Plainsman Park receives seating upgrade ahead of the Auburn baseball Super Regional
Plainsman Park receives seating upgrade ahead of the Auburn baseball Super Regional Auburn baseball is taking major steps in ensuring that this will be a historical weekend at Plainsman Park. "If you build it, (they) will come." The famous line (kind of) from the 1989 film Field of Dreams was played out during the Auburn Regional, as newly-renovated Plainsman Park experienced two broken attendance records during the Auburn Tigers' successful weekend. This weekend, Auburn baseball is maximizing its efforts to fit as many people into its home ball park as the Tigers prepare to host the first super regional in program history. Auburn Deputy Athletic Director Rhett Hobart shared a photo on X (Twitter) on Thursday from atop the Josh Donaldson hitting lab beyond the right field wall at Plainsman Park that included construction of seats that will be utilized during this weekend's Super Regional. Hobart says that the seating will be another "general admission" section of Plainsman Park, joining the Tiger Terrace, Plainsman Patio, and War Eagle Wall. Hobart hinted at the possible addition of seats following the Tigers' regional sweep of Central Connecticut, Stetson, and NC State in a tweet, to which Auburn outfielder Ike Irish responded "It would be cool to have seats up there." Hobart made sure to tag Irish in the updated tweet submitted on Thursday. Plainsman Park added over 3,000 seats ahead of the 2025 season, and every enhancement has been utilized to its full potential. A stadium record 7,434 people paid to watch Auburn defeat Stetson, 8-5, on Saturday night, and the addition of general admission seating could see crowds of over 8,000 people watch Auburn face Coastal Carolina in the Auburn Super Regional, which will create one of the most electric atmospheres of this weekend's action. Auburn begins its three-game, winner-take-all series with Coastal Carolina this Friday at 8 p.m. CT. The winner of this weekend's series secure's a spot in the College World Series. 2026 defensive end JR Hardrick commits to Clemson football, Dabo Swinney
CLEMSON — Clemson football and coach Dabo Swinney added their second defensive lineman in the 2026 recruiting class with the commitment of three-star JR Hardrick. The 6-foot-6, 231-pounder from South Pittsburg High in Tennessee is rated the No. 26 player in the state by the 247Sports Composite rankings. Hardrick chose Clemson over Virginia, Mississippi State and Louisville. He announced his commitment on X on June 5. Advertisement Hardrick helped South Pittsburgh to a 12-4 record last season. He joins three-star Kameron Cody as Clemson's two defensive lineman commitments. Hardrick is also the second player to commit to Clemson within the past two days, joining four-star offensive lineman Leo Delaney. Swinney's 2026 class is ranked No. 3 nationally, according to the 247Sports Composite rankings, and it has 12 four-star recruits and five three-stars commits. It is a complete change from last year's cycle that finished with 15 signees and ranked 26th nationally, which was Swinney's lowest-rated cycle since 2010 and his smallest class since 2017. Hardrick is the first recruit from Tennessee in the 2026 class to commit to the Tigers. He is also the fifth defensive player to commit to Clemson. Auburn, Coastal Carolina name game one starters for Super Regional
Auburn, Coastal Carolina name game one starters for Super Regional Who is up for an ace off? The Auburn Tigers will make history this weekend. Plainsman Park has never hosted a game this late in the season, and head coach Butch Thompson is looking to make a statement by throwing his ace pitcher in game one of the Tigers' Super Regional against Coastal Carolina. Thompson has named usual Friday night starter Sam Dutton the starting pitcher for Auburn's Super Regional opener against Coastal Carolina on Friday. The Auburn head coach said that his ace looked "fresh" in Saturday's regional win over Stetson, where he allowed five runs on seven hits in 6 2/3 innings on 15 days rest. Thompson feels that Dutton can carry the team into the late stages of the game. "I thought he got back to being able to sequence and do some things he did earlier. I don't think he had thrown over 70 innings first three years of college. I think once he got to that stage, he had done incredible work for us. It was almost a consistent five or six innings," Thompson said of Dutton. "I thought for a couple of starts he wasn't a fresh. I think it affected his command. I thought he freshened up and looked like himself last week. We're hoping that window that was created for him by not having to throw from Ole Miss and not in the SEC Tournament was enough to carry him through this start." Dutton will rival Coastal ace Cameron Flukey on Friday night. Flukey, a 6-6 right-hander, boasts a 3.12 ERA and a 7-1 record through 15 starts. He ranks in the top-five among Sun Belt Conference pitchers in strikeouts (102), innings pitched (86 2/3), ERA (3.12), wins (7), and opposing batting average (.209). He struck out nine batters and allowed three hits in seven complete innings of work in the Chanticleers 10-2 win over Fairfield in game one of the Conway Regional. The Tigers and Chanticleers will face off in game one of the Auburn Super Regional on Friday at 8 p.m. CT. Fans can watch the game live on ESPN 2.
