New Delhi, The Delhi government has provisionally shortlisted schools for the 75 newly announced CM Shri Schools , which are expected to become operational in the coming weeks, Education Minister Ashish Sood said on Thursday."Most of the CM Shri Schools have been shortlisted. These schools will start functioning soon, and preparations to operationalise them are currently underway," Sood said.He also said that the Delhi Board of School Education (DBSE) is being phased out, and the schools affiliated with it will now shift to the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE).Several existing government schools are being upgraded and developed into CM Shri Schools.According to an official, the upcoming schools are designed to be sustainable and environmentally friendly, operating as zero-waste and solar-powered campuses."These schools will have AI-enabled libraries , smart classrooms equipped with Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR) tools, smartboards, and biometric attendance systems," the official said.The schools will also feature robotics laboratories to foster interest in the field among students, he added.The Directorate of Education has already initiated the recruitment process for teaching and leadership positions in these schools.In a circular issued on June 5, the department invited applications from teachers, Post Graduate Teachers (PGTs), Trained Graduate Teachers (TGTs), Primary Teachers (PRTs), and other teaching staff, having at least five years before they retire.Another circular issued on June 10 opened applications for principals and vice-principals who wish to transfer to the new schools, with the same retirement conditions.According to Chief Minister Rekha Gupta's Delhi Budget speech, a corpus of Rs 100 crore has been allocated for setting up these schools.Modelled after the central government's PM Shri schools, the CM Shri schools will follow the National Education Policy 2020 and implement the National Curriculum Framework 2023.PTI SHB VN VN

"Free electricty for all Kanwar camps": Delhi Minister Ashish Sood
New Delhi [India], June 24 (ANI): Delhi Minister Ashish Sood on Tuesday said that the state government has announced free electricity for all Kanwar camps so that they don't face inconvenience. He added that the government would ensure security arrangements for them. 'For a long time, Kanwar committees have been demanding better arrangements for them... We have announced free electricity for all Kanwar camps in Delhi for the convenience of all lord Shiva devotees. These Kanwar camps will receive free electricity... Along with free electricity, robust security arrangements will also be made for them,' Sood told reporters here As the national capital gears up for the Kanwar yatra, the Delhi cabinet has decided that Kanwar committees will be getting funds directly from the Delhi government through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT), Chief Minister Rekha Gupta announced today. CM Gupta also slammed the previous Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government for alleged corruption in giving funds for the yatra, claiming that there had been numerous complaints from the committees about facilities not being ready for them. 'In the name of giving services to all the Kanwar Yatris, the previous government has made this work the spot of corruption. Only 2-3 people used to take the tender for the whole of Delhi. Committees of Kanwar Yatris told us that till the last day, tents were not put up... We have decided that all the Kanwar committees will get funds through direct benefit transfer from the Delhi government,' CM Gupta said during a press conference here. On June 17, the Chief Minister convened a high-level review meeting to discuss the preparations for the upcoming Kanwar Yatra 2025, focusing on planning, arrangements, and facilities for the devotees during the yatra. In a post on X, the Delhi Chief Minister's Office (CMO) stated that the meeting was held with the focus on ensuring a seamless and respectful experience for the lakhs of Shiv bhakts expected to participate. Gupta directed that every devotee should receive respect, facilities, and security, emphasising that the event is not only a festival of faith but also an opportunity for service and dedication. 'The Chief Minister directed that it should be ensured that every Shiv devotee gets respect, facilities and security. She said that Kanwar Yatra is not only a festival of faith but also an opportunity for service and dedication. The Delhi government will ensure its organisation with devotion, arrangements and sensitivity,' the CMO's statement read. Following the meeting, the Delhi CM detailed the setup of Kanwar camps across Delhi, with a focus on improving the infrastructure and services compared to previous years under the AAP government. She noted that the camps are scheduled to operate from July until Sawan Shivratri. In the Kanwar Yatra procession, Kanwariyas collect water from a river and carry it hundreds of kilometres to offer it to the shrines of Lord Shiva. According to Hindu beliefs, Parshuram, a devotee of Shiva and Lord Vishnu's avatar participated in the initial procession. Devotees across the country perform worship, fasting and pilgrimage dedicated to the Lord Shiva. (ANI)

India has moved from tech follower to global leader in science & innovation: Jitendra Singh
New Delhi: Minister of State for Science and Technology Jitendra Singh on Monday said India has transformed into a global leader in science and technology over the past decade driven by a political climate that enabled scientific risk-taking and innovation. Speaking at a press conference following detailed presentations by four major science departments, Singh said, "The last 11 years turned technology into the engine of India's growth story. More importantly, we are no longer a technology follower but a technology leader." India is now setting global best practices in science and innovation rather than waiting to adopt them from abroad, he added. The minister credited this shift to a "supportive political dispensation" after 2014 that allowed scientists the freedom to experiment even when success wasn't guaranteed. "What a scientist needs most is the liberty to try and that space was given to us by the hon'ble prime minister," he said, pointing to reforms like opening up space and nuclear sectors to private participation and encouraging global collaborations. Emphasising that India never lacked talent but previously lacked policy support, Singh said the country had moved away from working in silos and was now witnessing convergence between public and private sectors. "In other countries, there is no hard demarcation between public and private in scientific work. We have started moving in that direction," he noted. Ajay Sood , Principal Scientific Adviser (PSA) to the Government of India, echoed the minister's remarks and praised the transformative shift in India's science and technology landscape. "You would have all noticed that in the last 11 years, science and technology has moved from the sidelines to the centre stage of national development," said Sood, adding that four science departments had clearly demonstrated this journey through their presentations. He explained that the office of the PSA plays a key role in providing evidence-based and ministry-agnostic scientific advice to the prime minister and the Cabinet, identifying gaps and recommending national missions. "We are not tied to any one ministry. Our focus is on mapping the entire scientific landscape and ensuring cross-sectoral coordination," Sood said. He noted that under the Prime Minister's Science, Technology and Innovation Advisory Council (PM-STIAC), 11 targeted national missions, including the National Quantum Mission , National One Health Mission, Deep Ocean Mission, and the Green Hydrogen Mission, have been initiated. These were based on identified priority areas and implemented by the concerned departments for coordinated national impact. Sood also highlighted the significance of the Anusandhan National Research Foundation (ANRF), calling it "a very, very important initiative" that had its genesis in early discussions within the PSA office before its formal rollout last year.
