‘SNL 50' Becomes Most-Watched Season in Three Years, Hitting 8.1 Million Average Viewers After One Week
'Saturday Night Live' just came off of its most-watched season in three years.
Season 50 hit an average of 8.1 million viewers according to Live + 7 data from Nielsen, meaning that seven days of viewing per episode were accounted for. That marks an increase of 12% compared to Season 49, in addition to representing the highest average since Season 47, which aired from the fall of 2021 to the spring of 2022.

This season's average is especially impressive when considering that it does not account for the massive viewership of 'SNL50: The Anniversary Special,' which aired on Feb. 16 to 14.8 million viewers. That total increased to 22.8 million after 35 days of viewing across platforms, NBCUniversal reports.
Among adults ages 18-49, 'SNL' was the No. 1 broadcast series of the 2024-2025 season, excluding sports and news programming, and the No. 1 broadcast or cable comedy for the sixth season running.
Additionally, 'SNL' finds a significant portion of its audience on social media, where Season 50 and the anniversary special reached a total of 7.7 billion views according to NBCUniversal. The Oct. 12 episode, which was headlined by Ariana Grande and Stevie Nicks, was the most-watched on social with 712 million views. 'Domingo: Bridesmaid Speech,' which was part of Grande and Nicks' episode, was the most-watched sketch on social with 171 million views
'To see the show honor its legacy while still pushing boundaries was incredible. The strong ratings this season are a testament to how deeply 'SNL' continues to resonate with audiences,' said Katie Hockmeyer, executive vice president of late night at NBCUniversal Entertainment. 'After five decades, 'SNL' remains a powerful force in shaping culture and making us laugh week after week.'

Germans Are Buying More Electric Cars, but Not Teslas
Tesla sales in Germany dropped in May for the fifth month in a row, as demand for the electric vehicle maker continued to slide across much of Europe, despite Elon Musk's efforts to turn his focus away from his U.S. government activities and back to his companies. Registrations of new Tesla cars in Germany, Europe's largest car market, dropped more than a third compared with the same month last year, data released from the country's Federal Motor Transport Authority, K.B.A., showed on Tuesday. Tesla sales in other European countries have also remained depressed, falling more than 67 percent in France and 29 percent in Spain in May. Only Norway stood out as an exception, with Tesla selling 2,600 cars in May, more than triple the number sold in the same month last year. Sales were led by deliveries of Tesla's newly revamped version of its most popular vehicle, the Model Y. In neighboring Sweden, Volkswagen sold nearly twice as many of its latest electric model, the ID.7, as the new Model Y from Tesla, whose overall sales in the country dropped 53 percent. Mr. Musk has tried to downplay the extent of Tesla's losses in Europe, telling Bloomberg News in an interview at the Qatar Economic Forum that although it was the region where the brand faces its greatest challenges, 'The European car market is quite weak.' But data from European markets does not support that claim. In Germany, sales of battery-powered cars grew nearly 45 percent in May, compared with the year prior. In Spain, overall sales of electric cars grew 72 percent, while Tesla sales slid 19 percent. In Germany, demand for BYD, Tesla's main E.V. rival, rose ninefold, the strongest showing of an electric vehicle producer from China. The company, which overtook Tesla as the world's top seller of electric cars earlier this year, has been making inroads in Europe, despite facing tariffs of 17 percent imposed by the European Union in 2024. Although Mr. Musk has left his role at the White House, Tesla sales have been affected by his foray into politics. In April, the company reported that its vehicle sales fell 13 percent in the first quarter from a year earlier, as profit plunged to its lowest level in four years. The company has been hurt by protests against Mr. Musk's support for President Trump and several far-right parties in France, Germany and Italy.

US Amateur champion Jose Luis Ballester of Spain joins LIV Golf
Associated Press GAINESVILLE, Va. (AP) — U.S. Amateur champion Jose Luis Ballester of Spain has joined LIV Golf and will make his professional debut this week at the Saudi-funded league's Virginia event. Ballester, who goes by the nickname Josele, signed a multiyear contract, LIV said Wednesday, and will be part of the Fireballs team captained by fellow Spaniard Sergio Garcia. 'We are very excited about Josele joining the team,' Garcia said in a statement. 'Personally, I have known him since he could pick up a golf club and he has worked with my father as his coach throughout his golf career.' The 21-year-old Ballester recently concluded his senior season at Arizona State, the alma mater of LIV stars Jon Rahm and Phil Mickelson. He finished third in the PGA Tour University standings, earning him full status on the Korn Ferry Tour, but Golf Channel reported Monday that he declined membership on the PGA Tour's top developmental circuit. Although he missed the cut at the Masters in April, Ballester had a viral moment when he relieved himself in Rae's Creek on the par-5 13th hole. Ballester defeated Noah Kent 2 up in the 36-hole U.S. Amateur final at Hazeltine last August. Although he is turning professional, he keeps his spot in next week's U.S. Open at Oakmont as the reigning champion of the USGA's top amateur event. Ballester joins Abraham Ancer and Carlos Ortiz alongside Garcia on the Fireballs. David Puig, another Arizona State alum on Garcia's team, is currently sidelined with a back injury. ___ AP golf: recommended
