Doctor says your cramps and migraines are not really random: 'They could be signs your body is low on...'
If you've ever blamed that morning stiffness on 'just getting older' or brushed off random cramps and migraines as no big deal, it might be time to look a little deeper. According to Dr Kunal Sood, MD, Anesthesiology, these everyday aches and pains might actually be your body's way of waving a red flag and they're far from random. (Also read: Doctor shares 6 eye care tips to protect your vision during latest COVID-19 surge: 'Avoid unnecessary touching' ) In his May 31 Instagram post, Dr Sood breaks down the hidden signals our bodies send when something's off. 'If you live with pain and can't figure out where it's coming from, here's what most people don't get told,' he writes. He further breaks down what many people miss about pain and why understanding its root cause can be a game-changer for your health. A post shared by Kunal Sood, MD (@doctorsoood) If your joints feel achy and stiff when you wake up but ease up as the day goes on, don't just blame it on wear and tear. 'That pattern points to inflammation, not just getting old,' explains Dr Sood. In conditions like rheumatoid arthritis, the immune system tends to become more active overnight, which is why mornings can feel especially rough. Gentle movement helps circulate joint fluid and quiet down those inflammatory signals, which is why you start to feel better after getting out of bed. Think your cramps or migraines are just random? Think again. 'These might actually be signs your body is low on magnesium,' says Dr Sood. Magnesium plays a crucial role in muscle function and nerve signalling. When levels dip, which happens more often than you'd expect, muscles can misfire, leading to cramps. In the brain, low magnesium can destabilise blood vessels, triggering migraines. This is especially common in people who deal with high stress, poor sleep, or who engage in intense workouts. Pain doesn't just hurt, it changes how your brain works. 'Long-term pain can shrink parts of your brain,' Dr Sood explains. MRI studies have shown reduced grey matter in areas responsible for processing pain and regulating emotions. The good news? 'It's reversible.' When pain is managed properly, the brain can start to recover and heal itself. That's a powerful reason to take chronic pain seriously and treat it proactively. Not all pain stems from a visible injury. 'Sometimes, it's how you sit, move, or carry stress,' says Dr Sood. Poor posture or muscle imbalances can compress nerves, leading to symptoms like tingling, burning, or aching, even when there's no clear injury. In many cases, you don't need scans or meds just a closer look at your daily posture and movement habits might do the trick. 'Pain is complex, but it's not random,' Dr Sood concludes. 'The more you understand where it's coming from, the more control you get back.' Whether it's morning stiffness, sudden cramps, or migraines that just won't quit, your body might be trying to tell you something. And listening could be the first step toward real relief. ‘It is time Delhi govt schools became parents' first choice': CM Rekha Gupta felicitates CBSE Class 10, 12 toppers
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta handed out tablets to 87 CBSE toppers from classes 10 and 12 in various government schools at a Pratibha Samman Samaroh or felicitation ceremony held Friday at Rajkiya Pratibha Bal Vikas Vidyalaya, Rajpur Road. While 16 of the students were from Class 10, as many as 71 were from Class 12. Twenty government schools, which recorded 100 per cent pass, were also gifted computers during the ceremony. Commending the toppers, Gupta said, 'Students have achieved this milestone through dedication, discipline, and relentless effort… The Delhi Government is proud of all of you,' adding that she studied at a government school in Ashok Vihar. 'If you have the will, a clear vision, and the zeal to work hard, no goal is too far.' 'It is time that Delhi government schools become the first choice for parents. Just as people consider government colleges like Delhi University a world-class destination for higher education, our schools too must become symbols of pride and excellence at the school level,' the chief minister said. With the BJP government completing 100 days, Gupta shared key policy decisions after congratulating all officials, teachers, parents, and students for 'the transformative steps taken in the education sector.' The chief minister underlined that under the new government, the school administration, infrastructure, modern libraries, smart classrooms, digital services, and multilingual education has seen an overhaul. The government's efforts would also help students compete nationally and globally, she added. The chief minister also criticised the previous Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government for 'excluding underperforming students to artificially improve results,' while claiming that the BJP government is committed to ensuring inclusive education. Delhi Education Minister Ashish Sood, who addressed the gathering, praised the role of mothers in the students' success. He said, 'Behind every student achieving excellence in Delhi today is the tireless support of a mother.' Noting an existing imbalance between private and government schools in Delhi, the minister said, 'But now the situation is changing. Under the chief minister's leadership, the government is bringing wide-ranging reforms to the education system.' Sood also reaffirmed that 75 new CM Shri Schools will be opened this year in Delhi, featuring 'state-of-the-art infrastructure, experiential learning, and integration of values rooted in Indian culture.' These schools will be positioned as national models of excellence, he said. In addition, Sood said, 'Our goal is to ensure that students in government schools have access to the same high-quality facilities as those in private schools. Every child deserves a fair opportunity, and education must be the path to their brighter future.'

Delhi govt cracks down on private school fee hikes, plans ordinance
The Delhi government is preparing to introduce an ordinance within a week to regulate fees in private schools, aiming to curb arbitrary hikes and strengthen oversight. The draft, part of the proposed Delhi School Education Bill, 2025, includes penalties of up to ₹50,000 for violations and provisions for the confiscation of school property in repeat offences. According to a report by news agency ANI, the draft ordinance has already been sent to the Law Department for vetting. It proposes the formation of committees at the school, district, and review levels to assess and approve fee structures. The bill was initially scheduled for presentation during a special legislative session on May 13–14, which was later cancelled. It is now expected to be tabled as a full bill in the upcoming Monsoon Session. DPS Dwarka incident triggers public outrage The move follows mounting concerns over unregulated fee hikes, particularly after a controversy involving DPS Dwarka, where several students were reportedly expelled for failing to pay increased fees. The Delhi High Court intervened, terming the school's actions 'inhuman' and ordering the reinstatement of affected students upon partial payment of the hiked fee. Parents alleged that 'bouncers' were deployed to block entry, and some students were confined to the library. Show-cause notices served to defaulting schools On April 16, the government issued show-cause notices to 10 schools accused of arbitrary fee increases and failing to submit mandatory audit reports. So far, the government has collected audit reports from 600 schools, though the names of the penalised institutions have not been disclosed. New audit framework and corruption checks planned Delhi Education Minister Ashish Sood earlier told ANI that a 'strong documentation system' would be established to scrutinise past approvals of fee hikes, investigate potential corruption, and prevent future malpractice. 'We will not tolerate any such malpractice under any circumstances,' he said. 'We aim to collect audit reports from all 1,670 schools in Delhi. There will be no room for dishonesty,' Sood had said. Chief Minister vows to protect students and parents Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has also reiterated the government's commitment to ensuring fair treatment of parents and students. She has stated that unauthorised fee hikes and harassment will not be tolerated under her administration.
