Katt Williams back in Memphis as part of broadcast team for FedExCup Playoffs event

Yahoo2 days ago
Comedian Katt Williams will be back in Memphis for the FedEx St. Jude Championship − only this time, he will be part of the PGA Tour Live broadcast team.
Williams will serve as an on-course correspondent during the first and second rounds (Aug. 7-8) of the tournament, the first event of the 2025 FedExCup Playoffs, at TPC Southwind.
"I'll be walking alongside the world's best players as part of the marquee group coverage live Thursday and Friday morning," the 53-year-old Williams said in a video posted by PGA Tour Live on its social media channels.
It won't be the first time Williams has ventured onto the course at TPC Southwind for the event. He was also on hand in 2024, but he kept a somewhat low profile. A three-minute video montage of the popular funnyman providing his insight, analysis and reverence for the game was subsequently published on the PGA Tour's website.
"This is why this is the No. 1 sport. It's the sport of gods, but it's played by mortals," the unabashed golf fan remarked at one point.
This time around, Williams will be part of the broadcast team, joining ESPN analyst Michael Collins to provide real-time coverage, commentary and, almost certainly, some comedy during the PGA Tour Live stream on ESPN+. The tournament will also air on Peacock.
It won't be Williams' first foray into sportscasting. In August 2024, he was part of the PGA Tour Live broadcast team during The Tour Championship.
Williams is no stranger to Memphis nor the Mid-South. He routinely performs in the area, most recently in Feburary 2025 at FedExForum as part of his Heaven On Earth tour.
At various points, Williams' regular presence in the region has fueled rumors that he actually maintains or maintained a residence of some kind in the Mid-South.

Scottie Scheffler Bends Club Rules to Share Golf Moment With Son Bennett

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. After a short break, Scottie Scheffler is back in full swing to tee off at the FedEx St. Jude Championship, the first leg of the PGA Tour's FedEx Cup playoffs. The world No. 1, fresh off his fourth career major win at The Open Championship, skipped both the Wyndham Championship and the 3M Open to recharge. But on Wednesday, he returned to action at TPC Southwind, kicking off the week with a playful Instagram post. "Pausing my acting career and getting back on the course. Excited for @fedexchamp week!" Scheffler posted, giving a cheeky nod to his cameo in Netflix's 'Happy Gilmore 2,' that earned him unexpected praise. While the cameras have followed him from fairways to film sets, Scheffler's most cherished moments came during a private celebration at home. (Photo by) More Getty Images Speaking to reporters ahead of Thursday's opening round at TPC Southwind, Scheffler revealed that he hosted a party two weeks ago in Dallas to celebrate his Open win. "We had a party two weeks ago at home with some of our friends, and everybody got to drink out of it (Claret Jug). It was a lot of fun." The celebration was memorable, but what followed excited Scheffler even more. "I brought it up to Royal Oaks a couple times, my home course," he added during the same conference. "One afternoon, I think Meredith was getting a haircut or something, and I was resting and so I had Bennett, and I took him to Royal Oaks. He whacked some golf balls around, and we hung out for a bit." The 29-year-old dad even bent the rules to sneak Bennett into the club's 19th hole grill. "I took him to the 19th hole with me, and I got some pretty funny pictures with Bennett sitting in the 19th hole at the men's only grill," he shared with the media during the Wednesday conference at TPC Southwind. "I think you've got to be 19 (years old) to get in there, but I figured if we bring in a couple major championship trophies with us, they'll let the rules slide on that one." This is not the first time Scheffler has shed light on his 1-year-old toddler's growing relationship with golf. During the pre-tournament conference at The Open Championship, the four-time major winner stated, "He's (Bennett) 14 months, and I'm like, this poor kid's got my personality. It's tough." While Bennett's swing is still in his infancy, Scheffler's own game is surging. The Dallas native enters the playoffs on Thursday with a stacked trophy room. His wins this season include the CJ Cup Byron Nelson, Memorial Tournament, PGA Championship and The Open, putting him just one U.S. Open title away from completing the career grand slam. He's already secured $18 million in bonuses for topping both the FedEx Cup regular-season standings and the Comcast Business Top 10. He's no doubt is eager to continue the momentum. Collin Morikawa Makes Yet Another Caddie Change Ahead of FedEx Cup Playoffs

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. Just months ago, Collin Morikawa made headlines after parting ways with longtime caddie J.J. Jakovac, the man on the bag for all six of Morikawa's PGA Tour wins, including two majors who helped him get to a peak world ranking of No. 2. Since then, the 28-year-old has worked with Joe Greiner, KK Limbhasut and Billy Foster. Foster was his most recent partner, as seen during The Open. (Photo by) Getty Images Now, the former PGA Championship winner is turning to Mark Urbanek, as seen during the pro-am before the FedEx St. Jude Championship. Urbanek, best known for his five-year run with Tony Finau, split with him ahead of The Open last month. Morikawa enters the playoffs ranked 19th in the FedExCup standings with 1,427 points, hoping to stabilize a season that's seen flashes of brilliance but little consistency. Apart from the caddie moves, Morikawa is also making changes in his sponsorship deal list. Collin Morikawa signs new sponsorship deal In addition to caddie change, Morikawa is also making big moves in his sponsorship list. The major winner signed on as the latest ambassador for 'Stanley 1913,' the PGA Tour's official insulated drinkware partner. The deal follows Nelly Korda's signing earlier this season, making Morikawa another high-profile golfer to join the brand's growing roster. "I think what drew me to 'Stanley 1913' is their wide range of products," Morikawa stated as reported by Golf Magic. "I travel so much and being on the road means needing options to adapt to my needs, and 'Stanley 1913' has that range." As part of the partnership, Morikawa will represent the brand at tournaments and in promotional campaigns. With the 2025 Ryder Cup looming at Bethpage Black next month, Morikawa's playoff performance could be pivotal. He currently sits eighth in the U.S. Ryder Cup standings with 9,743 points, just two spots out of the automatic qualification zone. Rank Player Points 1 Scottie Scheffler 32,420 2 Xander Schauffele 13,383 3 J.J.
