for Lulu Group's commercial operations due to its narrow shape with a canal on one side, and the busy Eluru Road on the other,' sources maintained. Adding to the complexity, a portion of the depot was previously converted into a sculpture park using iron scrap by the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation. Sources indicate that this area could also be bundled into the proposed land allocation. It may be recalled that the Governorpet-II RTC depot once served as the primary bus stand in Vijayawada before the construction of Pandit Nehru Bus Station (PNBS) in 1990 during the reign of the then Chief Minister NT Rama Rao. If APIIC's proposal materialises, the depot will be a thing of history, marking an end of the city's landmarks.

Waqf board clears lease of 2,000 cr Guntur land

Vijayawada: Amid objections from some of its members, the Andhra Pradesh Waqf Board has decided to lease out 233 acres of prime Waqf land in Guntur city to the Andhra Pradesh Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (APIIC) for the development of an MSME park. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now The land, valued at approximately 2,000 crore, will be sub-leased by APIIC to private industries. The waqf board chairman Abdul Azeez defended the move saying that that they were not selling the land to APIIC in order to protect the land title. The board has resolved to give the land on long-term lease to APIIC. "We are giving the land on lease without changing ownership and title. Chief minister Chandrababu Naidu has instructed us to ensure that board earns steady income to take up welfare activities for the minorities," said Abdul Azeez. Sources said the state got had directed the waqf board to transfer the land to APIIC to avoid controversy over direct allocation to private entities. However, some board members expressed strong opposition, arguing that leasing the land is tantamount to losing it permanently. "It will be extremely difficult to reclaim the land once leased, especially if tenants default on rent," said board member and YSRCP MLC Mohammed Ruhulla. Board chairman Abdul Azeez turned down the charge saying that they would take all possible measures to protect the land title. He alleged that the previous YSRCP govt had failed to help waqf board make revenue even from the central schemes. He alleged that previous regime diverted 386 crore of Waqf funds.
