Larne ace on why he's eager to make up for lost time by helping Invermen hit League Phase jackpot again

Ryan Nolan is keen to make up for lost time when it comes to realising his European dream.
The well-travelled defender arrived at Larne in September 2024, but international clearance didn't come through in time for him to be part of the squad that took part in the club's historic UEFA Conference League campaign.

BBC Destination X viewers call out 'fake' blunder minutes into show

Destination X kicked off on Wednesday night with Rob Brydon as the host, however, not all viewers were impressed with the first episode of the BBC reality show. BBC viewers were united in their reaction on Wednesday evening as Rob Brydon's fresh series Destination X made its debut. ‌ The new reality competition show has 13 contestants embarking on an epic European adventure, but there's a twist – not everything is as straightforward as it appears. ‌ Aboard the mysterious X-bus with its blacked-out windows, the participants' only task is to deduce their location on the continent by deciphering a trail of clues. ‌ Each episode culminates with the contestants marking an X on a map; the one whose guess is furthest from their true location faces elimination. Yet, as the programme began, it seemed that the initial scenes, featuring hopefuls at an airport ready for their enigmatic journey, didn't quite win over all the viewers, reports Wales Online. One viewer expressed disinterest: "No, can't be bothered with this. They all seem annoying." ‌ Another was sceptical, posting: "Blatantly a fake airport lounge #DestinationX". A third shared their disbelief, commenting: "Straight away I call shenanigans. No way British people will talk so quickly to strangers in an airport lounge. #DestinationX" One unimpressed comment read: "#DestinationX is a bit s**t so far." However, some viewers were instantly captivated by the show, with one saying: "Giving #DestinationX ago enjoying it so far." ‌ Another added praise for the host: "Rob Brydon steals the show in everything he's in. Love him #DestinationX" Throughout the programme, participants were whisked away by helicopter whilst sporting distinctive goggles that obscured their view from the aircraft windows. ‌ Nevertheless, there were brief instances when the eyewear permitted glimpses of the outside world, offering contestants fleeting opportunities to work out their destination. All they could make out were rolling fields and rural landscapes, with some speculating whether they'd been deceived and simply flown in circles back to where they started. In an ingenious move, audiences at home were also invited to participate as the programme deliberately withheld the contestants' actual location, encouraging viewers to make their own educated guesses. ‌ Fans would need to remain patient until the episode's conclusion to learn whether their predictions had hit the mark. In a brutal development, three participants faced immediate removal from the contest before even departing the airport, as Rob set them a challenge to locate items bearing specific names with limited tickets up for grabs. ‌ Those who failed to secure the required names found themselves heading home empty-handed, losing their shot at the £100,000 prize. Discussing the fresh format, presenter Rob Brydon revealed: "I've never done a TV show on this scale before. I loved the idea of it, the combination of having to work out clues as to where you are and having to get on with each other. "It struck me as the best bits of The Traitors with the best bits of Race Across the World."

Rangers secure draw in Athens to keep Champions League dream alive

Rangers have produced a backs-to-the-wall performance in Athens to draw with Panathinaikos and keep their Champions League dream alive. Russell Martin's side left the Greek capital with a 1-1 result that secured a 3-1 aggregate win and booked their place in the third-round qualifiers. They have now guaranteed European league phase football this season and are just two ties away from reaching the continent's top competition for the first time since 2022. Despite taking a two-goal lead into the game, it wasn't all plain sailing for the visitors who had to survive more than a few nervy moments, particularly in the first half. It looked as though qualification would be a tall order when Filip Duricic opened the scoring for Panathinaikos early in the second half to put the home side 1-0 up on the night. But, just as he did last week, Djeidi Gassama came off the bench to score a vital equaliser that restored a two-goal aggregate lead. Rangers had to withstand some early pressure as the hosts looked to get themselves back into the tie with a string of attacks. Tasos Bakasetas fired just wide of the post within the first five minutes before Facundo Pellistri forced a crucial save from Jack Butland. The Rangers goalkeeper was forced into action again soon after when he turned a close-range header from Fotis Ioannidis behind for a corner. Panathinaikos continued to dominate possession, and Pellistri should have scored midway through the first half when Duricic took advantage of some slack defending to cut the ball across the box to the Uruguayan forward, but he failed to get his shot on target. Rangers were living dangerously at this stage as they struggled to keep hold of the ball or get out of their own half. Nico Raskin came close to grabbing a vital away goal against the run of play towards the end of the first 45 when he headed a Joe Rothwell cross over the bar. The game remained goalless at the break as Rangers took their two goal aggregate lead into the second-half. The home side broke the deadlock just ten minutes after the restart when Duricic headed past Butland to make it 1-0 on the night and reduce the deficit. The goal was initially ruled out for offside, but awarded after a lengthy VAR check found the Serbian to be onside. However, Rangers restored their two-goal lead almost instantly when Gassama fired a volley past the Panathinaikos goalkeeper with his first touch after coming off the bench to make 1-1 and 3-1 on aggregate just before the hour mark. Eberechi Eze's two transfer clauses shed more light on Arsenal transfer issue

Arsenal have put Crystal Palace and England star Eberechi Eze at the top of their shopping list after sealing a deal for Viktor Gyokeres but there are a number of roadblocks to a deal An agreement with Eberechi Eze 's former club has caused another headache for Arsenal as Mikel Arteta continues to chase the England international. The Gunners want the Crystal Palace star as their next big-money addition of the summer transfer window. ‌ He is seen as the perfect candidate to further bolster their wide options following the lucrative arrivals of Viktor Gyokeres and Noni Madueke. A deal could be seen as relatively straight forward, given the presence of a £67.5m release clause in his Crystal Palace deal. ‌ And while Arsenal would need to get the funds together to pay that fee - with The Guardian reporting that the Eagles want the vast majority of that amount paid up front - there is a further caveat due to a second clause in Eze's deal. ‌ Eze's former club Queens Park Rangers retain a 15 percent sell-on clause. That would entitle the London side to 15 percent of any profit that Palace make on Eze, which given they signed him for just under £20m, could land QPR just under £7.5m should a move to the Emirates go through. Eze has two years remaining on his contract with Palace. Eagles boss Oliver Glasner has already spoken out on any potential sales - and has urged the club hierarchy to remain firm over Palace's key players ahead of a European campaign. "Even though all the players are still here, we haven't made the most of the transfer window so far," Glasner admitted. "I was promised that we would be more active and bring in the new players earlier this year. "As of now, I have 17 outfield players. I hope we don't lose any more. If that happens and we get four new ones on deadline day like last year, another false start is possible." Meanwhile, Palace chairman Steve Parish last year claimed he was shocked that the club were able to keep Eze. He said: "I was really worried from a club point of view of losing Michael [Olise] and Ebbs in the same window and we didn't have in Ebbs the interest that I thought we would have. ‌ "I was astounded. Genuinely astounded. I mean, the guy's just an outstanding footballer, an outstanding person." Away from Eze, Palace are also fielding interest in star defender Marc Guehi, who Liverpool admire. But as it stands, the Reds are focusing on attempting to seal a deal for Newcastle striker Alexander Isak.
