Jess Wright makes devastating confession about postnatal depression struggle

Daily Mirror09-05-2025

Jessica Wright has shared her experience with postnatal depression following the birth of son Presley in May 2022 in a bid to reduce the stigma around maternal mental health
Jess Wright has opened up about suffering from 'debilitating' post-natal depression following the birth of her son three years ago. The TOWIE star said she wanted to challenge the taboo of maternal mental health in a new film for BBC Morning Live, which she said was 'extremely triggering' to make.
In May 2022, Jess welcomed her son Presley with William Lee-Kemp, and began to develop depression in a way she had 'never' experienced before. In the film, set to air today, she said: 'It was debilitating, I couldn't enjoy anything with my new son and I wanted the world to stop so I could get off.'

One in five women develop a mental illness during pregnancy or in the first year after childbirth, according to the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists. Jess said that the topic was 'extremely close' to her heart, adding: 'When @bbcmorninglive and I discussed exploring maternal mental health, as hard as I knew it was going to be, it was never a question in my head, the answer was always going to be yes.'

In the film, the 39-year-old says: "Since my mid-20s I've lived with depression and anxiety. I take medication which generally keeps it under control. However, a few days after I had my son Presley I developed depression in a way I'd never experienced before.'
Jess explained that she was not given clear advice about her medication during her pregnancy, saying: 'It was quite a grey area when I was pregnant, about the medication that I'm on, whether I should come off it when I'm pregnant.' She adds: "Having a baby is wonderful but also tough for many people. But knowing where to turn for support has helped me feel better prepared if I decide to have another child."
Less than two years after Presley's birth, Jess and William went through a difficult period after learning that their son had a rare heart condition which would require him to undergo open heart surgery. In an interview with OK! Jess said: 'The world just stopped moving for me.'
Receiving the news that Presley had a Bicuspid Aortic Valve, a congenital heart disease, was 'tough'. Jess said: 'Just before his second birthday, we took him for a routine appointment about what we thought was a chest infection and the doctors said they had found a heart murmur. They said it was likely to be nothing to worry about, and common in a lot of children, but to get it checked anyway.'
A month later, their fears were confirmed when the doctor revealed that Presley had a problem with his heart. 'We just sat there and you could see from the doctor's face that he was about to tell us something really big and life-changing,' she said.
'I just dreaded what was going to come out of his mouth, and then, lo and behold, the words 'open heart surgery' came out. It was extremely tough and something that we're still taking our time to get over and used to - I'm not sure we ever will. I just remember sitting in between my mum and my husband and thinking, 'I'm going to fall on the floor'. I couldn't even kind of hold myself up.'

Completing her look with her glasses, Chloe scrolled on her phone as she attempted to get in contact with someone to fix her car. Meanwhile Jack also kept it simple in a grey Nike T-shirt, beige joggers and white trainers. The couple last called it quits on their relationship back in April following 'a stressful year' after the Love Island star overturned his jail sentence. However now The Sun revealed over the weekend that the pair were back on after they were spotted shopping together at Swanley Market in Kent. A source told the publication: 'Chloe and Jack have been on and off for months but have finally put their differences aside to give their relationship another chance. 'They really want to make it work so have been enjoying some lowkey dates as they gradually build the trust. 'They have realised they have something special so want to put their time and energy into making it work.' Things appear to be back on with the couple after they were spotted coming out of the Sainsbury's together in Grays, Essex MailOnline have contacted Jack and Chloe's representatives for comment. Last week they sparked rumours of a reconciliation when they shared snaps on their respective Instagrams from the same East London market. Taking a visit to Columbia Road Flower Market, Jack shared a snap outside the Birdcage pub. Chloe then also posted a snap from the same spot as she posed with a huge bouquet of flowers. The pair previously moved into their first home together back in May 2024 and even created a joint account to share their home updates. However in April Chloe announced she was once again single and wanted to 'focus on myself', as they prepared to move into separate homes. During a Q&A session with her Instagram followers, Chloe was asked if she is still in a relationship. She responded: 'No I'm not in a relationship anymore... just want to focus on myself and the things that make me happy.' When asked if she was moving in with Jack, she explained: 'No I am moving to Brentwood on my own... I can't wait to show you all my little place it's so pretty' They currently live in Romford, but Chloe reportedly 'misses the Essex buzz,' while Jack is hoping to move to Kent. In another Instagram Stories, she added: 'I wanna give myself a cuddle after the last year I've had... only way is up from here'. Jack previously said he doubted his relationship with Chloe was over for good, and it appeared Chloe feels the same. She admitted: 'I'm sure he would like to go back to that time in our relationship, as would I to some extent. 'Obviously I'm focusing on moving out and things going on in my career and Jack is focusing on a lot of things going on in his. 'I wish him well and we'll always be involved in each other's lives to some extent, whether romantically or in a friendship way, but as of right now I'm focusing on myself.' 'I've seen a lot about us slamming each other, I can assure you that is definitely not what is going on. 'Me and Jack have been in each other's lives for a really long time, six nearly seven years now, and we tried living together and it didn't work for multiple reasons, not because of my OnlyFans at all.'

TikTok star heartbroken as family tragedy struck before 'Nanny Norma' death

Little Mix star Jade Thirlwall leads tributes as Nanny Norma - star of the TikTok account Jess And Norma - dies suddenly at the age of 91 Everyone's favourite TikTok nana, Nanny Norma, has died at the age of 91, her devastated granddaughter has confirmed. Jess Asquith, who along with Norma Burton had built up a following of 2.7 million on their joint TikTok account JessAndNorma, shared the tragic news with fans after Norma died "peacefully" last Thursday. ‌ But, in a heartbreaking twist, Norma's death is the second devastating loss in just a number of weeks for the poor family. "05/06/2025 the day our family lost our rock, our everything, our beautiful, precious, perfect lady," she wrote on their social pages. "We are all truly devastated and our lives will never be the same. ‌ "We want you all to know that Nan fell to sleep peacefully, surrounded by all her family, she was full of love and had the most beautiful care. If anyone deserves a place in heaven, it's you Nanny Norma. "Social media and our community online made Nan's last years so incredibly special, her cup was full and in her own words she 'lived such a wonderful life'. "91 years was never going to be enough and she has left the biggest hole in all of our hearts. Reunited with her husband and family, until we meet again, our queen." Little Mix star Jade Thirlwall was among the first to pay tribute to Nanny Norma, writing to Jess: "Sending you and your family so much love. Norma brought so much joy to so many, she reminded me of my own Nanna (I would sometimes watch your videos with tears of joy) and helped me heal, as I'm sure is the case for so many people on here. What a special lady and family you are." ‌ And another follower wrote: "I've never cried for anyone on a social platform , I'm not ashamed to admit I'm sobbing my eyes out right now , norma you was so special, I hope you know how many peoples hearts you touched, rest in peace you abosutley beautiful soul of a lady... I know God has a special place in heaven for you." A third commented: "Rest in peace to our TikTok nan! Thank you for sharing this wonderful woman with the world, she always brought a smile to my face whenever I seen a video of her. thinking of all her family in this difficult time." Jess and Norma launched their channel during lockdown in 2020, and quickly amassed millions of followers thanks to their shared sense of humour and the pranks Jess would pull on her unsuspecting grandmother. ‌ The pair, who lived in Retford in Nottinghamshire, would film themselves giggling away, bickering and going out together on trips, especially as Norma's health declined and she needed a wheelchair to get around and her eyesight deteriorated. Fans loved their relationship, especially Norma's exasperation whenever Jess spent money on her, and many followers would tell the pair how much they reminded themselves of their own late grandparents. Norma's last photo shared on Facebook showed her in her wheelchair with Jess smiling down at her. Tragically, Norma's death comes just weeks after the loss of Jess's dad, who she paid tribute to on her Facebook page on May 19. "Some of you may have noticed things have been a little quieter over the past month. I'm heartbroken to tell you all that l lost my dad suddenly in April. It's been the most difficult thing I've ever had to navigate," she wrote. "My heart aches and the pain feels unbearable. I haven't really got the words. Jake has been my absolute rock and I've got amazing family and friends around me. Jake [Jess' partner] has been and will continue posting old footage and photos across our pages, whilst I take a little more time. Lots of love, Jess."

But they were late to a Towie cast get together recently, and their co-star Sophie Kasaei was quick to expose why. They sat in a bar playing a game where they passed their phone to each other and shared a playful sentence as to why they were passing the phone to that person. Jordan Brook passed the phone to the 'love of his life' Sophie, who then said she was passing the phone to: 'Someone who was late because they were making love.' Sophie then handed the phone to Matilda and Roman, who looked like they'd been caught red handed after Sophie's truth. They smiled at the camera, while Matilda cheekily placed her hand over her mouth. The pair debuted on the ITVBe reality show in February where they were first seen sitting in a glam eatery enjoying brunch before some co-stars walked in and greeted them. Speaking exclusively to The Sun ahead of their TV debut together, the couple spilled on their love for one another. In the chat, Roman revealed: "We have filmed our first scene together.
