‘Lakhpati Didi' is about empowering rural women, instilling leadership quality: CM Mohan Charan Majhi
BHUBANESWAR: The 'Lakhpati Didi' mission under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi is aimed at empowering women financially and instilling leadership qualities in rural women, said Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Thursday.
Addressing the National Lakhpati Didi Conference 2025 at Lok Seva Bhawan here, the chief minister said it is not just a celebration of the achievements of the government but a testament to its commitment to women's leadership. 'The strength and determination of women shape the future of families and the nation,' he added.
Stating that the Lakhpati Didi Yojana is not just a welfare scheme but a strategy for inclusive and sustainable development, Majhi said the prime minister has taken several steps to ensure political, social and economic empowerment of women.
The Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam, which provides 33 per cent reservation of seats for women in the Parliament and state legislatures, is a significant step towards increasing women's representation in politics, the chief minister said.
'We have implemented the Lakhpati Didi mission with dedication. With nearly 17 lakh women being empowered as Lakhpati Didis, Odisha has secured the top position in India. This success is a result of the dedication of our women members of the self-help groups, the Mission Shakti team and the Odisha Livelihood Mission's tireless efforts and efficient work at the grassroots-level,' he added.
Majhi further said that all women SHG members in the state have access to interest-free loans of up to `10 lakh. The revolving fund assistance has been increased from `15,000 to `30,000 and the community investment fund has been enhanced from `35 lakh to `60 lakh. 'This has enabled SHG members to confidently grow their businesses and livelihoods,' he added.

"If we don't take care of this planet, there is nowhere else to go." Garneau said that, after flying in space, life was "not as intimidating." "It gave me a sense of confidence and it gave me confidence to move forward in life instead of playing it safe," he said. Garneau was born in Quebec City and earned a bachelor of science degree in engineering physics at the Royal Military College in Kingston, Ontario. There are a number of schools named after him in Canada. Garneau lived in the U.S. for nine years and two of his children were born there.

CM Siddaramaiah on Bengaluru stampede: ‘50-60 people died in Kumbh Mela, did Karnataka govt criticise?'
Following the stampede near the Chinnaswamy stadium in Bengaluru on Wednesday, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said that he would not justify the mishap by drawing comparisons with similar tragedies elsewhere, like in Kumbh Mela. Speaking to the media, Siddaramaiah said that he did not criticise when several people lost their lives in a stampede at the Mahakumbh. "Such incidents happened in so many places. I am not going to defend this by comparing it with them now by saying it happened here and there. In Kumbh Mela, 50-60 people died, I didn't criticise it," he said. "If Congress criticises, then that is a different matter. Did I or the Karnataka government criticise?" CM Siddaramaiah said. Addressing a press conference, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said that the government will also provide free treatment to the injured. "A major tragedy occurred during the victory celebrations. It happened near the Chinnaswamy Stadium. The government has announced a compensation of ₹ 10 lakh for the deceased. The government will provide free treatment to the injured," the CM said. No scope for separate position: Government
NEW DELHI: Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju on Wednesday said that the government is committed to take all political parties on board in moving an impeachment motion against Justice Yashwant Varma, saying corruption in the judiciary cannot be approached through a 'political prism'. He said the government wants the exercise aimed at axing Justice Varma, embroiled in a case of alleged corruption and indicted by a Supreme Court-appointed committee, a 'collaborative effort'. Rijiju said that he has already initiated discussions with all political parties to bring the motion in Parliament's Monsoon session, starting from July 21, against the Allahabad High Court judge. He said the government wants all parties to 'jointly' move the motion to remove Justice Varma. Rijiju said he will reach out to smaller parties, while all major parties have already been informed about the plan to bring a motion of impeachment against Justice Varma. 'The government feels that the matter related to corruption is not one political party's agenda. It is a stand of all parties to fight against the menace of corruption, whether it is the judiciary or any other space,' he said. He said most parties will revert after discussing the issue internally. To a query, Rijiju said the decision on whether the motion will be brought in the Lok Sabha or the Rajya Sabha will be taken based on the business of each House. According to the Judges (Inquiry) Act of 1968, once a motion to remove a judge is admitted in any of the Houses, the speaker or the chairman, as the case may be, will constitute a three-member committee to investigate the grounds on which the removal (or, in popular term, impeachment) has been sought.
